Hi,

any one recommend a flat/tilt wall bracket for a TH-50PZ850A?

I got the cheapest tiltable up and down I could off EBAY, about $60, it was identical to the ones in JB for a sticker price of $199, solid as, works perfectly

Check out www.selbyaccoustics.com.au or just click on one of their banners on this site.

They've got some good prices on cabling and brackets.

I've actually put up a 50" 70a up with one of their tilt brackets, and I think the bracket only cost around $60 or so.

No name no brand, just fits plasma 50" to 60" 15 degress up and down

It is not quite that wide so would not bolt into both studs (are you sure there is not another stud in between, studs aint usually that far apart)

Two decent supplied bolts into one stud WILL hold it, seriously!

Good luck

Anyone had an issue with a 800a when you have a dvd player on hdmi 1 coming up with the error HDMI Audio not supported ?

Occasionally it passes the audio through the hdmi cable fine, but most of the time the error comes up.

I'd prefer to run the little Samsung dvd player via HDMI, but it's getting to the stage of having to go back to crappy old composite inputs (kinda defeats the idea of a HD plasma, doesn't it ?).

i can't believe it wont output 5.1 from the digital out...

I just hooked mine up to the xbox with HDMI to the TV and am tearing my hair out trying to figure out why the audio wont output to my amp in 5.1 (my amp doesn't have HDMI so it's my only option atm)... seriously FFS

i am speechless at how stupid this is :( :( :(

I'm assuming you are talking about FTA from the panel's digital output? Naturally, anything externally connected to the panel will not output in multi-channel audio , only 2 channel. The built in tuner will output 5.1 providing it is in the broadcast, and you have your audio setting within the panel set to dolby digital. This topic has been covered many times.

The digital output on Pana plasmas (and any other brand for that matter) at best only output DD5.1 on FTA HD broadcasts that support DD5.1. Any other input (HDMI, Composite, Component, PC) will at best give 2.0.

This is equal or better than other brands. Pioneer for example only out put FTA through the digital optical out.

Your best bet is HDMI to teh TV from the Xbox, and optical from Xbox to AVR

This issue has been discussed many many times before.

Hi There - My problem is my AVR only has 1 optical input & 0 HDMI inputs (multiple RCA inputs though). Currently i am connecting like this:

PS3 -> TV via HDMI

PS3 -> AVR via Optical

TV -> AVR via RCA

I am going to buy the PZ800a within a weeks time and i had the same question of whether the set would output in 5.1 from an external source. The answer from searching through here is obviously NO and the simple solution to give me 5.1 from all sources is to go and buy a new AVR - unfortunately due to buying new plasma, new AVR is not an option.

Taking into consideration all of this; is there such thing as an Optical Double Adapter? If there is such a thing would it automatically detect which source the sound feed was coming from?

Thank-you for your help.

After much lurking and research in these forums I have just picked up the 800a from Myer in Adelaide for $2348.10...

Dont bother asking for a receipt though coz it it was a result of special MyerOne Vouchers ($10 off for every $75 spent) and then a further 10% discount...

I was planning on waiting about 4 months to buy it for a couple of reasons, but at that price i couldnt resist :D

wow nice pick up, I got those vouchers as well, but I would of thought they would not allow you to use them on something like a TV.

I just bought a TH-50PZ80A for $2300 and boy am I loving it this is my first plasma, was looking at the 800a but there is not much difference between the 80a and the 800a to justify paying the extra for the 800a.

The Picture Quality is superb on the 80a and I am very happy with it, so if you are not after the extra Hdmi and some very small features that you probably don't need anyway grab the 80a and save some money.

Cheers Bob

24P Real Cinema

Quote from Jenneth Orantia in the May '08 edition of APC magazine

"24P is a feature that's available for Blue-ray and HD DVD discs, whereby the TV displays the movie at the original 24 frames per second it was shot in "

"What usually happens on a standard definition PAL system is that the movie is sped up by four per cent to 25 frames per second and converted to the interlaced 50Hz format that the TV can display

Support for 24P means means that the TV doesn't have to perform any format or frame conversions for high definition discs, and the resulting picture is as close to true cinema as we've seen on a television "

The Panasonic TH-50PZ80A does not appear to have this whereas the TH-50PZ800A does have it

Could you new owners of the Panasonic TH-50PZ80A and TH-50PZ800A check your Panasonic manuals and confirm this !

The TH-50PZ80a does not have this feature but I dont see the diference in having it or not having it, I had a 24p display before and I see no difference in watching Blu-ray with this feature.

Does anybody know how high can the resolution can go on PC input on the back of the 800A ?

I just plugged my laptop into PC connector to play PC game

I could get a maximum resolution of 1024 by 768, any higher and it went black!

I can get 1280 by 1024 on an old flat panel monitor nearby so the video card can pipe at least that much out of laptop.

Don't get me wrong screen was very clear, much better than composite to CRT, just wondering what the limit was into this input

Understand the vouchers but how did you manage the extra 10%? Usually they have a high retail price then the vouchers bring it in line with other retailers, then you managed another 10%. Total 25% off well done damm good price. It was a 50" wasn't it?

Went in to Myer Marion in Adelaide planning to purchase the 80 last week...but after seeing how superior the 800 is, I just couldn't do the deed and have postponed my buying decision as the minister of finance had only approved a $1700 purchase :o

The Blu-Ray of Casino Royale was playing on both TV's which were conveniently located close to each other 800 was in a different league. The image had a 3d depth about it and when the credits appeared there was no juddering at all, wheres the 80 looked very jerky indeed. The sales dude said it was the 24p feature that was the reason for the non jerky picture.

We sit 5 metres away from the TV so I thought there would be no benefit in getting a 1080 set over a 720, but there was a very distinct difference even discounting config settings etc.

Cheers

Johnno
