Samsung Led Ua55b8000 ( First One In Australia)

Recommended Posts

Well had the TV Tec come out and have a look at the problems today. He stated Samsung are aware of the problems and the Telly needs a new screen !!!! I reckon if a brick fell out of the sky it would hit me first.

There really is a case of deja vous about me and televisions.

I'm curious on how this technician came to this conclusion. I have installed a qty of models in the LED panels and the viewing angle has been atrocious on all of them to say the least. A few of them have been returned to the retailers over here for this reason alone. Plasmas were purchased instead. So it may appear a replacement will yield no better result. Shame really. Do you still have the SXRD I sold you a few years ago? Duh, I sure it would be long gone now with many other panels to supercede it, the Groover way! :D

Well the repair guy has said he is waiting on an answer from Samsung, I know I'm well in my rights to ask for my money back. Although what else can I get which even comes close... nothing .

So its going to be an interesting couple of weeks.

I bet if you put some effort in to it Angelo [ as you normally do ] you could source a Pioneer LX609A it will be worth it ;)

cheers laurie

Mate I agree with you but my last Pioneer kinda left a bad taste in my mouth (and no it wasn't Carlton Blonde ). Its almost double the price as well.

Never mind I'm flying the Samsung flag (cant believe I just said that !)

angelo, the kuro 9's dont have the red push issues of the kuro 8.

as in the link below of the lab test on the kuro 9 krp equivalent. you'll see it calibrates as good as it gets !

in my opinion if looking for other options to the sammy this would be worth checking out. they do cost a fair bit I do agree, but still worth it I reckon :)

I have had my UA55b8000 Samsung up and running for nearly 2 weeks - so your claim of being the first one in Aus in not correct (but hey, Real Estate Agents often have great difficulty with this aspect of life).

Yeh the ua55b8000 has been available in perth since the 1st of june , so im guessing available in eastern states about 10 days before that.

But hey they probably meant the first batch in the country which is very likely.

I think it has a good picture in low light , shame the speakers are crap in these ultra thin tellys.

Ill have a look at the new Pioneers , Id feel a lot better about them if they weren't a discontinued item though. The only LG flag I've flown is its PVR which turned out to be made by someone else. :P

Thanks for the tips bud.

so Owen what would your recommendation be between a local dimming LED panel and a Panasonic G10? Obviously there's a substantial price difference, and blacks may not be up to your standard on either, but I'd be interested to hear which you'd choose over the other. Or are they pretty similar in terms of blacks and it is up to the consumer whether they prefer the LCD or plasma look?

Sonys XBR45 is the best LCD on the market, but it’s not cheap. Depending on the scene blacks can be better than a Kuro and colour is just as accurate as well.

LCD’s still have a look which you either like or you don’t, it’s a choice only you can make. I would go with a 63” Samsung or 65” Panasonic Plasma over a 55” Sony LCD

Everything is discontinued within a year of purchase so what’s the problem.

So how's the UA55B8000 working out? Keeper? Is the off-axis viewing as big of a problem as others make it out to be?

For regular TV/PS3 duties in a living room which has other light sources present, would this be better or a PS58B850?

PS: we have a dedicated home theatre room for cinema-style movie viewing.

I've noticed mine has the worst off axis viewing of any UA55B8000 I've seen. It does vary dramatically from one UA55B8000 to another. I'm still waiting to see what Samsung is going to do about it. Ill give it another week then Ill just ask Myers for my money back.

I really don't like the PQ on the PS58B850 compared to the UA55B8000 though. I would wait to see what else Sammy brings out as I'm now a big fan of their LCD TV PQ.

I know I have asked this before mate, but how is the picture “quality” of the 8000 any different to other Samsung LCD’s? Brightness is not a measure of “quality”, so what other aspects of performance do you consider better?

How do you find sports on the B8000, pretty smooth? I've only ever seen them playing a blu-ray or a looping demo disc.

What aspects weren't you happy with the B850 picture?

It just is. Its kinda hard to explain in technical terms but when watching HD material the 8000 has the most life like picture than any other LCD I've ever seen. It could be down to the side lighting or the 200 Hertz picture. But trust me with all of its faults and it has a few, why do you think I trying to get it fixed, and not simply sent back like I usually do.

One of the best displays for sports. I've got a Pioneer plasma which has a sharper and natural look than the B850.

The only thing that I cant understand about the 8000 is when watching a show like Home and Away the PQ is just fantastic but the judder is really bad. Its one of the very few shows that it does that with.

Ignoring the price, would you buy the 8000 now, or wait for the 8500 which is supposedly released in September? Is there any associated lag-time between release in the US and AUS?

Definitely wait for the 8500 as I hope they would have addressed all of the problems <_< .

Many thanks for your advice. Could I also ask - what options are there for audio output? Can the unit pass through optical audio from an hdmi source @ 5.1? the Samsung website is next to useless in this regard!

The only audio out put from the tv is optical.

Sooo............ I asked the Samsung distributor when the 8500 was coming and he said it was an overseas only model. Not coming to Australia.

This statement, coupled with the fact that our LCD died, has lead to the purchase of the UA55B8000 and my god is it impressive!

Whipped out the Iron Man Blu-Ray and I was picking up details that I'd never seen before.

I have two queries:

1) Have you tried the wi-fi adaptor, and if so, where'd you purchase from?

2) On a black screen with a small amount of black text, does the text appear dim?

Well I've had enough of it. As much as I love this screen its short comings drive me nuts so she is history. The 8500 is only an American model (WTF) and we are not getting it.

They are going to replace it with the A950 (apparently I only had the 950 before <_< ) Its a extinct model. Only this time I'm going to look at it at the warehouse first and if I don't like it , I get a full refund.

The joys of it all.

I had a great look at one of these yesterday, and I agree with all of you lucky buyers, easily the best TV I have seen in a really long time.

What a stunner.

If I could justify upgrading our 50" Pana Plasma in the lounge I would. But I can't :( The plasma is going beautifully.

Angelo, how can you let the TV go? Even with the shortcomings?

Aren't you tempted to swap it for another of the same?

Typhoon.

NO the telly had issues which got worse with time. Samsung Australia will not admit to this but they know this telly has major issues. They released the 8500 in America which has gone back to rear led lighting.I gone for the older series 950a with the latest chase and firmware Ill get it today . Only time will tell.

Just spotted this thread. We took delivery of a UA55B8000 in July and have been happy with it. l have played around with the picture settings a little but soon realised l had no idea. l will plug these in shortly and see how the PQ looks

Does anyone know where to buy the wireless dongle (WIS09AG) from ?

Ours came with one of these, it was easy to setup and works as designed

Cheers,

mondie

Is this still a reccomended buy? Is there anything on the horizon (even from Sony) that addresses these issues?

I am also very interested in this model. I love the look and how thin the model is. Maybe I'm just not as picky as some of the videophiles around here but I think the picture looks quite good.

Has anyone else recently purchased one and have any comments to make on it?

Hey Angelo are you forgetting the beast :D the KVHR eh!!! now that had one nice PQ, a little on the bulky side though LOL.

And mate regarding what you said about never being happy well think of this if you were you would just stick with one panel and upgrade every 5 years or so instead of chasing the wholey grail like you are which is much more fun isnt it:D

Good to see your still having fun mate ;)

[b]Good afternoon Im quite new to this and somehow i can not post my new personal msg here so with all due respect i had to ask here just incase someone could help me

I brought a new 127cm plasma screen 2 years ago Samsung brand.

And my question is can the plasma screen i brought which cost me around 2,500.00 dollars can view 3-D movies ? I want to buy a 3-D movie on dvd and i want to know if this will work on my plasma screen ? and of course if only i new where to buy these 3-D classes for the family.

I also have a Pionneer DVD recorder it contains SD tv tuner and that i want to know if the DVD 3-D movie will work on that ? (no its not a blueray disc) its just normal dvd disc but in 3-D and you need special clases to view the movie for that.

I hope i can get some imput on this. And want to apoligies for using the owner of this thread as i may awell be off topic but wanted to know something just before i end up buying the movie and spend money for it. Incase it dosnt work.

Oh the plasma i have is not a fully HD but it is close to a Full-hd and of course intergraded SD tuner on the plasma.

thank you to everyone ill keep an eye to my msg

sandra
