Usually they have a high retail price then the vouchers bring it in line with other retailers, then you managed another 10%. Total 25% off well done damm good price. It was a 50" wasn't it? Yeah 50" one. The retail was $2999 I think and the other 10% off was an employee discount type arrangement I'm eligible for (though I dont work for Myer). Haha, looks like this store didn't even read their own vouchers. Also having access to a discount card, I went into a store the other day with said voucher and the staff pointed out that the 10/75 doesn't apply to prices in their latest electrical catalogue (it's printed on the voucher) but can be used in conjunction with their regular price of $3299, which with both discounts would have brought it to ~$2580, still not a bad price, but not as good as yours. tezz1503562756 Posted November 5, 2008 Share Posted November 5, 2008 I recieved my 50pz800A a few days ago, when I opened the box the TV didn't have the full sheet of glass on the front, I thought I may have got the wrong model as WOW had the 850 with full glass and I saw one in Harvey Norman with full glass also, it may not have been the 800 as I thought it was. Anyway In picture set up I set to theatre mode for a darkend room as the THX setting was deleted for the Australian model, my room is painted a dark colour with dark carpet and black drapes, for critical viewing you dont want reflections or refected light even light from the screen reflecting on walls and back onto the screen, this set up increases the dynamic range of the picture further, and it is stunning Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I understand switching IFC is a big consideration, but it seems the opinion is slightly divided - it helps but doesn't fix the problem; others say it fixes the motion issues; they are still there? Any more insight into this after sustained use? I'm thinking of buying the 42" 800A but this is pretty much the only thing holding me back. What is the ballpark figure $$ for the 42"? Cheers! gravey Posted November 6, 2008 Share Posted November 6, 2008 Hergs, I've had a 42 800A for a couple of months, I watch a lot of AFL and this screen was the best performer (in my eyes) in my price range. However IFC must be off! IFC on makes AFL look very poor! I digress a little but when I was shopping around I wanted to see as many screens playing AFL as possible, pretty much decided on this or a Sony LCD and was doing a shop around the "Box pushers", but still auditioning screens, at one when I asked what it was like with AFL, I was simply told to come back Saturday followed by the representative just walking away. Finished up buying from a specialist (the same day), paid the premium price, but I am still extremely grateful of the advice and the time the rep took to match me to the screen that suited me best. A wierd thing I noticed while watching the Melbourne Cup was when the mobile camera was in use the railing posts oscillated across the screen but when I consciously followed them from one side of the screen to the other they were well defined with a surprisingly little amount of blurring, the effect was almost like being in the camera car and changing focus from the horses to the rail posts. I thought it very impressive, but that's my opinion. (I also think I read somewhere that the eyes see what the brain wants them to see) As far as I'm concerned this is a great screen, I'm sure there are better but this one suits me just fine. Just out of interest, what Sony's were you looking at?] When I was looking at both the Sonys and Panasonics, I found the plasmas have more of a cinema look, realistic but grainier and the LCD seemed smoother but computer graphicy. (I was watching Casino Royale in blu ray when I made decision) I went with plasma because it seemed more natural but in reality probably felt like of my old CRT TV and was cheaper. Funny thing was that I was sure that 100hz was the way to go for sport, but now in my opinion 100Hz seems to create more issues than it resolves with fast moving objects. I am led to understand that IFC is a similar process to 100Hz. I was up to very late in my decision making set on a LCD as this new screen was replacing an old 32in Acer LCD, which I was more than happy with and also a certain (misplaced) paranoia about plasma burn in. When I was looking at both the Sonys and Panasonics, I found the plasmas have more of a cinema look, realistic but grainier and the LCD seemed smoother but computer graphicy. (I was watching Casino Royale in blu ray when I made decision) I went with plasma because it seemed more natural but in reality probably felt like of my old CRT TV and was cheaper Must admit I had similar thoughts about the plasma, to me more natural appearing with almost a 3D feel, the guys I bought 800A from spent a lot of time doing side by side comparisons with HD recordings off an IQ2 and (from memory) a BD player. IFC is seperate process from 100Hz, though is essentially the same concept (computing extra frames) IMO It is a bit of a gimmick still, 100Hz is not. Hard to avoid paying for it on better quality HD TV's anyway. On sport Having a much bigger TV I can clearly see the lack of bandwidth on HD channels so pixilation (like when you zoom in real close on a computer image) is constant on fast moving sport (just check the background on any sport showing in shop and you will see the pixilation) so IMO making the TV buying decision on sport (which is rarely HD) is moot at this stage of digital TV broadcasting. Now if you have bluray it is the bomb, but that aint sport. Not possible, 100Hz TV’s do not accept 100Hz input, the highest input is 60Hz. Screen refresh rate and input video frame rate are independent. Now for sound I bought a lead from jaycar for less than $5 its is a 3.5mm stereo plug to red and white rca plugs You may already have one one from a digital camera or something Just run it out of Headphone jack on laptop to AV2 red and white RCA inputs on Panny, It says in manual and is stamped on plug panel on back which red and white RCA's to use if PC is attached. "PC audio via AV2" Then adjust sound output on laptop so correct volume is heard on Panny, then use remote as normal. I use this lead all the time when staying in Hotels to listen to laptop or mp3 player music through TV speakers Let us know you are all sorted. zephon Posted December 1, 2008 Share Posted December 1, 2008 Heres an update...My customer called Harvey Norman, and the took a new unit out to his house. With the HN guy still there, they scanned it in and got 10/10 on all channels and everything was good! My customer then went out and upon return, there was NOTHING, the same as you robbrissy! He rang HN who said they had got his old unit on test and were receiving all channels fine (not sure I believe them but thats what they said) So now it looks like, if HN was telling the truth, there may be a problem with the antenna system, we are thinking that maybe these new displays do not like to STRONG a signal so we are going to try and attenuate the signal down below 66dB (which is Aus Standard minimum req.). if this fixes the problem, I will let you know. I did some running in with the pictures via SD but not a whole lot. I notice quite a bit of motion blur when playing games that scroll the whole screen around on the WII. I also noticed this with my DVD player - it has a bouncing logo that looks quite blurry and when you do something it stops (and looks to go sharp) and then the logo dissapears (which is normal as it's a screen saver!). I am running the picture through an Onkyo 875 amp and sending it via HDMI. I have intelligent frame creation (or whatever it's called) turned OFF. Maybe it's just my eyes being fussy, maybe it will look better after the set has 100 hours or so up but I just thought I'd ask!! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
