Acer Hd Tv, No Picture Of Hd Channels, But Sound

Recommended Posts

a mate of mine bought himself an Acer 1080 LCD 37" tele and has been happily using it with SD digital stations for nearly 12 months.

he finally got around to checking out HD channels (hes not overly interested) however when the tv rescanned all the channels, picks up the HD channels fine, just no picture displays, only sound.

if you do an info on the channel, it reports all channels are 576i.

i reset everything on the tele back to factory, rescanned all the channels, cant get any picture for any of the HD stations;

is there some trick to setting the mode on acer tvs?

something we're missing?

ive googled for help, but found nothing

Which model?

Does it have a built in HD digital tuner, or is he using a set top box?.. If a STB, make & model of that too please.

Some Acer screens are HD "Ready" meaning they will accept an HD input from an HD STB or blu-ray player etc, but only have an SD tuner in them.

A lot of SD tuners will see the HD channel info, but are not capable of decoding the pictures.

model is acer at3705-dtv

As suspected, it's a SD tuner only.

It was advertised as "HD-Ready". meaning it will accept HD resolution from an external HD tuner or other HD device.

If your mate connects an HD STB via component or HDMI, he'll get the HD channels in 1080i

It pays to do a bit of research.

In the end, it's nothing a HD STB or PVR won't fix.

wow, thats pretty bad;

ok thanks guys!

It weas released at a time when HD tuners in tv's were very rare if available at all. Its actaully quite old having been released about 3+ years ago.

Must have bought it as a runout special if they have only had it for 12 months
