sharkablue
I have not seen any threads for these new TV's yet. So here we go! For any current users or future users of the Samsung D7000 and D8000 TV's, post up what you were able to get the TV for and where from so you can share the love around! And if anyone actually knows what the difference between the 2 TV's actually is for Australian stock that would great!

T800
Am I correct in saying if I have a light controlled room, and I don't need any of the smart TV features, (I have a computer and PS3/PlayTv for all those other things) .then I wouldn't notice a huge difference between these 2 in terms of PQ, judging by the specs? PS64D8000 - 64" plasma - $4299 PS64D550 - 64" plasma - $2999
Owen
With light control I expect the differences to be very small.

Unless they really went out of their way to calibrate the D550 s#@t house to make the D8000 look much superior (quite possible), under the overhead lights the D550 looked washed out (blacks and all colour wise) and looked a considerably less alive picture. Where as the D8000 kept great deep blacks and colours even from a side angle with the overhead lights but also had a lot crisper punchy image. Like having the light output of an LED only with the natural colours and great motion qualities of a plasma. If you can't tell I was pretty impressed by the D8000. Am checking out the D6900 tomorrow to compare also. From what I read in the states the 6, 7 and 8 series all have the same panel or processor can't remember. But the 5 and 4 series are supposed to be inferior. Check em out at JB Hi Fi or harvey norman for yourself. Hope this helps

Tiles
Good price, Was there much haggling required?Hmm interesting, did you get to compare with the D6900 yet? yea compared the D6900 and D8000 at JB but not side by side. The D6900 was above eye level and the D8000 was sort of waist level. The D6900 to me under those lights looked the much inferior picture. Blacks were no where near as good and colours were abit funny, washed out a little but more of a real orangey yellow colour which even after messing with the pic settings and even trying standard colour I couldn't get a good colour tone (I have my samsung C7000 at home set to Warm2).The D8000 on the other hand was probably the best plasma I saw in the store. The Real Black Filter really did it's job as you could really see the picture dimming as you stood over the tv and then when I crouched down to watch at eye level it was unreal. It really cuts down those overhead lights etc and keeps the picture and colours strong and bright. I have seen the D8000 playing avatar (2D) in harvey norman recently and the power of the light output reminded me of LED except with great natural colour tones, blacks and motion that comes with plasma's. I couldnt watch 3D on it, but I did demo the D550 (or whatver the lower end model is) samsung plasma in 3D and although it is difficult to judge crosstalk etc. in such a brightly lit environment, it looked much improved over last years models with no crosstalk I could see and the 3D pop was great. I would say atleast on par with Panasonics 3D from last year. So I'm expecting big things from the D8000. Having my C7000 exchanged shortly with the D8000 so will post my opinions then
T800
Looked at the 550 today, was't too bad but wasn't blown away like the new LED LCD UA55D6600. One thing I hated on the 550 was the rear inputs, unlike the LED the power and aerial inputs will be sticking out (the power cord by at least 20mm) so you couldn't use a super slim wall mount

MrQuade
I have ordered the UA55D8000 from Cheapbargains for $3501 as per their specials that run out tonight (am curious to see what the non-special price is now). I was thinking of hanging around for the 60" model, but in the end thought perhaps getting the sensible bargain was a better option. Rang to check on supply, and they said that none were available in WA, so I requested delivery from the NSW warehouse for $115 extra rather than wait and fuss about. Fingers crossed all goes well. tter2
Hmm, I want the U40D6600 for my bedroom, and their price is VERY enticing: $1,564..... but part of me would rather buy from a bricks and mortar store.... decisions, decisions. RRP is $2099, I'd love to know what the cost price of this TV is.... I'm guessing around the $1500 mark. ... and does anyone know if these new Samsungs come with a pair of 3D glasses?? Or will I have to shell out extra for those? Edited May 19, 2011 by tter2
