*UPDATE* The Next 5D on March 2, 2012 [CR3]

*UPDATE*

March 2 will be the date for the 5D replacement. Confirmation of events in France and Singapore. There may be something else on February 28 and things were reversed, I am trying to confirm that.

So yes, I changed the announcement date rated [CR3]. I may catch a little flack for that, but it had to be done.

5D Mark III/X

Below are the specs for the coming 5D replacement, the full name of the camera is currently unknown.

Specs

22mp

61pt AF

100% VF

3.2″ LCD

Dual CF/SD Card Slots

Price: Around $3500 USD

Announcement on March 2, 2012 (Depending where you are on earth)

So this pretty much confirms what we’ve been saying for a while now.

Just picked up a Canon Powershot S100 to take OS with us in April.

Couldn't be bothered lugging the DSLR with me, so thought this should do the trick.

Anybody already got one ??

Is it an update to the S90? It will do the trick... TBH any camera for travel will do the trick. There are pros and cons of each, and weight is always an issue... So a DSLR will not suit every occassion.

You should have purchased the cam closer to Apr, and then fill out whatever forms you need to get the GST rebate... Or maybe you still can claim GST?...

Can folks explain to me again how this clam GST work? What do folks need to do do this?

Edit: And wet cleaning..

Edit2: Cannonrumours say there is an announcement tomorrow (Mar 1 somewhere else)... EOS.. Words above means "It's SLR, Its (cut off)"... That means a body right? 5DMk3? 7DMk2? Or a EVIL???

I think they stuffed up and posted the info a little early. I reckon Canon has called them and told them to take the page down. There's bound to be an embargo until the official announcement is made.

Yeah I'd say they weren't meant to have up as yet. Like the 7D it was out literally week of worldwide release. So who knows there might stock already in the country !

Ps most of my dslr bodies from Ted so surprising their rice where it is. Last time even jb hifi could match teds price!

So can only hope on release they are doing some thing special

If you have any friends going overseas, get them to buy it, and then bring it out (claim GST), and bring it in again? 10% saving?

Hopefully price will come down.. Don't think it's a good idea to be the first to get this anyway.. it's the same AF system as the 1Dx, apparently got some problem still - so wait till canon fix it via the firmware first...

Bend over and drop 'em! :angry2:

At Digital Camera Warehouse: $4,199. That mob usually have the lowest price in town. But from www.dpreview.com:

It will be available from the end of March with an MSRP of $3499 / €3299 / £2999.99.

Using xe.com those international prices are $3,249 / 4,067 / 4,435. The yanks get it for $950 less!!!!!!

Pity the poor poms!

But they deserve it.

for nikon fans it appears nikon australia has come to the party and allowing jb hifi to sell australian nikon stock at the same price as grey imports. means jb no longer sells grey imported nikons.

ofcourse JB hifi continue to sell grey import canon cameras. And I suppose that will continue on to be the case as long as grey imported canon cameras will be so much cheaper than the locally sold product from canon australia.

That is fantastic news...putting pressure on Canon to match them...win for the consumer.

From Engadget

On a related note, Canon also informed that Mark II will soon be get's its price reduced, but there's no word on an exact number just yet

a good hands on review here too,

http://blog.jeffascough.com/photographers/2012/03/canon-eos-5d-mark-iii-review.html

really seems a good step forward it would seem, faster shutter response, better iso and low light capability, better focusing from the 1DX. A 100% viewfinder. And so glad they have kept to 22mp rather than succomb to the mega pixel race with crazy file sizes ! and concentrate on PQ instead :)

From the review:

You will lose the ability to blame the camera for any shortcomings in your own photographic ability.

I don't think I'll get one now!

Came across this last night:

HDR

The EOS 5D Mark III camera features a built-in HDR mode, merging three images at various exposure levels into a single image, in-camera, for stunning photographs of landscapes and architecture with enhanced tonal gradation beyond the range of the naked eye. The exposure levels in the camera's HDR mode can be set to cover a range of up to ±3 stops, in a choice of five settings: Natural, Art Standard, Art Vivid, Art Bold and Art Embossed providing unique visual effects. Individual source images can be saved as separate files, and the HDR mode has an optional automatic alignment function that can be useful for hand-held shooting. The EOS 5D Mark III's standard Auto Exposure Bracketing function has been upgraded to allow for up to seven exposures per sequence, and exposure compensation can now be set for up to ±5EV.

Whilst it's a bit of technofizz, it would be handy on the odd occasion. For instance, I had great trouble taking a decent photo of my AV gear because of the huge dynamic range (most stuff black, one box silver). The only way I could do it was with a tripod, take two images at difference exposure settings and then a bit of Gimp magic.

http://www.kogan.com...-mark-III-body/

availabile 30th april..

presale listing on kogan but for $350 saving plus delivery I think I'd rather buy local....and given the local price is a bit rich...will see what some arm twisting will do on release...otherwise I think I will just pass...too rich for me !

in time hopefully the price comes down a fraction. if kogan had listed at the us price plus shipping I would have been all over it ! :(
