Today Tonight Don't Buy Cheap Tv's

Recommended Posts

Did Anybody happen to see that story on Today Tonight last night about buying Cheap Plasma's and LCD's I felt pity for that poor DLP Rear Pro they dumped at the tip. I bet there is another reason why it blows its lamps so regular + it seems to destroy its lamp housing too. My friend has one and it looks Identical like the one they dumped at the tip and I can tell you this that my mates was popping globes too early and beside finding a kilo of dust in it the lamp cooling fan was just about to expire.

Now I have an LG LCoS Rear Pro 71 Inch Display and I have purchased a service manual for it and a lot of emphasis is put on the 3 cooling fans and replacement of the dust duct + If you want the lamp to have a long life, use the set correctly and NEVER shut the TV down from the front main switch as the correct cycle is you first shut it down via the hand control which shut the tv down but allows the 3 fans to do their job for the next 2 minutes and if needed they will restart again and perform a cycle. Now if you shut the Display at the main switch or the mains ( Like that ad on Channel 7 tells you to do to save the planet and don't leave your set on Standby) you rob it from doing its correct cycle thus you are killing the globe and possibly damaging the lamp housing because of continual excessive heat. We all know or I hope we do that your computer CPU + fan needs attention depending on how much use it gets to get rid of the dust blocking the fan and the heat sink and I can tell you this that its you own any display that have a fan in it it will require maintenance at least once a year or just before summer. In the last two weeks I have cleaned out two Rear pros one a DLP and another was the same as mine both were rotten and clogged with dust.

On another note another friend of mine had trouble with a good name plasma which stuffed itself twice in 6 months from new but I got suspicious as this house had a habit of blowing things up and I decide to check his Voltage at the mains and it hung around the 260V mark around load time just after dinner, I never got to check it at around 10PM at night when the load is off, heaven forbid it would have gone higher, see he has a 11KV/415V tranny outside his front that feeds the street in the bush and the neighbours down the bottom with plenty of air conditioners were complaining about a lower voltage because the street mains were too small so It was easy for the power supply company to set the tap up on the tranny to boost it just a little but with devastating consequences to anyone that lived close to the transformer. So for Today Tonight and others next time you have a problem please look outside the square because something or some one else might be responsible for the problem.

By the way, I thank the Big Warehouse in Canberra for getting the service manual.

well said, and thanx Blackman.

Note too folks that a lot of equipment we used in Australia is really meant for 220V (whether it says that on back panel or not), so running on 240v doesn't help. Recently modded power supply in my under rated Dreambox (sat receiver) and all is now well with it.

So when you look at it if its rated at 220V and you shove 260V in it you wonder why it dies, As for those magic Heeeeeeeeeee Dreambox's My 7000's were modded years ago when I had hard drives in both of them and are still happy today, As for all Satellite receiver 99% are rated at 220V and some cook themselves for some reason my Nokias although rated at 220V never over heated only if you modded the cam in them..

Sorry guys of Topic.

Shouldn't it be "Today Tonight, don't buy into cheap TV" or I would say "Tabloid Turkeys, I don't buy into there bullshit!" :D

Eh, I'll read this thread later, maybe it's not half bad a story.

EDIT: OK read the thread. Those stories they do on electronics is usually like American beer, watered down shite.

Any device "meant for 220V" is obviously designed to take standard voltage fluctuations (ie 220-240). Devices running "at 240" isn't going to make a difference whatsoever and certainly isn't going to contribute to an early death.

Also just as Australia has officially transitioned from 240 to 230V (most people don't even know this), many 220V nations are transitioning to (or have transitioned to) EU standard 230V.

Do you have any reference links to support this?

Regards,

Ian.

If you check your voltage at different points around the house (GPOs),you will find that it can get upto 250V.

Even though its a difference of 30V,it shouldnt bother your Rectifier in you TV.

lets see if I've got this straight

first it was, don't a cheap plasma... then, beware your plasma may explode and burn your house down, and finally.... Plasma & LCD TV's may be banned within 12months.

can't wait for the next informative installment

Not impressed with Kogan. I purchased a 19" LCD/PC in October 2006 and gave it as a present on Christmas day 2006. In November 2007, just outside of the 12 month warranty the screen developed vertical pink lines. Contacted Kogan who said:

bad luck can't help as outside warranty period and

cannot supply the parts required as the set is old technology.

I cannot recommend Kogan or their after sales service. Would not buy another one!!!! :angry2::angry:

Well i wouldn't call my LCD TV cheap, but the brand ain't well known.

Cost me $1000 only about a $100 cheaper then the Samsung.

I was going to get Samsung but the warranty for the one i bought cant be beat

Hisense looks great all my friends have them cause of warranty.

No problems for me and my friends and they have had them for about a year.

My brother has one.

Aussie brand up and coming,

I got it at JB hifi parramatta westfields NSW

and the lies they told me to get me to buy it WoW

first the USB port is for viewing pictures, lie!

2 week satisfaction guarantee,if i see cheaper they will give me the differnce back.Lie

cause i saw it 5 days later at same store for 30bucks off and when i told them...

he said he lied, but i left that store with money $30bucks back...boy did i give him crap!

and he told me some bullcrap''i tell you!''

Also said he had 2 in stock, then when i paid for it he said he just sold them.Bullsh#t!

Then he said they would have it in the morning.lie!

went to get refund at end of day and it came in Thank god!

It's Hisense 32inch with built in HD tuner 720p/1080i

3 hdmi ports,2 component ports,2 composite ports,1 VGA,SV 2 ports,PC sound imput,Fiber Optic 5.1 imput

really cool tv,looks great,plays great

On xbox 360 looks fantastic!movies everything,PC looks super clear.did not exspect that?

Heres warranty info

*3 year in-home replacement Warranty

*Priority replacement within 1 business day

*They Deliever,replace unpack and set-up

*24 hour,7 day customer support hotline

they bring a new one to your door, and fix your tv,if they cant fix it they will replace on the spot!

I rang to double check, very fast service'nice operator.guaranteed all was correct.

I payed extra $70 for extra extended 2 years,so all up 5years

3 years Hisense other 2 years with Lumly.

Samsung warranty was no where near as good as Hisense!

Ive bought big name brands to have them blow really fast.

Aussie brand up and coming,

I don't think they're an Aussie brand as such. There is an Aussie company but they're selling products from the main company I think.
