Black Dawg Down
I reckon $3k is too much for 46" as well, especially when you consider that a Panasonic 46PZ800 is going for $2k.I would like the 46W4500 for around $2600 with a free Sony blu-ray player. I would like it for even less than you , probably around $2,500 but without the blu-ray player. Yesterday I was quoted $2,900 at Bing Lee Rockdale. I walked out to NAPF a few metres down the street, and was quoted $2,750. But they don't have any stock until the first week of Jan. So within a day I have managed to save $250. Despite there was only me in the store, Sony Central seemed not too interested in sales in this troubled times. Oh well, it's their loss. I'm going to try my luck at Myer and see if they have really changed to become competitive.
PeterL
As you quoted [They have all three Z4500 and XBR45 at David Jones in Sydney CBD.] Yeah, I think they have all three sizes. They have them all, now it is "I Think" ?? Called yesterday and they still in the dark as to delivery from Sony Edited December 22, 2008 by PeterL
Geforce1503560728
I'm going to try my luck at Myer and see if they have really changed to become competitive. Let us know how you go with Myer. They actually seemed to be wanting to deal when I went in there asking about a Pana 46PZ800 ($2450 incl 5 yrs) and a Pana dmr-xw300 pvr ($750). It was just too easy. I got the impression that I could push them a little harder for a cash sale. Have bought $3k of gift vouchers (plus $300 bonuses) in readiness. I'm still leaning towards an LCD though, the 46w4500 in particular, and a free blu-ray player would seal the deal.

I will be there today or tomorrow and I'm pretty sure I saw it there last week. Anyway if they told you they don't have it they must be right. Sorry for that! I didn't catch the prices but there was a Sony rep there and he said they do have them and delivery is 5 working days. Didn't ask about the 52" though - sorry. PeterL
Hot off the press. The KDL524500 has landed (On Monday) and distribution is now taking place from Sydney. Major dealers like Sony Central, JB, HN will most probably get some stock tomorrow and then next week followed by most 1st week Jan. Grunta, you may have a 52" for New Year. I can confirm this aswel, was told i could pick up my 52z tomorrow from the Bing Lee's main factory but opted to wait till Monday and pick it up from local store. Picked up mine for $4765 38months interest free. Paid a little extra but considering the I/F period not too bad of a deal.

The salesman told me they would be the first ones in Adelaide to get them in (of course) I will give them a call and see when it is going to be in. All they can say was to wait till Boxing Day for the 15% off electrical. Any further discounts on top of the 15%, I asked. Nope, they said. What a joke. Everyone knows 15% means BS, as it's only 15% off the ticket price. I won't be going back for sure.
thewinchester
Picked up the 46Z4500 at JB Hi-Fi on Christmas eve for 3499.00, and quite happy with it for the most part. Setup was a breeze, and got everything perfect the first time except for the fact after plugging everything in and removing all the excess cables I no longer needed, I forgot to connect the power lead. The one main downside of the unit is the EPG service and specifically the event timers. I like the idea of being able to set timers on shows which you want to watch, but the UI for when a timer event occurs needs some improvement. When a timer event is about to occur, the TV will simply change to the channel (or to TV mode then the channel if on another input) and then display a message that its switching due to a timer event. This can be particularly annoying when you're playing a game on a games console when you're taking major fire and trying not to die (or be run over by a train as happened in my case mid-level in The Bourne Supremacy), or watching a DVD. It also gives no information about the specific event to enable decision making process, so for that information you have to access the guide and go thru the list until you see the timer icon for a program about to occur, or bring up information on any program and select the timer list option on screen to see a list of timer events. When a timer event is about to occur, it would be more ideal to display a dialogue box with the program information and give the user the option to: - Switch now, - Remind me again in X min, or - Cancel this event and stick with what I'm currently doing thanks. If the user of course does not respond to the dialogue box within an appropriate time, the TV can just continue with the default action (which the user could set from the system menu). Additionally, from the EPG you should be able to access the timer list with a single button option and not have to view a programs details to access it. Its an unnecessary level of navigation which should be removed. The other interesting thing is the LAN connection, and the fact it only supports audio and pictures. If it can process those with the truckload of open source code the system uses, why not include video as well. If they were able to do that, it would make this unit a real 'holy grail' device IMHO. Which JB? Cash or credit card? Get a PVR then you can ignore the EPG problem I beleive that is an add on available later, if you have PS3 then that does it doesn't it? I was watching a W4500 playing blue ray The Dark Night and the 100hz thing was bugging me sensless on action sense making all action look fake (as all 100hz does) and making it look to "Video" like instead of film. How is the Z? I know it was just a store set up so probably not getting the best. But film should look like film and people should move as people do not with this HYPER movement that 100hz creates. How does it handle SD television and DVDs?
mohammedm
Let the "games" begin: SONY Central stores in Queensland have the following advert in today's Courier Mail newspaper: Free PS3 (via redemption) with all 46" and 52" W and Z series Bravia TVs. No prices given, so I'm not sure if they will discount the price, or only offer the redemption on full ticket prices.
