Sharp Aquos D83 Series

Recommended Posts

Just bought myself a LC42D83x and a BDHP20X.

I have a HD CRT before... and i could say.. this is a good move!

Excellent PQ, refresh rate ...

just need to play around with the settings a bit as the colour not seems too right for me.

Rsense, mind telling me what model of HD Crt you have upgraded from? I'm also in the market for an LCD upgrade and currently own a Panasonic HD Crt and keen to find something that will give me a noticeable upgrade from the already decent picture quality of that.

thanks

I've had a 42D83X for about a month now. Great picture if you are dead in front of it but concerned with the apparent wash out of colours at any viewing angle greater than about 45 degrees. Anyone else experienced this? Never noticed that issue with any previous sets (other brands).

That's interesting. I too, would like to know if anyone else has angle viewing issues, even with other brands...or is just the Sharp LCDs?

Cheers, Monty.

I don't get that with my 3yr Sharp.

Hard to review them in stores since they all still seem to have the older ones on display.

I had a look at a few LCD's yesterday, and specifically looked at this "issue". With the Bravia's (X-model) I couldn't see any difference, under a very wide angle (approx. 80 degrees). They only had the older Sharp model on display, and it was hardly noticeable at all, but screen looked slightly more "discoloured" than the Bravia under the same angle. They both had HD TV running. I didn't have a change to check out the other screens.

I am very interested in this point, since I've heard (and seen!) this before... What would be the recommended maximum viewing angle for plasma's and lcd's? Anybody an idea?

i have the lc46d83x and don't have any issues with viewing angle.

but why would you want to watch tv at more than say 60 deg anyway?

I looked at sony, samsung, philips and heaps of others actually for a long time and i was sold on the sony until a guy in a specialist hi fi shop who don't even sell sharp told me about the new 83 series and i had a look and i changed my mind as soon as i saw it.

very natural picture and some of my mates have seen it and they thought it was a plasma until i told them it was an lcd.

the panels come out of there own new plant in japan and they supply to loewe also.

3 year warranty to which is good compared to 1 year with sony.

I have been watching the cricket on it and it looks great, motion is excellent with 4ms refresh rate and 100hz to.

anyone purchase the 52" version ? would lilke some feedback and price points. :D

Spied one of these at Clive Peeters Mt Druitt NSW last night. WOW, looked the goods...

Showing bluray demo disc (from 2006 I think). Noticed in Ice Age 2, scene of white glacier, blue sky and the little furry creature with his acorn thing, banding through the blues. Not too offputting and may have been a result of first gen pana bluray outputting at 60hz instead of 24hz.

Went back later with a couple of my bluray discs...looked a little ordinary, had a play around with the sharpness setting (set to max for some reason) and image was then very good. Input was signalled via OSD as 60hz which i presume is all the pana player can do..bit of jerkiness but otherwise looked very good.

Only installed yesterday morning and certainly not setup the way it should be. Love to see one set up properly, reckon it would be sensational.

Phoned sharp this morning to clarify warranty situation re banding. Youngster had never heard of banding blah blah. Described it and he kindasorta got it. Their first course of action would be to confirm it was the panel not the source. I suspect this would be their view not the purchasers. If not source he considers banding would be a warrantable defect.

Also asked where else I could view these latest panels...the 52" he thinks, is currenlty exclusive to Clive Peeters and also comes with a sharp bd player (via redemption). CP qoted $5999 but this was quite clearly negotiable.

cheers

I'm after the 52" as well but haven't been able to find one on display in Sydney (city). Actually haven't even found smaller ones for the same generation. Pretty crap really. They are all happy to order one for me but nothing to show right now.

Been shown $5100 without any pushing from Bing Lee and this was when they had the previous gen display on 'SALE' for $6k!

Given 46-47" LCD's are going for low to mid $3k's I can't justify over $5k for 5 more inches but at the same time not willing to go smaller...

When i was looking for mine i rang alot of places and they all said they would get them in mid jan.

They are trying to get rid of the old model first.

I think i was a bit lucky getting my 46" for the price i got it at.

Yeah but $5k+ is still too much difference from say mid $3.5k

I won't be buying until the end of the month so fingers crossed...they still giving the free bluray player away? Anyone know?

For what its worth i was in HN Thomastown yesterday poking around at tv's as i will be upgrading to a 46-50" mid year. Asked the sales guy what his opinions were of the current crop of 46" lcd's. He poo poo'd the Sony's, saying they were over rated. Said the Samsung F series were out of stock due to a ault in the tuner. When asked what his recommendation's were, he said either Panasonic or Sharp. Ive liked the look of the Sharp's for a while now. Certainly one of the 3 that have caught my eye along with the Sony and Samsung. Will be a tough decision when the time comes to making a choice. The only thing that turns me off the Sony is the 1 year warranty. Kinda doesnt instill confidence in me when a company only offers 12 months when most around them offer 3 years.

I got my 46" for 3160.00 so surely the 52 can't be $2000.00 more can it?

I have one already, its like as soon as i take it out of the box, and check for dead pixels with dead pixel buddy there bloody there.

i can believe that i have already gone through 5 sharps lc46pd7x and all of them have had dead pixels.

im going to HN todayto so it to them, because the Sharp rep has advised em that they have sold thousands of these tvs and i am the only person to come back so many times.

Thus i am considering of upgrading to the new model, but do not want to take the same risk...

This review snuck up on me. I don't really know "Smarthouse" so not sure how well they test screens. It appears the Pio Kuro rules the roost, however for LCD they liked the Sharp 52".

http://www.smarthouse.com.au/Best_Of_Best_...Vision/C9M8L4F9

Odd reviews really, the 52" Sharp can win for LCD over 50" and the 46" can't get a 2nd place for TV's under 50"...

As for pricing, I agree $2000 for 6" (must resist temptation to type obvious joke) is interesting. For what is worth my brother has found a set in Clive Peteers for $4800. I would have thought a fair and reasonable price for a 52" (and if the 46" is $3160 - $68 per inch)) would be around the $4200 or 20% per inch more than the 46" - I do not understand why the cost to build a 52" is so much more -no flames please this is an opinion..

As for the free BD, well its not a free manufacturer giveaway like the Sony PS3. It is a deal struck by the retailer and Sharp Australia. Basically they buy the BD's cheaply and then bundle them in to make them appear like a bundle.

This is why you will see in some of the earlier posts prices with and without the BD. My advice is to haggle like hell on the screen and pick up the BD you want.

I have searched google for days trying to find pro reviews of the Sharp LC-52d83x and found only http://www.smarthouse.com.au who indeed gives a glowing review of this model. Can I believe their review is not biased in some way?

I'm itching to purchase but that $4800 price surely cant have been for this TV with a RRP $7099 and released just in recent weeks? If so, is there a problem such as banding? Has anyone actually purchased this model yet? Would really appreciate any feedback on it.

It was released quite a while ago, Sep or Oct but took a long time to show up on shop floors because they were trying to shift old stock. You could order them for a long time.

Before Dec I got show $5100 without haggling.
