[eoi] - Samsung 50" P9 Group Buy

Recommended Posts

I had a similar problem getting JB and Harvey Norman to match the $2811 receipt that I had. JB flat out refused and told me to go to Myer instead (the receipt I had was from them) and Harvey Norman said they best they could do was $3300.

So I went to a couple of Myer stores and both said they would match the $2811 price (inc. delivery) provided I take out at least 1 year of extra warranty for $189. Bringing the total price up to $3k. This was in Adelaide by the way.

I ordered mine yesterday and should hopefully have it tomorrow.

Is there like a life timer on the P9?

So that I can see how long the unit has been running for? I want to be cautious within the first 200 hours for burn in.

don't have an answer, but would like to know too :)

Receipt Sent. Sorry, haven't come back here for a while.

The price actually is $2537 + $189 + $35 and I used the $20 Myer voucher(got it when I applied Myer Card) so the total should be $2761, not the $2741 on the receipt....

thank you :)

I would have figured this is a common feature in all TV's much like a mobile phones life/hour counter.

Another question.

With those who have received their plasmas, was the screen meant to come attached with the plastic protective film, like when you buy a new LCD computer monitor, laptop etc?

Mine did not come with a plastic film over the screen, and with some scratches on the housing, and finger prints on the actual screen, I am paranoid whether what I received is brand new or not?

Wow, how on earth did u get this price. Your are sure you are not buying from a friend working in Myer?? LOL :)

I went to 2 myers 3+ weeks ago and both told me they can't sell me at 3k, eventhough I use a receipt from another myer from this forum.

I think Myer is the most inconsistent pricing shop among all.

Ok i finally did it the 50" P9 is mine, well once it gets delivered the next toy will be a PVR of some sort which will be a while off (or the after christmas sales if another bargain like this comes around) in all the excitement and whilst reading though the online maunal i realised the antenna cable is sold separately doh! i dont have an antenna cable for it, i just moved into a new house and appear to have digital ready outlets or so the antenna guy said.

Ill try to get a picture but i have never come across this and i checked my old tv antenna cable and it doesnt fit so what is it? googling has come up with many different answers which are just adding to my confusion.

I also have another question easing the plasma through the first 100-200 hours how and what do i do? is it just no static images for >2 hours like the manual says or what?

Any help appreciated.

Edit I now know my wall sockets are f-type connectors so will i still need an adaptor to connect to the P9 if so which one will give the best results?

After faxing through the redemption email + invoice, do we get some kind of confirmation of receipt etc?

i emailed them, and received a confirmation email back saying they had received all my paperwork, and are processing :)

Yeh doesn't this suck? For a tv that retails for around 4 grand and they cant supply you with a cable. I was gob smacked when I opened the packet, what tight asses!

If you're in Melb, Myer city store had stock a couple of days ago at least.

And will price match or come close to...

P

I tried the Myer Melbourne city store this afternoon with a couple of JB receipts from this forum (P9 for $2811 + ext warranty or surge protector).

They wouldn't match the price, "way under cost.....", implied the receipts were fakes.

Also tried JB city store. The bloke went off to check with the boss. Ten minutes later he came back to say that they'd had an email from head office about "these internet receipts" and they couldn't sell at that price. He even advised me not to try taking these receipts into any other JB stores!

It all seems so inconsistent, depending on the store, the day and the sales person. However I'm still going to keep trying.....If anyone has recently bought at under $3k in Melbourne could you please advise of the specific store and the salesman's name? And if anyone has the Myer receipt I'd really appreciate that too.

Thanks guys. Really appreciate your help.

You guys that are after new P9's, just trace back this thread, go to the shops where the guys bought them from and get them from there. Seems the simplest option. Me, Im looking now for some "cool" stuff to connect to the beast. To wet your appetites, shrek 1 in dvd format looks amazing, and my player is only upscaling to 720P,. so will be even better when I get it to go to 1080p!

I haven't found it that straighforward. Often two potential buyers seem to get different results at the same store depending on the salesperson they deal with. A previous poster said Myer Melbourne had stock and would price match but I found they wouldn't. But maybe if I knew the right salesperson to talk to....

Like most others, I tried myer in melbourne city and JB out here in nunawading and both baulked at sub 3k prices, showing the $2811 receipt as a reference. Myer didn't give me a best offer price, but JB said they couldn't do under 3.3k. I pointed out there were advertised offers < 3.2k but didn't register. Oh well, will wait and see what early january turns up :)

Hey Guys,

I finally managed to pick one up today (well put one on order). I tried 2 JB stores and they said the price was "impossible" as they would be losing $500+ , I also tried a HN, Domayne, Good Guys, Retravision and Bing Lee and they all said the lowest they could possibly do was $3350. I then called my local Myer (Erina Store) and they had no problem price matching and they said it would be ready for pickup around Jan 10th. I also called many stores in the Hornsby and Chatswood region and even up around newcastle and no-one could match the price.

So that $2811 + $189 for extended warranty.

Thanks for everyone's help!

it's a tale of two city's in this thread.

some people getting them for < $3k, others being told to walk.

overall, i paid $3k with +1 year warranty, delivered when i wanted it, so i'm pretty happy. maybe i paid a few hunderd more than i could have, but i got my screen when i wanted, and will definitely get a free LCD.

this thread has proven more popular than i thought it would!

cheers guys

I've just bought mine from Myer Garden City, Perth for $2811 (after extensive bargaining) on Tuesday and got it delivered on Thursday. Didn't bother with the extended warranty as they wanted to charge me an extra 240 for just one year. I've read that samsung is reasonably reliable (being in the top 3 brands for plasma reliability) with repair rates of only approx 3% a year. In general, found it pretty difficult to get the P91 for that price in Perth... must be the lack of competition here! Good luck to those still looking :D

been to Myer city, HN, and two JB HIFI in melbourne, asked them to do price match they just ask me to walk, wont sell it at that price, they know about the receipt thats been circulating and said it was a price mistake they make and was told by management they could not sell at that price ever again!

Oh well i guess that i'm still $3k richer.

Looks like a few of you in melb. can't get the 3k price too.

I thought I was the only one who can't get this deal even with a receipt 3+ weeks ago.

The sales person did offer me 3123 2+1 warranty inclusive delivery.

But settled for a pana. PZ.

Hi Kelvin, did you end up dealing with Jonathon or did you speak to one of the other guy's. I don't know what was going on with the extended warranty, if you look at the price list hanging off the cash register it is only $189 for a 1 year extended warranty on a Plasma under $3000. But anyway pleased they came to the party. Now enjoy.

Hi Fast700c,

yeah I did go through Jonathon. He mentioned that he couldn't give me exactly the same deal with the warranty but I'm not fussed about it anyway. Its a fantastic tv, really enjoying it :) Thanks for your advice

Massive props to the people sending out the receipts!!!! Armed with the JB $2811 receipt today I went around a few stores in southside Brisbane. Good Guys Hyperdome reckoned they couldn't possibly do any better than $3400 for the TV only. Myer Hyperdome wouldn't budge past $3300 for the TV.

Walked into JB Hifi Hyperdome though and after just a moment's hesitation as they saw the price, they agreed to do the TV for $2811. I bought additional warranty which may have influenced their decision.

So yeah, Brisbane people, try JB Hifi at Logan Hyperdome! PM me if you want details on the guy I dealt with.

Yep great job to everyone sending out the receipts, except I have been unlucky and haven't got one yet.

Orbitor if you would be so kind and send me one I would be very appreciative so I don't look like a clown who keeps asking for one.

Any one having problems with the fax number where you send the paperwork?

I have tried on 3 different fax machines and it takes over 20 minutes for it to get a failed transmission.

Hi guys I have been a longtime lurker of this thread. The best I was able to get so far is 3250 for the tv at Harvey Norman at QV at Melbourne.

Could anyone send me some receipts under 3k? Are you all paying cash? (I assume so)
