tok
The Minister for Broadband, Communications and Digital Economy yesterday announced a $1 million technical survey to assist with the special digital TV reception issues for some flats, apartments and townhouses, known as Multi-Dwelling Units. It is being conducted by Australian Digital Testing. "We will survey six hundred sites across the nation to provide estimates of the cost and time-frames needed to rectify problems within different sizes and types of buildings so we can provide timely and practical information to the public," Mr Townend, Executive Director of the Digital Switchover Taskforce, said. The Taskforce is calling for expressions of interest from relevant parties to have their buildings included in the project. All selected participants will be provided with a free comprehensive technical report. We are particularly interested in apartment buildings where the owners/occupiers have difficulty receiving free to air digital TV. You can nominate your building by clicking on the link on the Australian Digital Testing website.

Good work if you can get it. How many do you think they do in a day? Man I could imagine how hard that would be to do. Look at headend. Measure. Go to last point on trunk measure. Single channel headend with no 6, 8, 11, 12. Immediate fail. So glad we have a Rudd government, it feels like Christmas, until we have to pay more taxes... Could make a wonderful song. Man many technicians (myself included) will quote an apartment block and look carefully at the system, provided the body corp's serious because there is an immediate need to update most apartment blocks for digital. A government sponsored party just doesn't sound like a wise spend of money.
alanh
Remember that there will be a set of translators mounted on the top of the Rialto building installed probably before or just after the analog switchoff at the end of next year. AlanH
andrewlace
Yes AlanH we remember. My point is that many apartment blocks had or have the wrong or even faulty amplifiers. In many cases the antenna will need replacing. But how this has anything to do with the Rialto towers that needs to be clarified. Using the word remember all the time assumes that everyone else has a bad memory.

beeblebrox
And the rialto transmitters seem to be continuing to be future.. actually they've been future since they where first mooted in the '80s ... they could be a little less future now but only time will tell
