I dont believe it matters the source as meta data library is title by title from my understanding there was a good report done by our man vincent at hdtv test but anyways we are probably going off track for the oled thread here  

 

can note around 8:15-8:45 before and after. talks through the whole update issue... and it includes the apple tv (though as he says ti tends to get its updates the fastest !

Projectors aside, imo after coming from last years 9000E LED, you can only really appreciate HDR on an OLED.

Even the surround feature with the A8F’s own speakers is the best I’ve heard on a tv. It’s screen acoustics technology is great and I’m sitting here watching Jurassic world with just the tv and it’s own speakers and it’s adequate.

LG does nothing about it. They do not cover burn-in under warranty (in Aus at least) saying that burn-in only comes from misuse. Of course, you could try to fight it through ACL, but that is their official stance so far.

As a general rule i would say burn in with OLED is nothing more than a marketing scare campaign by Samsung to try and gain sales for there own tv's.As of now they are the only big player without a foot in the Oled camp and Oled sales are steadily increasing.Had my LG C7 for a long time now and never seen any image retention at all with normal mixed content,nothing like issues i have had in years past with Plasma and CRT tv's.Rtings website has been running burn in tests on Oled's with CNN news and sport channels so that should give people an idea of how many hours of abuse you have to give the screen to actually induce burn in.

Just to throw an example of OLED image burn, I came across this listing on gumtree

You can clearly see the Dolby logo burnt into the screen on image 2:

However, I would guess this was used as a demo somewhere and probably had that logo on screen for days at a time.

 

I'm in the process of deciding on a new TV and the PQ on OLED is just so much better than most LED LCD's it really is hard to go past. Plus, I had no issues with my Plasma TV over 7years and screen burn was used back then (2007) as a fear to help sell LCD TV's.

I would normally agree, regarding burn-in should only come from misuse of the TV, however there's just far too many user reports of burn in to ignore.

In saying that, I've had a plasma for 7 years and zero sign of any image retention/burn in.

It just comes down to common sense and buying a tv to suit the content you will be watching most.If you watch mixed content and love movies in a light controlled room the OLED is a no brainer,it smashes LCD into a million pieces.If you play the same video game for 10 hours a day you are better off with an LCD display i would say.I'm actually considering buying the new Sony X90F for the new NFL season for the specific purpose of watching NFL redzone which runs over 7 hours with no commercials.Displaying the same logo for that amount of time for the 17 weeks of the NFL season would seem like a pretty dumb thing to do with my pristine clean LG C7.

same never had any burn in issue with any plasmas have owned and which family own. but i have taken some very simple and basic measures to setup to make sure operating at some sane levels rather than the out of box retina burnings lit up to impress box mover shop levels they tend to come with

Plasma and OLED are very different technologies.  If you like the OLED and worried about image retention/burn in, I’d suggest you go the next best thing, QLEDs.  Samsung is marketing there QLED range with some serious screen retention/burn in  warranty.  I wouldn’t touch or considered any factory 2nds on OLEDs you don’t know who’s hands it’s been through, especially where in shop cranked up to saturated levels to out performed the next panel on the shelf.    I watched a looped video showing the difference between HDR/Standard on a LG OLED show the difference on HDR and Standard where the screen was split 50/50 to show the improvement on HDR.  I can honestly say that the Stanadard was so much more realistic with realistic image presentation becuase this OLED screen was cranked up that hard that the HDR presentation was washed out to “cartoon “ like images, even the white text in a black background was bleeding into the black in the background goes to show how out of spec it was adjusted out!

The grey uniformity has issues and actually worse than last years edge lit models.Certainly worse than the Sony X90F which has slight colour shift on all four corners which is why HN are putting stickers on all four corners of of the Sony in the showroom.This leads to DSE on sports broadcasts that would drive me nuts.Oled has the cleanest screens of the premium TV's on offer in 2018 and my 2017 LG C7 has absolutely no DSE in sports boadcasts.

probably just needing a bit of calibration. its stupid how bad these panels are out of factory and on factory settings. check out tony's calibration before after pics if down believe.

I had well over 30 min with the X90F with stickers peeled off and my own content and calibration slides and getting it out of the horrible shop mode was of course the first thing i did.I found exactly the same thing that Rtings found in there review which is to say it's actually pretty good with the minor deviations in the corners.Only getting one home and seeing if i found it distracting in real world content could i say if i could live with it as a secondary display.The Sammy Q9 i haven't had a chance to play round with it for an extended period yet but i will do at some stage.Regardless of what display you buy though there is a good chance it will have some quirk that you will find annoying to live with or a picture flaw that once seen can't be unseen.My advice to anyone would be buy the TV that has the least number of things they find annoying and chances are that is what will give you the most enjoyment.

All screen, according to Graphic Arts specification and Fiery,  are allowed up to a Delta 5 tolerance right through out the screen,  the Rtings test you can see that at week 1 the OLED has almost a perfect consistent output from corner to corner compared to the other types of screens, to me that week one, that screen would have measured less that Delta 2 maybe up to 3.  The inconsistency isn’t visible to the naked eye at 1st glance, you’ll have to look hard to find that inconsistency.  It’s very cool to even have a screen like that!  But in Graphic Arts the pictures are static and in time will change that requires constant calibration.  I’ve also notice on one Swedish design equipment  that has an OLED touch screen display is showing “screen retention or burn in” when initially switched on.  This touch panel is only 10mths old, not noticeable when it’s fully lit up to normal, the reason I brought this up is that there is no intensity adjustment for this display!  Only time will tell when the client starts complaining.

I'm thinking about getting the Panasonic 2018 65" OLED after accidentally viewing one. 

 

Any advice is welcome please regards 55" versus 65" and LG versus Panasonic.

 

I couldn't find much on the 65" but the 2018 Panasonic 55" OLED seem to rate well for colour fidelity and price:

is 65" the new 55" I only ask because if say our 50" telly was to go poop tomorrow I too would be a bit torn whether to get a 55" or just get a 65" and be done with it ?reality though we do also run a projector so perhaps a 55" will do anyways 5 inches bigger screen size is a jump up anyways .

 

nada re panasonic vs LG.... not to put spanner in works but have you checked out the sony 55/65 I'd be personally comparing those rather than vs the LG

i purchased a 55’ OLED as a second tv to dip my toes in the OLED tv waters so to speak. But I really regret not getting a 65’. The 55’ is good, but in most cases I don’t think you will regret going up in size.

 

As far as brands go, when I buy a 65’ soon, it will likely be the Panasonic, mainly based on its value and looks really. The 55’ I have is the LG C7 and I have been very happy with it though, although when I purchased I wouldn’t have said LG was one of the brands I would have gravitated to traditionally based on their reputational history. 

 

As Al says above the Sony’s are a good option too, they have a good reputation for their processing, but I think the latest cheaper Sony OLED looks silly with its small stand, but that’s just me.

 

The other issue to consider is Dolby vision v HDR, the Panasonic is HDR and the LG is Dolby vision. So I guess a driver is where you will get your content from. We have the 4K Apple TV which is Dolby vision, so the LG makes a lot of sense. And as I am led to believe there isn’t a great deal of HDR content as yet.

 

Have fun choosing, they all have good picture from what I have seen. I couldn’t go to an LED after owning an OLED at this point.

this is a good point worth bearing in mind. if wanting to experience dolby vision its worth buying the right TV. all TVS will support hdr10 which is standard. but only few support HDR10+ and dolby vision. still a bit of a beta vs VHS battle going on there... wish they'd just support either ...
