Moving To The Uk

Recommended Posts

Hye guys,

As the title says im moving to the UK and i will be selling all my stuff off and hoping to be able to get something as good if not better over in the UK!

Any help would be great. I have used pricerunner.co.uk or what ever that is and its helped a bit

When you get to the UK you will find that many big box retailers selling TV's etc. Suggest that you check out a few when you get over there.

To get an idea of pricing I suggest you look at the web sites of Richer Sounds (43 stores in the UK) - http://www.richersounds.com/ or Superfi - http://www.superfi.co.uk

It looks like advertised TV prices are lower over there, for example Richer Sounds has the Panasonic 50" G10 advertised for 959 pounds ($1851 at current exchange rate)

+1 for Richer Sounds - particularly in the budget end of the market (Sherwood, Cambridge Audio, etc.) Good shop to deal with, knowledgeable guys, but more the type of shop to go in and pick up what you want. Pile 'em high and ship 'em out is the philosophy, though some stores (possibly many now) do have dedicated listening rooms. They used to have a limited amount of select higher-end equipment, too, like B&W and Mission if memory serves, though the ranges may well have changed since I was there.

Depending on what area you are moving to it would pay to look up the local hi-fi specialists if you are after high-end equipment. If moving to London, Tottenham Court Road is the place to go - loads of electronic stores there, bargains to be had and days to be lost in an AV whirl. Birmingham has a good hi-fi store out on the Hagley Road (damned if I can remember the name of it now) and a few others dotted around. Manchester and Liverpool have their own decent hi-fi stores, including a Richer Sounds each; one specialist store in Warrington (between the two cities) was extremely helpful when I went there looking for speakers in the '90's.

UK is not a particularly cheap place to live overall, but you will find some great electronics bargains over there. Equivalents over here are a little more expensive, probably due to shipping costs in the main, I would think. Happy hunting.

Cheers,

Al.
