Chuq
NP Chuq, glad it has gone almost without a hitch!Don't go upgrading componentry just yet - it is tempting considering the capabilities of your new TV, but as many others have said all over this forum, new and decent quality cables can make a big difference. I don't have any other device that uses HDMI either, however I can make use of optical digital for audio as well as component for video, so I have ordered appropriate cables for the DVD player, A/V Receiver and PS2 to get the most out of them. I'm currently using my Yamaha receiver to do video switching, and on my old TV I had a single composite (yellow) connection, and a single component (R, G, connection, so I have just transferred those over to the new TV for now as AV1 and AV2. I guess I could stop using the receiver for this if there will be a quality improvement, but I'm pretty happy with the quality as it stands. I'm currently running audio from the TV to my amp through RCA leads however, so that's one thing I need to upgrade! I will then take pics showing the difference between composite, s-video and component signals where I can by swapping the cables and post them up somewhere just so others can see the difference as well. It will be interesting to compare the results. My old TV (I talk about it a lot don't I.. not that I miss it ) had PiP (including P-beside-P) so I hooked up my DVD player using composite and component and played a DVD with the same image next to each other - one with each input format. It was noticably different, though quality was hard to discern when the picture was the equivalent of a 38cm TV. So my suggestion would be to take a look at both www.selbyacoustics.com.au and www.psraudio.com.au as I mentioned in a previous post. They have cables of varying quality and their prices are good. I ordered from PSR yesterday and they have emailed me already today to advise that my order has been dispatched, which means it will arrive tomorrow via epxress post!Cheers, Chris I saw a previous post of yours mentioning these stores so ordered a DVI-HDMI cable from PSR, forgot about getting the optical audio one though so will have to pay postage again.. I think I'll wait a couple of days in case i think of anything else!

Good move - I just picked up my PSR order from the post office and I can attest that the $9.95 Toslink cables look very good quality for the price, as does the $19.95 2m 3RCA cable. Tomorrow I will swap the cables over and take some before and after photos so I can appreciate the difference. I'll let you know how the optical cables perform compared to and RCA coax cable fom my DVD player to the amp. Cheers, Chris
JStar
Hey OzStick, it looks like you got a really good price on the TH-50px70a. I'm looking to buy one before Christmas and was wondering which retailer you got it from as I am also in Melbourne. I'm looking to buy it around 2400$ with extended warranty if possible. Do you think I could get it lower than that towards Christmas?. Also, do you think it would be cheaper to buy before or after Christmas? Originally, I planned to get the 42 inch but after seeing the bargains you guys got the 50 inch for I completely changed my mind. Cheers Edited December 13, 2007 by JStar

Cheers HI JStar, I doubt greatly that you'll achieve anything near $2400 for the 50PX70A WITH a warranty! Interestingly I've just seen at www.theelectricdiscounter.com.au that they have the 50PX70A for $2350, which as others who bought in the GB will attest is an unthinkable price. IMO you will NOT get a better price in the immediate future. Also, don't be seduced by the cost of the warranty - they all cover different things so you should be prepared to pay a little more for a GOOD warranty, which they do offer (they use OAMPS). My suggestion is to snap one up from them and try to haggle a bit on price. Cheers, Chris
JStar
Hey Chris, thanks for the reply. I remember you saying that your purchased one for 2400$ with extended warranty in a previous post. Even if I won't be able to get a price like that I would still like to know which retailer you bought it from if possible. JStar
Oh was it? My apologies for my mistake. I've changed my mind about purchasing the 50 inch and I think I'll go for the 42. How much do you think I could get that for? I'm looking at around $1,700-1,800 but that price seems pretty hard to achieve. As some people have said that there will be more bargains and the salesmen will be more likely to negotiate after Christmas I think I'll buy it after Christmas, or shouldn't I? JStar
I finally got my 50 inch today. 42 just looked soooo small compared to the 50 so I got the 50 instead. How much did you guys in the group buy pay for it, including the extended warranty and delivery. I got mine for $2800 with a HTIB valued at $549, I rekon thats a pretty good deal.
