Has anyone had a chance to compare the XD-E500 to the Pioneer 610AV as they're comparable in price/features?

Bought a XD-E500 about a month ago now, and I am very impressed. I wanted one for another room, which has a Samsung 32" on the wall. Never thought I would say it, but it beats the impressive XE-1 easily.

I did have the stuttering, pixelating problem that has been reported elsewhere, put resetting the player seems to be a fix.

For a cheap player, I highly recommend.

p.s. Damn. I just realised what I have done.

Although it is hard to believe that a standard DVD player could do a better job at upscaling standard DVD's than the Hi-Def players, the Toshiba Xd-e500 Dvd does. Even, you can enjoy quality video with the old DVDs.

Thanks to the help on this forum I bought the Toshiba XDE 500 for $180 ( $30 for 3 years warranty).

I am looking for a DVD player and recorder with similar specs to the Toshiba. Your suggestions pls? Need this for my sister who also watches lots of DVD from overseas. I guess a Combo DVD player and recorder is better than buying them separate.

I like the look of this player, however, not sure about it from a sound perspective. I have hdmi on my 42' pana, but not on my avr. Can anyone comment on the digital audio output as I was really looking for a player with 7.1 analogue outputs to suit my avr. Sound is obviously an important component for me, so was seeking feedback on the quality of this.

Catch of the Day have this available for $129 + $7.95 shipping.

Is it worth it at this price? I have an old clunker LG unit with a dead remote which I'm considering replacing.

I never replied to say I bought this DVD Player. I use it via HDMI, feeding through an EZYHD HDMI 5-in-1-out switcher into my TEAC 32" LCD which has only one HDMI input. The picture quality is excellent. I can't see much of a difference with the "XDE" functions which supposedly improve the picture, but I can say the picture is much clearer than my old LG DZ-111 clunker of a DVD player, which was connected via Component.

I'm quite surprised how well the HDMI Switcher works ... I have a TiVo which is "always on" so always outputting via HDMI. When I turn the DVD player on, the HDMI Switcher changes source to the DVD Player. When I turn the DVD player off, it changes source back to the TiVo. If I want to override it, I can manually select a source, but that's not normally necessary.
