As some of you know the Australian Audio & Av Show is on again in a month or so - Friday October 17 - Sunday October 19.

http://www.chestergroup.org/australianaudioandavshow/2014/tickets

Yorac and I intend to catch up at the Show and grab a meal Saturday night over at at Jimbo and Rex at Crown Casino: http://www.crownmelbourne.com.au/jimbo-and-rex

The show closes at 6PM, so we might have a couple of drinks in the bar at the Rialto around then, then head over to Crown by foot sometime after then.

If anyone is planning to go to the show and or interested in catching up over a beer or dinner let us know and we will keep an eye out for you (to pay the bill LOL!).

I don't think it costs so much, considering you get to see a bunch of interesting stuff you may not otherwise.

All in the same place @ the same time.

Sound quality in hotel rooms aside, you get an idea of what you may or may not like.

1 Day Pass
Online discount ticket: $21.00 +$2.40 Booking Fee.*

2 Day Pass
Online discount ticket: $32.00* + $2.82 Booking Fee*

3 Day Pass
Online discount ticket: $42.00 + $3.14 Booking Fee*

- Children under 16 are free when accompanied with a paying adult.

I just find it harsh that consumers have to pay so much to get a demo of items that companies want to sell to us.

Hey mate, nice to see you about again, will definitely feedback but hard to expect too much for gear set up in hotel rooms.

They used to tag this onto the Home show here but stopped sometime ago............

Hey Yorac how are you? They set them up in hotel rooms? I was imagining like a big convection centre with stalls setup of different brands.

I'm curious to read members thoughts regarding atmos and other upcoming brands.

A seek preview of the Naim site at the show (same room as last year) will be what could well be the amp system of the decade. Called the Statement this is a giant killer in more ways than one with absolutely no costs spared. Built from the ground up this new amp combo can deliver 1 HP of grunt to a speaker, now that a new measurement in amp power for sure. Near enough to 746 watts from one monobloc designed from the ground up. Each Monobloc has got 24 hand built transistors, each one costing around 300 British pounds, yep, that's one way to make sure your getting matched Transistors all from the same sheet of silicone too. Now when you go to pick it up you'd better have been eating your Weeties cos it weighs in at a hefty 110 kg's or so each coupled to this is a new Naim pre-amplifier. a full set of styled beautiful noise machines will set you back over $230,000 and total weight up around 400 kg's,, how's your floor standing up to that thought?

This product is due for release next Monday so que up now, 3 have been sold already here, only 22 in existence ATM. I'm told one bloke up north brought two sets, seems he wanted to bi- wire his speakers, wonder what speakers he's got?

They can't be that good their only about 7% of the cost for a pair even though they say they're giving 30% more power..... hehe.... Oh and less weight too

Mmm ; no hernia guarantee - pass :hyper:

Hello guys,

would like to hear any comments from people who attended the show. I went on Sat around 2.00 p.m. Initial impressions were quite muted on the HT side. This year's show was very heavily geared towards 2Ch. Head-fi was quite prominent too.

A few personal thoughts on HT items. The Epson laser projector (LS 10000) demo was impressive. Its a MASSIVE unit indeed! PQ was very impressive using 4K material, though its not a native 4K pj. 1080p was good too but the screen they used to demo it was pretty small so couldn't really make a definitive judgement. The Epson rep said that the contrast level on this PJ is 'infinite', I dont know if this is true but maybe Owen can add some commentary to this, since he knows the technical aspect of contrast control pretty well. There were some BenQ's set up and as usual they threw some nice pictures but contrast could be better. The room didnt help obviously. tbh i was quite disappointed in the quality of HT representation...

2Ch was quite impressive. There were some crazy systems on display but a few stood out. The sonus faber Aida + McIntosh stack was truly impressive. SQ was stupendous! Add to that the sheer beauty/workmanship of the equipment and lets just say i was drooling..

Other standouts were the Brodmann JB205 & spiral groove TT (well that entire vinyl set up by telos audio), the B&W Maserati bookshelves, The Devialet combo and the Kyron audio setup.

The head-fi section was actually very impressive! There were some fantastic pairings and was mighty impressed. Ended up buying a DAP (Fiio X5, was on special) just because it sounded so good! Was very impressed by the Oppo PM2 + HA-1 combo (liked it more than the PM-1 for some reason).

Overall the venue was good but they should've done a bit more around navigation. Hope next year would have more HT gear on display though....

I just happened to be in Melbourne and in the area on saturday so I popped in.

I was pretty disappointed by the lack of HT stuff. I did check out the Epson projector's 5 minute demo but ambient light killed any chance of observing the high (and somewhat exaggerated) contrast ratio in action.

Pretty much spent the rest of the day apologizing to my mate who I convinced to shell out 28 bucks (!!!!) to accompany me.

I reckon it was better in the old days when it was tacked on to the Home Show. Seem to recall it was mainly HT back then and it was easier to get the missus to attend as she thought we were going to check out new bathrooms and kitchens :)

The AV/HiFi show was pathetic. Took me 3 hours to drive there and only 1 hour max to check it all out.

SONY - whats the use of having your $25,000 flagship projector and your $15,000 model sitting on a bloody table covered in dust instead of having one of them in action to show us what they are capable of?

That will be the last time i waste 6 hours of travel time for 1 hour of disappointment. :hmm:

Thanks for your thoughts on the epson 10000 mmu ; the 'infinite' contrast ratio is only because it doesnt use a mechanical iris like the rest but 'dynamic laser dimming' that can turn the lasers off completely. You need a few pixels of light though to get an idea though of any contrast with real life material . From what I read the contrast is very good nevertheless :)

Epson’s approach of using DLD makes getting meaningful measurements of on-off contrast ratio impossible with the traditional approach used for making such measurements. Normally the tester would display at 100% white test image and measure the projector’s light output, then display a second image that is 100% black and measure that light level. This works since even with a 100% black input. a traditional projector will projector a dark grey image. The very best lamp-based projectors produce an image that is very dark, but never totally black. However, the LS10000 turns the laser full off when given a 100% black image and this is the basis of infinite contrast ratio claim
Did they give any idea of rrp or maybe one for the non e-shift cheaper model ?
