NB: make sure you change green in custom colour space to 0 38 0, instead of 33 38 0

the hdtvtest were suggested here before, but they made the image too yellow. with this change it looks awesom

is there any difference between the 5 & 6 series 32"? and do you think i could pick up a 5 series 32" for $1,000?

I want to know this as well. Originally, I took it as a given that the Series 6 would have better PQ than Series 5, but looking at the specs, this only seems to apply to the 40/46/52-inch models, and the 32" Series 6 appears to have the same dynamic contrast ratio (15,000:1) as the series 5, with the only improvements being in the Touch of Colour bezel, InfoLink, and the number of HDMI ports (from 3 to 4), none of which I have any interest in, at least not enough to pay more for. If that's the case, I'd prefer to get the Series 5 32", or if I get an unexpectedly well-paying new job, the Series 6 40".

Hey Rags,

Are you still about? Which Myer store did you get it at that price? The store and the name of the staff member you got the deal from would be helpfull.

Or are you just stiring the "I got a bargain" pot?

Thanks

There's quite a lot of blacklight leakage on the 52" series 6 on mine.

Anyone can see on their's? Look at the picture in a solid blackground and you'll see it.

I went on a scounting mission today at the various electrical retailers across Sydney looking at the 40" and 46" 6 Series Samsungs. Here are my observations/ questions:

- Why do many of the stores insist on pumping through relayed sdtv through these lovely 1080p sets. It does them no justice...

- At two of the 20 stores i visited today (from Castle Hill to Auburn to Prospect), sales assistants would not hook up a blueray player for me to see the performance of said tv, insisting that i was "time consuming " and that "customers will play with the players if we have them out"

- None of the retailers have any info regarding the FoxtelHD/BlueRay deal

- The black levels on the 6 Series Samsung are on par if not better than the Kuro - they are outstanding

- The only small inkling stopping me from buying the set (apart from said announcement) relative sharpness of a 1080p signal. Unlike most I like noisy/grainy images because they appear more sharper. I saw an F series Samsung playing Spiderman 3 (crap movie, great transfer) - it was experienceing some major issues with processing the signal (every 4-5 seconds it sort of slow-mo for a quarter of a second), but it was super sharp. In my limited play with the 6 Series I couldn't get it looking as sharp - but I was just playing with turning the 100hz signal on/off and the 24p on and off.

-The best price I got was from Harvey Norman in Prospect/Seven Hills was for the 6 Series 46" $2750

Thats is a great price considering the warranty RAGGS. I would appreciate a receipt too if not too much trouble (weatherhead at gmail dot com)

Can anyone read the fine print on the foxtel HD+ deal?

I 'll have a go...

Inlcudes installation (cant read the next bit). First 3 months free of a 24 month subscription

Not sure what first word is maybe Includes LCD Series 5&6 40" and above, Full HD plasmas

Not sure how accurate that is....

My $0.02 -

I had a look at the 4,5 and 6 series LCDs and also the plasmas over the weekend. This was at stores in Sydney's Eastern suburbs and some of them had BluRay players hooked up to the TVs playing demo loops.

The A650 LCD image is extremely sharp and the clarity is great. Black levels are better than most other LCDs currently on the market. This may be partially because Sony still has last year's models. Overall, the TV is a winner and indicates that Sony's new range should be excellent too (because of panel sharing).

The same can't be said about the A550, which is a replacement for the N8 series. Sure, it's better than the N8 but the A650 is in a different league. The 4-series LCDs are just replacements for the R8 plain-HD models and perform adequately but nothing to write home about.

On the plasmas -

There are two models in the 4-series plasma range, the A410 and A450. The A410 is very much a rebadged C91 and there's no perceptible difference between the two. The A450 is somewhat better than the Q91 it replaces. Didn't try out the much-touted 3D stuff because none of the stores had it. The A650 LCD had a better picture than the A450 plasma. Hopefully, the 6-series plasmas should be better.

Samsung boosts its iQ with landmark FOXTEL HD+ Promo

Deluxe promotion brings HD experience to more Australians

SYDNEY, JULY 1, 2008 - Get ready to experience the true power of High Definition (HD) with the launch of a new promotional partnership by Samsung and FOXTEL. During July, customers who purchase selected Samsung Series 5 and 6 LCD Televisions can choose a bonus FOXTEL HD+ offer (includes full installation of the FOXTEL iQ2 set-top-unit and three months subscription to the FOXTEL HD+ service) or a top of the range Samsung BD1500 Blu-ray player.

This clever investment by Australia's largest HD content producer and highest selling Full HD Television manufacturer is being looked on by those in the industry as the biggest HD deal to date. In line with this, Samsung and FOXTEL have decided to extend the bonus FOXTEL HD+ offer across August as well.

"HD is the future and this exciting consumer promotion comes at a time when FOXTEL HD+ is brand new. Never before has so much HD content been available so we jumped at the opportunity to bring this partnership to life. We want to help consumers unlock the real potential of their HD TVs. Being able to record and playback your upcoming TV memories in HD is a very attractive proposition - especially with key sporting events airing in the coming months," said Kurt Jovais, Director of Marketing - Samsung Electronics.

"Samsung also wanted to provide consumers with a choice. How often do you watch TV? Do you want the ultimate viewing experience anytime you watch TV using FOXTEL HD+ or do you prefer to sit around the big screen enjoying movie nights on the Blu-ray player? Customers know what they want and this promotion is about listening to those demands," continued Jovais.

In another commitment to this strong partnership, Samsung's sponsorship of the top of the ladder Sydney Roosters will be modified for the month of July. The Samsung naming rights on the back of the Rooster's jersey will be altered to include a reference to FOXTEL HD+.

"This is a fantastic promotion that will give consumers buying selected Samsung HD LCD TVs the opportunity to experience the full benefits of HD television through the FOXTEL HD+ service and the FOXTEL iQ2," FOXTEL Executive Director of Content, Product Development and Delivery, Patrick Delany, said.

"This promotion is the start of a significant strategic alliance between FOXTEL and Samsung to lift the bar in awareness of HD television and the rich HD offering the FOXTEL HD+ service delivers consumers."

The FOXTEL HD+ service was officially launched on June 22 and provides a wide choice of 24/7 HD programming by featuring some of the biggest subscription television brands - BBC HD, Discovery HD, National Geographic Channel HD, FOX SPORTS HD and ESPN HD. Australian television premiere blockbuster movies are also available to watch instantly through the FOXTEL BOX OFFICE HD On Demand service.

This exclusive offer will be promoted in store and through retail channels with a highly visual display of the HD capabilities and promotion that Samsung is providing through use of the FOXTEL iQ2 set-top-unit and FOXTEL HD+ programming.

Samsung product has also been integrated into all FOXTEL HD+ advertising, promotions, training and informational materials, in addition to the FOXTEL HD microsite www.foxtel.com.au/hd and featuring at FOXTEL kiosks with the "FOXTEL HD+ recommends Samsung" tag line on key elements.

Promotion details:

· In July - consumers who purchase any Samsung full HD Series 5 and 6 40 inch and above LCD TV will choose three months of the FOXTEL HD+ service including the FOXTEL iQ2 set-top-unit and installation* for free or a Samsung BD1500 Blu-ray player.

· In August - consumers who purchase any Samsung full HD Series 5 and 6 46 inch and above LCD TV will be eligible for three months of the FOXTEL HD+ service including the FOXTEL iQ2 set-top-unit and installation* for free.

*Existing FOXTEL Subscribers who purchase a select Samsung HD LCD TV will be offered a free FOXTEL HD+ Upgrade (valued at $200) and three months of the HD Complete Package and the FOXTEL iQ2 Service Fee for free. During this period, subscribers must subscribe and pay for the Get Started Package, My Sport and one of the My Escape, My World or My Playtime packages (total minimum cost $218.55). Agree with this - 550 looked almost like an N series right down to blacks ... gave the impression LCDs are getting dimishing returns on the tech.

Having said that Im really considering the 550 as a decent cheapish low glare screen, specially with all the "dimming" and "sparkels" problems people are having in the US with the 4000 sonys. Esp if $1600 with a free BD player is doable.

Someone said there would be a 680 samsung which I was hoping would be a matt 650 but I dont think its gona happen.

Grrrrrrrrrrrr,

Why did i have to buy a 40 inch 650 as soon as i saw one? What a kick in the balls for being first in.

What do you think the chances are of them offering the free bluray player to people who bought in June or the chances of applying for it anyway?

None.

But you could talk to your retailer - maybe arrange a 'return' and repurchase this week?
