~Spyne~
UB900 now $598 at JB HiFi. Good Guys will match it/beat it by 10%, or just buy it at Good Guys then fill in a "30 Day Price Guarantee" form to get 120% rebate on the difference.
~Spyne~
I'm tempted to get one myseld, but my Sammy plasma is still going strong and obviously only 1080p. I figure by the time we're ready for a new TV there will be slight improvements (speed, add-on services, etc) to newer UDH players. Not to mention more competition so hopefully lower prices. betty boop
also have read that its some how connected to HDR 10 mentioned on avs I read, apparently "an option many asked for a long time : the possibility to display UHD movies in 10 bits instead of 12 bits. This is supposed to help those who have color banding."

Thanks Al ; have been hanging out for HEVC file support as was mentioned ages ago at AVforum was coming ; and they have come good with it now all I need is for it to read dolby digital plus files ; plain dolby digital are fine ; this player has saved me buying a new HEVC media player Quote Set the brightness of the entire screen when outputting HDR (High Dynamic Range) video to a connected HDR-compatible TV. Quote HEVC MKV/TS file playback support (Information) HDR picture adjustment support (Information) Network service compatibility Playability of Blu-ray Disc™ and DVD Disc http://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/bd/download/ub900/information_PAL_eng.pdf edit vvvv ; good news that Al ; a few mentions of its 4:4:4 ''upscaling" previously for compatibility Edited April 13, 2017 by cwt
betty boop
also to do with hdr10 it seems cwt. now dont have to chroma uopsample which can cause banding
betty boop
I notice the Auto(10bit Priority) option and with explanation between both this is very smart in my opinion as I know the oppo was having banding issues on auto and because of the chroma upsampling. this pana option still gives an auto option but can allow pegging to 12 or 10 bit which his native for UHD

Thanks Al, I also received an additional 5% off offer via email which brings it down to $188.10, but have decided it is not something I need, although very tempting. I realise this is for DVD only and not Blu-Ray, but as anyone tried out one of these remotes? It would be handy for my US dvd's http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/110602620681?_mwBanner=1 I decided to buy one since I have 3x Panasonic Blu-ray PVR's and player. All are listed as compatible. duke
I wish they would release some firmware that lets you play MKV files that are Bluray rips with sound. I have to use my Oppo or TV to play them so they get sound.

Exasperating Duke ; ages since I used makemkv [ and Ive got too many m2ts files to convert ] but maybe try makemkv for your DRM free files ; http://www.makemkv.com/ Just transcode any lossless audio codec to ''lossless"' FLAC and the new firmware should read it as its listed . If not AAC and straight uncompressed lpcm is also ok (Compression methods Video: H.264/ HEVC Audio: AAC, PCM, Vorbis, FLAC)

Spearmint
Picked up Deepwater Horizon, and Passengers today through the online sale yesterday. Both played fine via the AVR to the TV, so I guess there are no issues with handshakes etc for UHD material. It was nice to finally try a 4K disc out.

The Oppo 103 will not be needed if you add it Can this be type of player be connected to the Oppo 103 and be played through that. Currently collecting some 4k discs for the better sound. Regards 4k disc will not give you better sound, unless you have an ATMOS system as most disc have this encode where Bluray is more select. You will (should) see a better picture if you have a 4k display. The Pana has dual HDMI outs also so you can split the audio and picture sending the video direct to the display if you AVR is not at 4k pass thru spec (but it appears it may be as per other replies). Best to do this anyway IMHO. Edited April 17, 2017 by Jutta
