charlie26
hi guys just bought a 42"pz700 and picking it up tomorrow. can anyone tell me what sort of settings i need to run it on to start with and for how long? is it in the instructions or do i just need to turn brightness and contrast down? should i not be watching letterboxed dvds for a certain amount of time or is it ok as long as i don't do it for too long? Can't wait for tomorrow!!!
irsharp
You need to set your Foxtel picture setting to 'YUV' not RGB. The scart lead must be out of the socket with a TV symbol not the tape symble stamped on the foxtel box. Appreciate the reply - I have discovered via the Foxtel digital part of this forum that I have a Foxtel set top box that doesn't do component video or optical digital sound - it lists YUV but it is greyed out - so I dont know why the box has a scart output or why a supposedly digital service cant output component digital video and audio. I have tried phoning Foxtel for 3 days to try and get a box that will output the optimum video/audio, but I cant get past the automated answer service that informs me that they are too busy and to phone back tomorrow - what a wonderful service!!! If you want to get hold of someone at foxtel call their sales line someone always answers and then ask to be transferred to someone who can help you with questions on replacement boxes. Foxtel doesn't look to crash hot on YUV anyway. ive got IQ and i find it poor pitcure quality.

12BHD
Panasonic PZ700 1080p owners thread. Hi All, Finally I made the decision and got a 50" PZ700. It was a tough decision for me. I have been staring at the TV countless times at the shops trying to like it. Under shop lighting PZ700 looks very unconvincing. I think people at the shop were caught up with the idea of its matte/anti glare screen. Therefore many shops I been too , they proudly put the PZ under bright lighting condition. While other plasma brands they put in under dimmer location in the shop. As we all know plasma doesn't look good under shop lightings. My conclusion is as follows: Pros: DVD using my Sony upscaling DVD player through HDMI is VERY Impressive. I thought I was watching blue-ray. Due to the matte screen, if you watch it under good lighting condition, the picture is very easy on the eyes (you can watch DVD all day. LOL!). Picture are Clean and Crisp. Really was very surprise by how good DVD is on this T.V. I can postpone buying a blueray/hd-dvd now until the war is over. Jpeg slideshow through the SD card slot is amazing. I attribute this to the extra pixels of a FULL HD TV. The quality of the Jpeg pic on the TV is as if you are looking at a frame photo. So much better than the panasonic PX600 I tried last year. Foxtel (using composite connection) - is crappy in my eyes, maybe its only me because I was comparing to how good it look in DVD. But as we all know Foxtel looks crappy on any FULL HD TV. FTA- No comments since I watch FTA through Foxtel. Will install a TV antenna soon. Heat - Compare to Samsung P9, Pana. heat dispersion is so much better. The 3 fans behind is blowing out hot air. Therefore the TV inside doesn't get very hot compare to samsung P9. The 3 fans are very quiet. Buzzing - No problem here. Unless you intend to put your ear right next to the rear of the unit all day long. Black - The blacks are quite good, second only to Kuro. It still look good even when I watch in the dark. Cons: Matte screen under bright lighting - Why on earth pana. decided to do a anti glare screen, it does not work!! This only encourages shop people to put your plasma under bright lighting and the blacks look all wash out!! This causes many people not to buy your plasma because it look so crap under shop conditions. If you are buying this TV and your intention to put it under bright places in your home it will work as BAD as buying a non anti-glare plasma screen. Some might say worst, since the blacks become greyish. In the end I would say this is the 2nd best T.V after the 50" 1080p Kuro. hehehe With a street price of half of the kuro best price, its a sure buy. Any other owners of PZ700 care to give their comments. G'day Panny 1080p owners, Am about to acquire my first plasma soon and still deciding whether to get the std HD 42" PX8A or the Full HD PZ800A. Since it's gonna be the first and probably will stay for a while (like 5 years or so), would it be worth it to get the Full HD or 8A is fine since it's a 42" anyway and I've been reading a lot of discussion that Full HD on 42" would be a waste of money since you can hardly notice the difference. It will be mostly use for watching dvd, fta and also loves sports (especially F1).

INASNT
Managed finally to get hold of somebody at Foxtel. She really had no idea what I was talking about couldn't seem to get past the fact that I didn't want to get Foxtel HD. Call centre people have NFI about anything. U aont gonna get any proper digital signal from the normal foxtel box. The HD box with the 4 or 5 channels in HD is a rip off also.
wdave
50" pz700 Has anyone with the 50" noticed that Nine HD has lip sync problem? Nine SD with same program is fine. I'm in Perth metro area and have an external antenna, Nine HD signal quality is 10, strength is 9 according to the built in DVB info. This is with sound playing directly from the TV speakers and surround options turned off. Could it be antenna? Or faulty built in DVB? firmware? cabling? any ideas would help
YellowFever
Hi fellow PZ700A owners ... I have the 50" model, it's 18 mths old. Yesterday I started noticing a pale yellow rectangle, approx 40 x 15 cm, extending from the top, middle of the screen down. The yellow was more noticable when reds were being displayed, less when blue/green was on the screen. The rectangle has appeared intermittently, on all inputs - including the internal tuner. Not too sure yet, but it may fade / disappear the longer the screen is turned on ... need to test this. I plan to call the extended warranty people tommorrow ... just wondering if anyone else has experienced this fault and what the outcome was? Regards, Carl
diesel
Has anyone with the 50" noticed that Nine HD has lip sync problem? Nine SD with same program is fine.I'm in Perth metro area Perth seems to get more lip sync issue reports than other states from what I can glean from reading the forums. In Sydney, HD is more susceptible to lip sync issues, but in my experience, it's the broadcasters and not the TV/antenna etc. I plan to call the extended warranty people tommorrow ... just wondering if anyone else has experienced this fault and what the outcome was? Let us know how you go. Sounds like something needs replacing.
YellowFever
Let us know how you go. Sounds like something needs replacing. apparently something doesn't need replacing !?! The service rep came this morning and simply said "we'll have to take it away". I said no, I'm watching the footy tonight and I thought you guys said this was an "in home" service? So he gave me a bit of masking tape and asked me to place it on the rear of the screen in line with the yellow rectangle next time it appears. I've got to call him back then and apparently we are going to turn the unit around and "adjust something" I reconfirmed with him that no electronics needed to be replaced. So, a mystery. What's he going to do? When I showed the couple of pictures I've taken of the fault he sounded like he'd seen it before ... a problem with "columns" or something I think he said. YellowFever
Just needs a little fine tunin' then, hey??? ok ... got the screen serviced today if you haven't seen the back off an HD plasma you can probably imagine it's a complex bit of equipment. The screen is actually made up of multiple elements (which is what the technician was refering to as columns. These elements are rectangular - and guess what? - exacty the size of the yellow rectangle I was describing as a fault. In the HD panels there are 2 rows of them - top and bottom. So, all the technician did was to insert a few shims (thin bits of plastic) under the ribbon cable connector to the element (column) in question and give it a bit of a tightening. Apparently not a Panasonic fix, but one he picked up from Hitachi. So, hopefully no further problems. And just one other thing - apparently there ARE confirmed reliability differences between the Japenese and Chinese assembled models - which we probably had guessed anyway. Sort of ironic in my case as mine was assembled in Japan ...
