Guest miki10
hey does any of you have any issues with reflection on the 50pz800a, particularly those who have their TV set in a brightly lid area? best price i've been quoted so far is $2300 from Good Guys, but there's a VIP sale tomorrow (cost price + GST) - might check it out and see what's the best price they can give

On the weekends is the only time we watch it during the day and I usually draw the blinds in the living room and dining room because its too reflective. Watching a blu-ray movie at night with the lights out and its amazing black levels and PQ makes up for it though
diesel
I notice quite a bit of motion blur when playing games that scroll the whole screen around on the WII. I also noticed this with my DVD player - it has a bouncing logo that looks quite blurry and when you do something it stops (and looks to go sharp) and then the logo dissapears (which is normal as it's a screen saver!).I am running the picture through an Onkyo 875 amp and sending it via HDMI. I have intelligent frame creation (or whatever it's called) turned OFF. How do you have the DVD and Games device connectted to the AVR - via HDMI or component or composite? Generally there shouldn't be any blurriness created from those sources as long and the connections are good, and the content is good. Poor content will look poor, no matter how much upscaling you do. slewis69au
Hi Diesel, I have all components hooked to the AVR as component and then brought to the TV as component. I have tried using component straight through with no upscaling as well and the blur is still there. Let me be clear here, it's not a MAJOR blur but it is noticable. Apart from IFC could any other settings on the TV be impacting this.
diesel
I suspect that because your DVD and games sources aren't top quality (ie 576i (DVD) or 720p (Games)) that there is some blurriness to rescale the imags to 1080 lines of resolution. I could be wrong...just taking a punt.
shauno_gc
$2350 from JB Gold Coast no extras just the TV by itself. The Pioneer Kuro was 3990 and they wouldnt budge on that price. But really happy with the 800A.
slewis69au
Thanks for your replies so far. I've also tried using scaling on the AVR - component into the AVR, HDMI 1080p out. This actually looks better picture wise but the blur is still there. You're probably right - some motion blur on the scaling isn't unreasonable. I was just wondering if any settings on the TV could be contributing to it other than IFC.
GP11
I'm about to do a deal on a Pana 50pz800a tomorrow, and I noticed this specific thread for the 800a. I see in the early pages July-Aug a main gripe was the motion blurring of fast moving objects.. ie., on a long pan the AFL football would get lost between frames. Is this still a problem, or has there been a fix..( firmware/tinkering) From the reviews I have read the 800a comes up trumps on all aspects of viewing. I look forward to comments from actual 800a owners. Thanks guys

GP11
Easy fix. Just turn IFC off. Mentioned in this and other threads.Graeme Thanks Graeme.. Yes, I have read that turning the IFC off would fix the problem. The reason I raised this here is I had noticed during my speed read of this thread ( pages 9,10,14 etc) that when the IFC was off it didn't neccessarliy fix the problem. As I'm upgrading from my 42"Hitachi 8900 plasma, which is great for fast moving sport, to a new Pana 50" I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask the question. I actually tested this in a store a couple of hours ago and it definitely fixes the problem. It is really quite bad when it is turned on; didn't they test it on sport? If I hadn't known about this from here I would have just walked away from the set.
ald
Hi All, I have a 42 inch 800A and was wondering if anyone else is having the same problem with it. Namely when a HDMI input is plugged in the TV will not receive digital channels. Unplug the HDMI and power cycle the TV and it receives digital channels again. This fault was confirmed to me by the company that came to look at my aerial setup, although neither Panasonic or their recommended repairer seemed to be aware of this and simply advised that the tuner module was faulty (they replaced it to no avail). Hopefully someone else out there has heard of / experienced this and knows of a fix?

Drizt
About to take delivery on one of these beauties. What cable do I need for digital output from tv to onkyo 605 ? http://www.ezyhd.com.au/EZYHD-Shop/ I run one myself on the same tv, brilliant. Its a digital connection, as long as the cable is well constructed and meets the specification it makes no difference.

Grrrrr
I have a top-end videocard and because I'm planning to use it as a massive monitor for twitch gaming, I'm wondering if it's possible to address the 100Hz with a HDMI input, so as to get the TV to display at a refresh rate of 100?Has anyone had any success? People have said no - but here's why: 1080p100 would require lots of bandwidth. Once you need more bandwidth than 1080p60, DVI starts to become different to HDMI. Your video card uses Dual-Link DVI to communicate to your computer monitor at higher rates/resolutions. Dual-link HDMI cables exist - it's connector type B (29 pins.) I think almost everything HDMI however uses connector type A - single-link (19 pins.) To confuse things more: DVI allows a maximum of only 165MHz bandwidth on single-link, but HDMI 1.3 is good for 340MHz on a single link. Dual-Link DVI is allowed to do more than 165MHz per link (no maximum.) So in theory, if you had a video card that did a non-standard DVI of more than 165MHz single-link, the HDMI cable could carry it to the TV .. which probably isn't capable of displaying any input other than 24, 50 or 60Hz anyway! bpratt
Has anyone had any problems with audio through HDMI ?? I got a cheap Samsung dvd player with my 800a, and had a HDMI cable come with it, and initially I was able to get audio via HDMI, but now I can not. I initially thought it was just the cheap player, but I've since put my PS3 on to it and still get no audio. TV and analog audio is fine, just no audio via HDMI. I haven't had any problems with HDMI or IFC....it's all smooth sailing for me so I'm very happy with this TV!

In answer to your question above, prices rises are already making themselves evident, I bought a 50"PZ800A from them for $2685 about 5 weeks ago, their 4 year extended warranty is a bit high at $429 but all told it came to $3114 without delivery. I picked up the plasma myself from the store. I think the real bargains are now over with only a few units still in stock anywhere, I have just checked back at 'The Electric Discounter" and the plasma is still available at $2685 as a 'super special' but don't wait too long before deciding otherwise stocks will dry up through demand. http://www.theelectricdiscounter.com.au/as...ns/default1.asp C.M typo's Edited December 20, 2008 by Tweet

Sniff around and order before Jan 1 I would say.
