Samsung TV Owners & Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

So after a bit more searching over the weekend (last week I was complaining about some rather outrageous pricing in my area on this thread) I just brought home an LA46A650 (and the Panny BD35), bought it from the Good Guys for $2745 i've seen better pricing throughout this thread but it was the best I found locally so i'm pretty happy especially since this is my first upgrade from CRT.

The most amusing thing I found was while paying for it the cashier said "one LCD TV and a Blu Ray Player...whatever that is"

Advertising in the paper today has the 40" LA40A550 for $1499... perhaps that's what you saw? 46" for $1499 is a pretty crazy price.

My MIL is looking at a 40" Sammy and was quoted $1450 for a 40" screen from Good Guys on the Central Coast today. She 'thinks' it was the Full HD model which means it's probably the LA40A550.

I normally don't lurk around the Sammy threads, but as this is the screen she likes, does $1450 sound like a fair price? She's keen to buy by the weekend.

Also, does this screen have a matte or gloss finish?

Appreciate the feedback.

I am pretty sure it's 46" because I saw it myself and wrote down the code LA46A550.

However I didn't ask if it was ex display or not.

It's the Good Guys at O'Connor Perth. The phone number is (08)9331-7433. I went there last Saturday (7/2).

Leighaus, are you happy with the picture quality?

That screen has a matte finish, and I picked up a LA46A550 for $1745 at Binglee yesterday ( they have them ticketed for $1799) so maybe she could do a bit better. Or pay a bit extra for the 46".

Sorry to revive an old thread, I have the 42Q91 just wondering does the panel accept 1080P/24?

What is the native res it accepts? 720P or 1080i?

Not sure what to set my Toshiba EP-10 HD DVD player to. either 1080i or 720P etc

Cheers,

K.

I am having problems forcing 1080P in-game on my ps3. It will not let me unselect 576P as a resolution in the configuration menu. No problems displaying 1080P whilst not in-game, but as soon as I start a game instead of staying at 1080P it defaults to 576P because of the fact that it wont let me unselect it.

Any ideas on what I can do to fix this? The TV is still running the original firmware it shipped with at the beginning of 2008.

  • 2 weeks later...

Argh this tv (f8 46inch) keeps dissapointing me.

1st I knew before I purchased that the glass was not non-reflective but I still got it(silly I know)

2nd I can't re-organise the channels

but now I finally have a chance to hook my dvd hdd recorder to it so I cant watch it PIP WTF??.

My old samsung 32 inch had a non-reflectice screen

I could re-organise the channels and when I would play the Xbox360 I would choose the dvd hdd recorder as an external device and watch it through PIP at the same time. and listen to it though the stereo which is good when you're in a lobby with boring basterds.

All things I will be checking the next time I buy.

Soooo,

After having 4 DOA 46" F81s at first, I now have had to send my 46" F81 (#5) in to the service shop.

On Sunday a black line the width of the screen suddenly appeared, about 3" from the top of the screen with faint echoses 1 and 2" above and below the line.

On Monday I called Samsung, very efficiently they gave me a case number and referred me to my local service centre.

The service centre says it wouldn't have been long before the whole thing went.

I took the Set in today, and they're going to look at it and order whatever replacement parts they need. They suspect the panel will need to be replaced.

:(

I miss my telly! And I still love the picture!

The TiVo is funny on a 20" 4:3 TV ;)

I have a 3+1 year warranty, beginning to wish I had a 5 year :-\

Oh Well, if it doesn't last the more than 4 years, at least I will be able to justify an upgrade to LED backlighting, or whatever is hot then :)

I updated my LA40A550 with a recently (wasn't there a month ago) released v1013 firmare from Samsungs website (http://tinyurl.com/ahyylw), the menus feel a little bit snappier but I may be imagining it, does anyone know what else this firmware may have changed relative to the old v1007 that my TV shipped with?

Enjoying the TV regardless :)

When I first got this TV and when using the remote I had to press 0-9-0 to get Channel 9 HD or 0-7-0 to get Channel 7 HD, however, now for some reason if I press 0-9-0 the goes to Channel 0, then Channel 9, then Channel 0 again!

I can't figure out how to get the remote back to the original 0-9-0 behaviour, anybody got any ideas what I need to do to get back to he original behaviour for the remote?

Thanks,

Gary

Hi,

I have a Samsung (SP-61L2HX) 61" Rear Projection television, and I'm experiencing problems with it.

After the tele has been on for about half an hour or so, for some reason it changes up a channel automatically.

I originally thought it was the remote, but i took the batteries out of the remote and it still happens. Then i thought it was the channel up button on the television itself, but i took of the cover an unplugged the television control panel, but it still happened. I was wondering if you could diagnose the problem from the information i have given you and able to find a resolution.

Thanks from Tyson

Hi Tyson,

I have the same Samsung unit and am having the same problem of channel jumping and also the unit often turns itself off and on.

I have taken the projector light bulb cover off and carefully placed it back correctly. Still same problem occurs.

Anyone have an answer to this problem?

Regards

John

John,

This is a common issue. The problem is on the mainboard, so playing with the lamp cover won't make a difference. The good news (from what i'm told) is that the individual parts required to fix this are very common (a few capacitors), so fixing isn't an issue (unlike the aforementioned blue polariser issues).

Where are you located? I know repairers in Sydney (Specialised Electronics, in the phone book) and Adelaide (Telefix SA) who can help.

Thanks,

Impakt

I bought a couple days ago the 52A650.

I think I got a very good deal: $1800 US dollars (about 2700 australians dollars) payable with 3 equal payments from ending April 2009 to ending July.

Now Im testing but at least HD cable is great
