Sydney Audio Club - 18Th Nov - Deep Hertz Presenting

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

For anyone interested, your welcome to join us.

The November 2012 meeting of the Sydney Audio Club sees us once again at Dence Park for an afternoon of fine music and sound and convivial company.

Each month, the Sydney Audio Club presents the finest in high end audio systems for our members and guests. It's a bit like a private audio show once a month where you can hear and discuss equipment that you might not otherwise have the chance to audition. And you can bring along your own music to test the capabilities of the system or to just share with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Our guest presenter this month will be Peter Thompson of Deep Hertz Audio (http://www.deephzaudio.com/index.html). Peter will be presenting a variety of equipment from: SVSound (an Ohio based speaker manufacturer), Wyred 4 Sound, Spread Spectrum Technologies, VMPS speakers and WyWires. Please refer to the Deep Hertz Audio web for information about all their products lines.

Peter will be bringing 3 systems – the first two systems will be presented during the first session and the third during our break.

Our first system will be the Australian debut of the all new Wyred 4 Sound mPRE preamp and mAMP monoblocks plus other Wyred 4 Sound products and VMPS speakers. Here is some detail:

Wyred 4 Sound mPRE pre-amplifier:

- Fully-balanced, dual-mono design

- Three analog inputs

- Balanced input/output

- 24/192kHz DAC/USB

- Headphone amp

- Defeatable HT bypass

- Remote Control

Wyred 4 Sound mAMP monoblocks:

- 250 watts into 8 ohms

- Full-balanced, discrete FET input buffer

- High efficiency, compact design

- XLR/RCA inputs

- 12V DC trigger

Wyred 4 Sound MS2 Music Server

Wyred 4 Sound DAC-2

VMPS QSO 626R Large Bookshelf Speakers, featuring FST tweeter, Neo Ribbon mid and 6" bass driver.

SVSound will supply the bottom end with the debut of the all new SB13-Ultra sealed subwoofer:

- 13.5" Ultra Driver

- 1000 watt RMS (3600 watt peak)

- 20-460 Hz +/- 3dB

Our second system will highlight the Spread Spectrum Technology (SST) electronics designed by James Bongiorno:

- Ambrosia Pre-amplifier

- Ampzilla 2000 monoblocks

These amps will feed the VMPS QSO 626R and SB13-Ultra mentioned in the first system.

Our third system will be a smaller system. Here is some detail:

Wyred 4 Sound mINT:

- Two analog Inputs

- HT Bypass

- Aux Out (Preamp output) to incorporate a Power Subwoofer

- Fixed Out to send signal to a recording device or feed a signal to a second system

- ESS DAC S/PDIF inputs will support 24 bit 192kHz resolution files

- USB interface will support 24 bit 96kHz resolution files

SVSound Ultra Bookshelf Speakers are to debut at this event also. These are still in transit to Australia – should they not arrive then the speakers will be the outgoing M-Series bookshelf.

Bottom end to be supplied by the SVSound SB12-NSD subwoofer pair.

- 12" NSD woofer

- Front firing sealed design

All cables will be from WyWires.

As is usual for our last meeting in the calendar year, both music sessions will be BYO after Peter’s demonstration session. Sources will be all digital this month, sorry no vinyl. We will also have an Oppo BDP-95 player (provided by a member) for playing the music of attendees. Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all. So bring along your favourite music on CD/SACD, DVD-A and BluRay. All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting. We'll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played. Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go.

Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others of a similar mind.

Members and Guests welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don't need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of fine music and sound. We will welcome you at the door.

Venue: Epping Creative Centre

Address: 26 Stanley St, Epping

Doors open 1pm

Meeting starts at 2pm

In closing, I’d like to mention that the Wyred 4 Sound mPRE and mAMP are still in proto-type and Peter is having them flown to Australia from California specifically for our club meeting. As well, Peter is based in Melbourne and he’s making the trip up to Sydney specifically for our club meeting. Such dedication and effort is most certainly appreciated! Thank you Peter.

Best regards,

Tom Waters

I'm the original owner bought from Peter Thompson at Deep Hz Audio. You will need to speak to Peter whether this MS2 unit is comparable to the latest units as far as upgrading to SSD and 32bit audio if you wish to do so. This unit has a 2TB HDD (with about 1.3TB worth of music in Flac files) and 2GB memory. Music buffers into the memory before playback so no music plays directly from the hard drive, eliminating any lag/jitter issues. Rips CDs to internal HDD or simply transfer files over your network from another source. Comes with the original standard power pack.

A beast of a power supply. This took the sound quality of the MS2 to a much greater level of detail and openness with a blacker background. Honestly, the W4S MS2 with this LPS unit has a similar sound to my Antipodes DX2.

Item: Wyred 4 Sound DAC-1 with femto clock upgrade
      Location: Sth Gold Coast
Price: $900 (probably be able to incl. freight to eastern metro areas)
      Item Condition: Near mint
Reason for selling: Going to have a change.
Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal (+ any fees), COD Only
Extra Info:  DAC was purchased new from Deep Hz Audio about 12 months old with Femto clock upgrade which cost an additional $300. I decided on the DAC-1 with upgrade over the DAC-2 as I didn't need the pre-amp or other features and by all accounts SQ is pretty close between the two. The USB on this unit is limited to 24/96 but goes higher over coaxial (and toslink I assume). Non-DSD version too.
I've really enjoyed this DAC but thought I would have a change.
Here is an old review of the DAC-1. There is more info out there on the DAC-2 which does have  I2S and AES/EBU and  Wyred 4 Sound Low ESR super-caps however the DAC-2 info will give you a good idea of performance.
Here is the W4S link including features and specification. This is for the current V2 model although the features list seems identical other than higher resolution over USB.

      Pictures:
Normally I would try and provide better pics for this type of sale but not in a position to pull DAC out at the moment. Happy to provide more pics to serious buyer but I know the unit is in excellent condition.

      Hi folks,

After just reading that the local price for the Wyred 4 sound remedy reclocker has gone up from $430 to $550  I'm thinking there might be plenty of other fish in the sea that do the same thing. It would be appreciated if anyone can suggest similar devices and their experience, comparison or opinion of them.

I can start with my own experience. I own an old Audio Alchemy DTI Pro32 reclocker and I recently connected the coax from my pc to this and then to a nad m51. It was an obvious and decent improvement in sound quality. I'm thinking another reclocker like the remedy or Audio gd  would be useful. The Audio gd has usb input as well as spdif where as the W4S only has spdif.

      Thanks in advance,

      L11
