Freak 0
another review from CNET Edit: Thanks first Aussie review I have seen. But i now think with the 46" Samsung 6 Series at Sub-$2800 already on release, the LG 50 and 100hz are overpriced. Edited June 5, 2008 by Freak

Pleasure Paulie 0
Blueback 47" is not cheap - http://www.theelectricdiscounter.com.au/as...=LCD+Television
Freak 0
Blueback 47" is not cheap - http://www.theelectricdiscounter.com.au/as...=LCD+Television Yeah an extra grand for the LG with almost the exact same specs, and slightly older with a design that will likely not please some, I think LG need to adjust their price now.. LG Likely knew this when they launched it before the 6 series. You can almost get the 47" 50hz for the same price as 46" 100hz Samsung. Don't get me wrong the LG is a nice set, but I'm not sure i could pay an extra 1K for a blue back..... Edited June 5, 2008 by Freak
kulfi 0
Don't get me wrong the LG is a nice set, but I'm not sure i could pay an extra 1K for a blue back..... We could buy a can of paint from Bunnings and make the TV any colour we want for under $50 ! Flourescent yellow or nail polish pink anyone ? What has LG got that makes the Scarlet or Blue-back worth buying that the others don't offer at a lower price ?

SuFz 0
They're very similar spec wise.. A few $100 cheaper though.. I guess it's the 'appeal' of the scarlet range that they're aiming for. Not only that, but the 100hz Blue Scarlet range will be the Super Slim range. SuFz

Desbert1 0
Hi I'm currently based in the Middle East but will be returning to Perth in the next two weeks. They have just launched the LG Scarlett (32 inch) here for roughly AUD $1100. How does that compare to the prices in perth and who would be a good retailer to contact on this. Any advice or suggestions appreciated Cheers

Yeah, the blueback is this one - http://au.lge.com/products/model/detail/tv..._42lg61yd.jhtml If you aren't a fan of the scarlet range in general, there is also the LG70YD which im talking to SuFz about. These from what we can assume have similar specs to the blueback, but a typical design. We are not sure when they will be available though. LG actually have a backlog of orders and are struggling to keep up! The 70 series is supposedly set to drop end of this month, which is very hopeful! I'd be looking to July to be getting all the LG models. The blueback scarlet was available through 1st round orders, which were very limited. They didn't send ours - which kinda 'stooged' us. But all is well, the are coming soon (Hopefully!) SuFz

Threw on "The Transporter" BluRay and she comes up a treat! Definitely a goer! It's basically a blue backed, thinner version of the 50hz model. Pleasure Paulie 0
There really does not seem to be much talk about the new LG tv's compared to the Samsung 6! Maybe not many people have them.
Renegade1970 0
is it really worth the extra cash to get the 61 100Hz model or will the 50hz 60 model be good enough i watch a bit of football and soccer so will the 60FD do the job for me? i'm only going to be running foxtel standard definition at this stage through the TV. is the footy ok watching it on SD? cheers
SuFz 0
The 61 is a phenomenal looking unit - I would stick with the 61 and push towards that! It's not about fitting whats in your budget now.. It's about future proofing yourself! You don't wanna buy something now, thats not going to meet your needs at a later stage. Even if it takes you an extra 6 months, so be it! Wait that 6 months and keep that extra cash aside for the quicker unit. SuFz
Pleasure Paulie 0
I was reading somewhere else also that 100hz can be good for sport - if that's what u want to use it for.
Renegade1970 0
I had a few sales people warn me against buying an LCd Tv from LG. They did not stock LG themselves but i had also heard from a tv repairman that LG have the most comebacks he comes accross. this may not be the case now as the units in question had 1 year warranties but does anyone else know much abnout this? this panel sounds great and is good value for money for $1900 . Renegade1970 0
if i'm planning on watching a lot of fox sports in standard definition (cable conection) will the 60 Fd do the job for me or should i get the 100HZ 61 series to get smoother viewing? $500 is the difference between the 2 at the moment ($1900/2400) this is the most important decision for me as i watch fox sports and espn which make up 90% of my viewing. . LG used to have the most comebacks - But that's because they sold phenomenal amounts of there product! Fair enough they were new to the industry still walking along their learning curve. But now, they're creating the curve for other manufacturers to learn from! Now.. The LCDs have 3 year warranties and with their smaller appliances eg. DVD Players, Recorders, they provide an in home service! SuFz

I get the feeling if LG products were really that bad they wouldn't be sold at all... But the reason for so many returns is the amount of sales..... If LG are the biggest manufacturer of electrical goods in the world, there is a high likely hood that they will also have the highest level of faults on those items. It's just maths..... In all likely hood Sony do likely get less returns, of course they likely sell about 1/5th of the amount of electrical items worldwide. I'm not saying LG are the best quality gear around, they aren't..... They are just one of the standard large consumer level product makers around. But i would be looking at the features, specs and price, and be worrying less about the name. 3 Year Warranty, is fairly standard.. I used to sell Acer Monitors many years back, used to come back 3 times often as any other monitor we sold, Normally this would be a worry... Of course we sold about 30:1 Acer to Sony, So on averages of items sold It was the Trinitrons made in either Mexico or China that came back for repair or replacement more often than not..... So we would get 5 faulty Acers to 1 faulty Sony, the difference is we would of only sold 1x Sony to get 1x Sony faulty, meanwhile there were at least 25 Acers still working without issue for somebody...
