my q relates to the motion blur and sharpness issues i'm having with my la52a650a when playing the wii. i've just moved the wii from a sony kdl46z4500 lcd which suffered none of these issues, at this stage it's very frustrating as the pq is terrible. is there any specific gaming settings that i need to adhere too with the sammy. any suggestions would be grately appreciated.

When I started this thread some 2 years ago I was one of the first to receive the new F-Series LCD....

So I thought I should provide one last update...

Well, I am no longer the owner of the F-series as it died and the part for repair was unavailable...

So it was swapped over for a newer model....

That is all...

Hi i have had my F81 for almost 2 years and it has been flawless up until now.I watch Fox Classics a lot as i like old shows but have black bars down each side of the screen 4.3.I have noticed a burn in line half way down the screen on the left hand side from the top when watching full screen, the line is where the black bar ends and picture begins. Is there a dvd that can fix this problem.

Hi,

I am not sure about your screen burn in, maybe you can search the forums for some info.

The only product I am aware of is Pixel Protector. Google this and read about it as it apparently helps fix screen burn in...

Thanks i will give it a try.

All you have is image retention, spend a day or two watching 16 x 9 programs and it will vanish.

You might want to look at your contrast and brightness settings as they could be high.

I use a 550 as a monitor, its on for 8 hrs a day maybe more and it has no image retention.

LCD image persistance is a memory effect of the liquid crystals. It's not as permenent as phosphor burn in a CRT display, but if you continue to watch 4:3 displayed programmes it's unlikely to correct itself. I'd think that removing the effect on a television LCD would be harder than on a computer LCD simply because it's not as easy to invoke preventative measures on a TV display.

I've had my F81 for about 20 months now. Its been flawless till this month.

The TV takes about 2 minutes to start up and display a picture on the panel.

This happens especially if the TV has not been switched on for a period of more than 2-3 hours.

There's a lot of clicking noises at the back of the TV for about 2 minutes and thats when it decides to start up.

However, say I switch on the TV now and switch it off... and start it again in about 5 minutes time, then it doesn't take time to start up.

Its almost like the TV is warming up if it hasn't started for a while.

Anyone else had any issue like this? Gotta call up warranty soon !

Within a few minutes the components haven't cooled down and the capacitors haven't drained their storage. Start the warranty process ASAP!

I'm not very confident that we will see many of these LCD TV's running in 20-30 years time as could be reasonably expected with many of the old CRT televisions. I guess its got a lot to do with the increased complexity of the newer TV's as well as component quality control.

Call on your warranty now... What you are explaining as happening is just the start, the time it takes to turn on will get longer and longer and all you will hear is the clicking sound until it turns on and then one day it just won't turn on... I remember specifically reading this problem on the US Forum, Trust me on this... Call on your warranty ASAP...

Hi guys,

my sp61l2h has a dark patch in the centre of the screen.

it can be yellowish at times.

see attached photo. I presume its the optical engine but im not 100% sure.

anyone know how to fix this?

can't see the attachment, but if the screen is yellow Im 99% sure the blue polariser has burnt out.

Hi GLO,

It looks like the polariser. The colour of the patch will depend on the colour the TV is projecting. Bring up a picture with a white background and it will be yellow for sure.

The P/N for the polariser is BP96-01256A. That's what the Samsung literature says too... BUT: These TVs supposedly came out with 2 types of optical engines. One engine (the Epson) can use the BP96-01256A as a replacement, but the other (the Ricoh) cannot. I have spoken to plenty of repair guys and none have ever seen a 61" with the Epson engine. They seem to be in the 56" from what I have seen. So how do you then fix the Ricoh engine? Well, you can't (kind of). You can only replace the whole engine, which costs ~$3000. If you call Samsung and get dirty with them they may offer a replacement engine for ~$1000, but will then force you to pay another $400 to get a proper technician to install it.

What i would do is this: Pull apart the TV, remove the engine and see which one it is. I've done mine a few times and it's easy. If it's the Epson go and find the BP96-01256A polariser which is around $140. If it isn't you can either get the engine replaced, serviced for $750 by some mob in Vic (I think Mick's electronics from memory), or for a similar price by Specialised Electronics in Liverpool. The only way to properly identify the engine is to remove the back lower part of the TV and take photos of the engine, I can compare it to mine and let you know which one it is.

I don't know exactly how these guys fix the polariser issue because NO ONE can get them anymore. I have a feeling they're stockpiling them from other busted 61" TVs on eBay and re-using 2nd hand parts. I know guys who have tried to use polarisers from other TVs, home made ones from polariser films, swapping the Red/Green/Blue ones around, and told none of this works.

When my polariser went I got Specialised Electronics to service the engine, no idea where they got the new polariser from, he wouldn't tell me. Either way I've had the TV for around a year now and it's still 100%. When this polariser goes (yep, when, not if) I'll probably give up and replace it altogether.

Thanks,

Impakt

Hi Impakt,

I have fixed the links.

What a blue polarizer cost? Do you have a part number?

Cheers

Hey Impakt I have gone though must of this forum only to find out the bad news that I have the same yellow effect on my SP61L2HX TV. It started about 5 months ago but I could never see it and denied it was there but now we moved it is now noticable to me. I thought that it must be the globe that needs replacing but from what you are saying it much more then that.

I was wondering what your outcome was in the end in getting it repaired did you still fork out $1500 because if thats the case I will just get a new TV I think. I got this TV about 5 years ago and had it in for repair once in which they replaced the globe but I paid $7000 for this TV its a lot of money. Its now around 6 months out of warranty should I ring samsung and tell em off like you did?.

Cheers Talon

The standard samsung warranty is 12 months. My TV was just on 4 years old when i tried and as you know they weren't interested. If you have a 5 year warranty, then it's an extended warranty through a third company, no idea how nice they are if you want to make a claim outside of the 5 years. If only you made the claim with the yellowing within the 5 years!

Anyway, I found a repairer in Sydney who was able to fix it, no idea how. I suspect he is stockpiling polarisers from old 2nd hand TVs. The guy I used was Specialised Electronics near Liverpool. I got it fixed around March this year and the TV is still OK. No doubt it will go again, it's just a matter of when.. If you give up on the TV though let me know, I wouldn't mind picking up one cheap for spare parts in case something else goes wrong with mine, as I can't afford a new TV at the moment..

How much did you pay to get it fixed mate would like to know because am in the same boat as you can't afford a new one yet and its still a good tv and big! ;-).

I will take it to Sydney if its worth it OOPS Soz dude I read your last post and noticed you said it cost around 750 from that Specialised Electronics company is it what you paid?

Oh btw when I enter the service menu I have a menu item 9. L3E7050K (Epson). Dose this mean I have the Epson polarizer engine?

PPS: My lamp life is now 1150Hrs is that long or has it still got some time left just wondering if this should be replaced also?

Also check this out http://www.bbs-bildsysteme.com/Epson_Brochure07.pdf dose this mean anything to you?

Yeah from memory I paid around $700, best to call and ask though. Even though the service menu says Epson I don't think it can be used as a way of identifying the engine. The only way is to pull apart the TV and take photos of the engine inside.

That Epson PDF link you posted contains a completely different polariser to the one you need. Don't get your hopes up with the Epson engine either, I am yet to see any 61" tvs that have it.

I have had a Sammy SP56L5HX since July 2004 and have had no problems with it until today. Was watching a show recorded on the TiVo and lost the picture. The screen is a whitish static. I now get the same screen on all other inputs (DVD & Xbox) - not even the normal blue screen & the no signal message. I can still display the TV's menu and make selections but I cannot get a signal from any of the inputs.

I turned the TV off disconnected power for 5 minutes, pulled out & reconnected cables at the back and still have the same issue.

Has any body else experienced this issue or have any ideas?

I will contact a service centre tomorrow but I don't want to spend a lot of cash on it to get it fixed as I would rather put it towards a new TV

I had that same problem too, it was the digital board which (in typical samsung fashion) isn't available anymore. You'll be up for a whole new main board. No idea on cost though, best to call a technician.

Thanks for the info Impakt, I have organised for a service technician to come out and have a look at it on Tuesday - fingers crossed that it is not too expensive or takes too long to repair. It is very hard going back to watching a TV that is less than a quarter of the Sammy's screen real estate.
