Pioneer Pdp-lx508a Best Price

Recommended Posts

Rockingham West Coast Hi-Fi

Both 50" and 60" are displayed side by side, playing same source. The 50" displayed a lot of over excited pixels on leading edge of explosions during HD Casino Royale, behaving like sparkling diamonds, whilst the 60" was perfect. Salesman said it was caused from a bad HDMI splitter. Sounds a bit wierd as I asked to replay the same scene and it was reproduced identically. It may be so, just did not appear to be a transmission error.

Tag on lx508a was $8600(or something similar) marked down to $7,999. Within a minute of the salesman talking to me he conceded by his own admission that he believed the prices had recently dropped. I eventually asked him what they were now selling for. He replied $6,400ish (was not carrying a pen). I asked if that was the best he could offer, which he responded with "I can offer a better price if your buying today". I really dislike being pushed so counted with "Only if you can beat $5,300 from the East." He said to go with that, as I thought he would. Truthfully only went in to the store to see if they had a Sony XBR or X display near the LX508A, which they did, but the Sony had a Pixar film on.

Whats the lowest documentable price to go to David Jones with at the moment?

Voodoo Rob

I paid for my LX508A today at Rick Hart, paid $5300 on Visa. I have already sent scans to some of the guys that had emailed me on my isp email account. I have no problems with people trying to use it to get retailers to match. The rep at Rick Hart in Joondalup was "very unhappy" with me, well I would use other words, he did not agree with me being able to get the plasma through their Osborne Park branch so cheap. Taking the bread off their tables I guess.

To top it, I also called ShopRite about some 3 meter Panasonic Gold High Speed HDMI cables (listed over $100, but on "special" for $99, yeah right) they sold them to me for $60 each, so I picked up three. I would have tried Foxtails, but he is off for another week or so, and my plasma has arrived ready for installation next week. I also thought that with these cables I should guarantee a good connection too (rated at 10.2 GB per second, no doubt they all are).

Good luck all.

Mark

This is a fair point.

If you don't plan on watching blu-ray or hd-dvd, then I think a 508XDA is a better choice.

I dont think any channel has plans (including Foxtel HD in a few months) to broadcast 1080p. Expect 1080i or 720p

Someone else will have to explain (Owen??) if you are missing out on much with 1080i signals, considering the 508XDA is a '720p' resolution tv (so to speak)

Ozboy. I am the same as you. I watch mostly FTA, Foxtel and DVD's. Chanel 10 and 7 now broadcast in 1980 x 1080i, so having a Full HD TV means on these shows you are seeing it dot for dot with no scaling etc. There are plenty of TV shows on full HD now and with my current Hitachi plasma I can tell the difference after 10 and 7 have gone to full HD, so I would imagine with a full HD TV they will look a little better. I am not much of a AFL fan, however the full HD broadcasts looked stunning.

If you can afford the Full HD pricer sticker on the Pio, I would certainly go for it as I can't wait to see how full HD FTA looks in the lounge room. Eventually I'll get a HD source but in no hurry.

On special now at Kmart, the 3 meter Madcatz HDMI cable for $29.95 (regular $39.95). It's also compatible with the PS3.

Here's how it looks like.

hi turntable

could i also get a copy of the receipt sent to me, was about to go the panasonic but i think i can justify the extra 2000 for the pio now the gap has reduced a little.

email : matthew_mcdonald at bigpond dot com

Thanks in advance

Mac

Yea I was in the same boat. FIrst I wanted the Hitachi as a/ it is so cheap and b/ I all ready have the excellent 42 inch 8900. The reality is that the Hitachi was a bit off the pace as far as PQ goes. Samy looked a little yellow and saturated in colour. Pany was excellent however I could not get below $3500 or $6500 for the 58. The pany for some strange reason has little in the way of claibration options, where the pio has a little better PQ, lots more calibration functions, direct input access, full 24hz and lots of user functions and 5 year warranty.

I like you can now justify the extra $1700 or so.

receipt emailed - good luck

Thanks Nova, but I am happy getting a high spec 3 metre cable for $60, I am also happy with the Pioneer LX 50 inch at $5300, I could have got a cheaper 50 inch made by AWA I am sure. I just was not going to pay the $250 for the "top of the line" HDMI from the installers, I drive a Subaru Outback, it is not a Rolls Royce, but it is not a DAEWOO either.

My HDMI cables will work with PS3 too, but I will not need it for that, I will work in the Toshiba blue ray just fine. Enjoy your new Madcatz.

Keep smiling, and thanks to all the helpful advice I found here, I am very happy with the results using assistance from this forum. I now have the LX, a Yamaha RX-3800 and a Topfield at prices way below what I could have done without the assistance of you all.

Thanks again to you all

Hello.

It would seem that a few people are managing to get the LX508 now for $5199 thanks to Digital Centre and some willing stores to price match.

So anyone else who is out there looking, download the Digital Centre price and take that with you - it is proving to be a great bargaining tool.

Have been keenly following this thread, but just wondering about great the Digital Centre price... if Pioneer hold the stock and do the delivery and installation, why don't people buy from Digital Centre? Sounds easier than taking their price and haggling with someone else.

After you buy, the retailer's not involved, right?

LX508A

Tried a few stores in Perth.

MYERS

$5,500 before even mentioning price matching. Could not meet $5,199, even with reciept. Did not try to push as he said there was not much movement at all.

David Jones

$6k+ before price matching. Happy to meet on the $5,550 prices. Would only do $5,199 if they were in the east (where the reciept was originated)

A few more David Jones in state to test.

Hi,

Just joined this forum as I would like some independent advice. I am sure that someone can help...

1. My screen to eye distance is 3.5m. Some say that 42" is tops or will I be OK with the 50"?

2. Love the look of the LX508A. I have Fox IQ Cable and mainly watch FTA and DVD's. My main requirement is to have a superior experience whilst watching Soccer on Fox. Thus is it worth going with the higher res, contrast ratio and the 100Hz mode?

thanks in advance...

Well Boys

Considering the number of receipt copies I have sent out in the last 24 hours Pio should be picking up some extra sales, even if the retailers are not making any money. $5400 is dealer cost, before the Pio rebate if the retailer makes his targets. Some of the stores not willing to budge might be more helpful towards the end of the mnth if they are close to their rebate targets.

Anyway, Mine was delivered today, so after work I did my "self install" The stand and speakers a bit IKEA like in that you need to build a bit.

Tuning is simple and PQ out of the box is great!! after I took the picture off dynamic and back to standard. My Hitachi 42 inch has been looking great, howver the Pio is on another planet - after watching the HD FTA movies tonight . Even foxtel windies vs SA cricket looks OK.

This TV would hjave to be one of the best on the planet and so glad I did not go pany or samsung.

All the best in everyone getting the best price they can, hopefully my receipt will help.

cheers

I have 50" frrom ~3m and after the first two weeks got used to the size (after stepping up from a 63cm CRT). A year later and it looks small. A 60-65" would look good at that distance now

Go the 508 IMO

Hi turntable, you must be sick of sending receipt copies by now but do you mind sending to me at andrej_11@optusnet.com.au

I was in Myers Adelaide today and their sale price ( incl 10% off) was $6749.10. Their best cash price offered to me today ( I wanted to buy 2) was $6300 so I need some ammo to get them down a little more.

Much appreciated.

Hi Turntable,

Can I join the the queue for your receipt too. Please email the receipt to nully@tpg.com.au

I want to upgrade 506 to LX508@1080p.

I am wondering what are the reactions and thoughts from GB1 and GB2 about these low prices. Are these prices better than what you guys are paying for? Buying 100+ would surely got the best wholesale price from the dealer.

Comments from GB1 and GB2 buyers will be very interesting. Better late than never.

Regards

David

Hey Guys

I have emailed all the receipts to those who have asked.

I wil be offline and on holidays for the next 10 days or so. If anyone else asks, can one of the other's who all ready has a copy of the receipt please do the right thing and email it.

BTW - This proce is about 17.5% lower than the GB price. But all the GB's are enjoying their TV's now.

I am sure that in another months time this price will be beaten as well. Such is life

have fun chasing down prices with all those nice retailers.

cheers

David Jones in Sydney city has a large banner/stand staying price match only applies to pricing in the same city/state I think?

However the branch at Bondi did not have that up and they price matched the Rick Hart receipt which is based in Perth.

Where is Digital Centre based? I have not loooked.

Alan
