Tell us how it goes :) I was turned off by some reviews

Yeah I also read some of the reviews below before deciding:

http://whathifi.com/television/archive/200...let-lcd-tv.aspx

http://smarthouse.com.au/Reviews/TVs_And_L...isplay/B3R4F3B8

But at the end I chose to buy it after seeing it with my own eyes and comparing it next to other panels, there is no particular aspect that stands out for better or for worse compared to others. My other options were the 100Mhz Samsung LCD panels, but it seems more people turn that off than on anyway. And I was also waiting for the new 7 series LCD from Samsung, but couldn't wait and had to get a panel and I'm happy :)

edit: By the way I didn't find any motion issues with sport and other fast scenes as mentioned in the reviews, just some pixelation, but traced that back to the source after comparing it with other panels at the same time.

The specs look good. I've had two LG 68cm TVs in the past and was quite happy with them. LG's recent debacles did make me worry and hence I bought the Sammy but there was another reason too.

What is the hole in the bottom centre of the panel is supposed to be for ? If there is any one design feature that will put off potential buyers, this is it. There is way, way too much black plastic at the bottom of the panel, then they're drilled a great big hole in it and lit it up. Yuck !

To those who are OK with the hole and want the Scarlet, I'd suggest waiting another 3 to 4 weeks till the Samsung TVs come out and the price of the LG drops having been on the market for a while.

looks like a porno hole :/ I was at JB and turned the TV off by accident by sticking my finger in there, the salesman spent 5 minutes trying to turn it back on, looked like he was fingering it ffs...

and the plastic just looked cheap :/

other than that I quite like the styling with the chrome/red etc.

How is it for playing games?

actually very nice. bluray/ps3 looks great on the tv. ive set it to just scan, but to be honest i didnt notice any overscan in the first place. has good black level detail which really helps in gta4 and gt5. ive not noticed any motion blur either. 4ms refresh shouldnt see blurring anyway.

ive calibrated it now, and i'm very happy with its performance. just check what options are on in the advanced menus and turn most of them off!

Do you mind sharing your advanced settings? ;) I mainly watch my DVDs and HD movies in cinema mode and it's great! Troy HD looked fantastic last night.

If you've changed your expert settings, I'd like to know that too if you don't mind :)

lol, you don't turn it on and off by fingering it :P you just touch the chrome bit inside the hole.

the only issue ive found with my set so far has been some speaker crackling when watching movies with a highesh volume setting. i've got the panasonic ex87 connected via hdmi when playing dvds, but i think it also occurred with Troy on DVB-T last night. and i usually set the sound mode to cinema too when watching movies.

edit: I played the same DVD that gave me the crackling sounds and this time it was fine.

How bad does the red hole stand out? very bright? while trying to watch the tv :)

when watching tv, it goes white and doesn't interfere with line of sight, it goes dim red when on standby. these settings can be changed to be off all the time.

lg have changed the features of the 60fd. they've taken away the 24 real cinema feaure and now it is on the 61/65 series instead. is this legal? i had an archived version of the website and it had 24 real cinema there. very dodgy! the 100hz i dont care about really.

i think you/they mean the 24fps framerate for 1080p movies? which it does have, just not the 100Mhz thing known as 'truemotion' or 'realmotion' on their 65 series.

no i did mean the "24 real cinema" as i wrote. the website had it in its(60fd)) list of features, with a small paragraph further down the same page explaining it. now those bits are in the 61/65 series page.

if u take a look in the other thread about these tv's on page 2 currently(11.30pm 29/5-adel) the first few posts discuss this.

hopefully its just a web maintenance thing and the feature i though i was getting is there!

I just saw the 42lg61yd today.

It is remarkably thin! Have never seen a lcd so thin before. Also it has 24p cinema mode and 100hz. It has a crystaly blue back and chrome shiny base stand.

Fantastic picture.

Does seem stupid to have a Blue and Red model, when the LG Range is known as "Scarlet"..

I would of expected both models to actually be "Scarlet" I think the blue already looks a little bit dated.

But personally I'm looking at either Scarlet 50hz or 100hz or Samsung 50Hz/100Hz

with a Panasonic 50" Plasma 100Hz as the outside chance. I would like to compare them side by side.

Looking to spend around $1600 - $2600 (cheaper the better)

Is 100Hz really worth an extra 1k?

yeah I noticed the changes on the website too, oh well, I'm still happy with my 50Mhz and non-24-real-cinema panel :)
