I do not understand why consumer disallowed Oppo to have a different pricing in a show? It is very normal to have some form of discount during show no matter which shop or which brand. They are the one who rented the booth and have to pay money for it, I personally feel it is normal for them to give discount to sell their goods in volume so that they can recoup back the amount of rental, setup fee for the booth.

It is free trade here in SG, it is SLT business, why should we restrict them how to operate their business? No offence to anyone I am just finding it weird. If given to me there is no discount in the show to attract me to buy, they might lose one customer (or many customer) due to that during the show. I might or might not buy from them in the future, it might end up they could/could not cover their loss in show.

I think it's the socialist mentality.

No one wants to be on the losing end, and find out they paid more.

Even for Black Friday sales, some will find that the BR they bought earlier is now a lot cheaper. But that's life and why we have sales.

In the same vein, some will pay less because they made a decision, eg the 101 MO, and others will pay more later on when they decide it's time for them to commit.

The early birds may find they need some firmware updates, or lack region free mods, but in return they get a discount. I think that's how the free market works.

Cheers

I feel the need to reiterate Al's comments about firmware updates. My experience with Panasonic is that you can say goodbye to firmware updates after 12 months, leaving the player unable to play newer discs. Whereas Oppo has issued firmware updates for years after releasing their players (I've got an 83 and a 95 both going strong).

I have to say that any component is limited to the spec on the hardware.  Oppo has introduced a lot of new features on the 105, but cannot go to the capability of the USB of the 105D.

With the 105 that I've had for all this time, they have gone through mega versions of firmware and upgrades on apps for phones and tablet.  Every version didn't just bring to the user improvements but absolute disastrous issues where even the latest apps would crash the phone or tablet and them be told:   "Yes,  we are experiencing numerous issues with this app, please wait for the next version" that can take weeks or months.  Every firmware had its own issues, it was like they make a correction but in doing so cause numerous other issues.  The updates in firmware and apps got to such a stage that made me think that they never tested any of the releases!  They would make the corrections issued the new version on there website and wait for the feedback from the public!   There was one stage they were issuing a version every week or fortnight!  Then it got to the stage where I just waited for a few months before I go updating, and with the apps for the tablets and phones I use to wait till the OS can no longer support the previous version.

Thst said the support you get when you use there feedback tab is 2nd to none!  I discovered that the freezing issue I had with the 105 that made it non responsive was the supplied wifi dongle.  International Dynamics was going to charge $xx/hrs if they can't find this intermittent fault, however emailing on the feedback on the OPPO app  you will get a reply within hours,  after a few exchange of emails, which is basically that they wanted more info, they decided to send a new dongle free of charge and no proof of purchase required, all the way from Oppo HQ in Silicon Valley, how good is that!

oh yeah bypass the local jokers if can. oppo direct have always been superb support wise.

as a note I found cambridge even better though . with better local distributor with synergy and literally overnight firmware updates.

I think overall this relates to the mediatek chip set used.

for reasons of usability and its interface I wouldnt for one suggest anyone use the thing as a media player utilising the app and such. there are SO many better possibly cheaper options these days. something we have discussed previously in this thread. not sure something oppo is in any rush to do anything about and dont expect any improvements in this regard with this product release.

The other thing worth a mention is that you can't just update the FW from the official oppo site if the unit was purchased here in Aust via the retailer/distributor International Dynamics.  If a new version of FW becomes available on the OPPO site, you have to wait for the ID site to be up to date and that can take a months and when you finally complain to International Dynamic about the delay they give you attitude and excuses.  Nice!

Maybe so, but with the stability of the latest FW they seem to finally got it right!  And as far as I'm concern and being old fashion I have no real need to change, the OPPO interface is good enough as a music server where I don't have to load a disc....ironic and silly really, I don't even use the bluray capability, only 2 channel!  Ons tablet or phone I can dial up any tune on a USB HDD where all my music is ripped to!  I use a cheap Sony s480 for bluray duties in another room.

Wish I could say all my freezing issues were gone with my 105D. I seem to be turning off the player a lot to combat this problem. I tend to find that when I try and use a combination of the phone app and the remote is when it happens most. I am only using the phone app because Oppo has such a crappy player interface. The phone one is much better but has problems, so stuck between a rock and a hard place.

What a surprise or should I say shock to hear all above issues with Oppo devices. I almost bought a 105D but I am sooo glad now that I didn't. I don't think customer support being good matters that much if the product is so sh***ty.

I actually got the chance to see a 105D in flesh last week and can say that was not impressed at all, front panel looked so plasticy and flimsy it just felt/looked like an ordinary $50 blueray player you would get from JB HIFI.

@ufoWhen you find the a multi media machine that does it better than an Oppo for the price...please share...

There is a reason they they sell shirtloads all around the world & other companies use part or most of the innards for their own machines...

I am not into bashing any brand and/or model but couldn't stop myself from responding in such way after reading the issues people had with Oppo products.

When relatively new, wasn't 105 pushing $2000 mark? For that money you can get a very decent CD/SACD player and a separate decent BD player and have none of the problems you had with Oppo.

Why does it have to be a single box solution, of course personal preferences play a huge role in that. But if a solution/choice is so problematic why insist sticking to it?

I suggest you re-read this thread...

The "issues" are performance enhancing "wish list/s"...not core machine issues that manages to include the top performing parts in all critical areas...

I had a 93 and had zero problems. People are complaining about issues with the mobile app, not the machine. That said it was a pretty clunky media streamer, and I went a different direction as at that time they did not support ALAC, once the local distributor started up I don't think I got another firmware update, as mine was a direct import.

I'm seriously considering the 203 as I bet it will have more user customisable features than the Sammy. I have a pretty $$$ 4k processor and a even more $$$$ 4k projector and I'm forced to let the budget Samsung player do the scaling, as it does not have a auto or passthrough setting for resolution.

Agree just because the GUI is ordinary and firmware has the occasional glitch it no way suggests the hardware isn't top shelf and reliable. In fact it is the faultless performance is why I got the 105D to replace the 83SE.

Have to disagree with you on this one, as I have the 105D and the fit and finish is way better than any of the cheap DVD players I have bought ranging up to several hundred dollars. Paid about $1500 for a Toshiba about 15 years ago that was probably a nicer finish but not much else cheaper looks as well made as the Oppo.

The curved look is subjective as anyone can make a square box, I think I prefer the look of the 105 to the new 203.

have owned two blu-ray players wiht better build quality a denon 4010 universal player rrp was circa about $3k or something. and the sony 5000es that was a blu-ray only player. it had a rrp of $2,299. denon make nothing right now id buy as a universal player. sony make truly rubbish box mover sh!te only these days. the cambridge players are also in my opinion better built than the oppos but not by much.

one of the problems is oppo players have seriously spiralled up in price, the oppo 95 with pro mod was a $1200 thing ...now days the 105 is  $2200 device.

fortunately I dont need the analog stage of the 105 or for the 205 so will be quite happy wiht the base model I think.

re media players please dont buy the oppos for that ... SO many better cheaper options... all with lovely very useable interfaces and gui.

But I bet you haven't seen too many $50 players with a better finish than an Oppo like ufo was suggesting.

Most $50 bluray players only comes with Single HDMI port.  None weight 7.9kg, have RCA, XLR, spdif, optical out, have 3 USB 2.0 ports, a toroidal transformer, 2 ESS Sabre 9018, 7.1 channel analog out, and a very useful headphone jack!
