Has anyone bought this set yet? i saw it in the hardly normal newest catalogue....

Any owner care to share their experience..................

Cheers

No, if your talking about the Hitachi P50X01 which is a 1080p plasma its not released until later in the week.

I think it should be a great screen with the FRC feature. Im good friends with a guy at Harvey Norman in Brisbane and am looking for others keen to get a great group price on this model later in the week. RRP is $5999 but word out there is it should be close to $4700 -$4800. Anyone keen on getting one let me know and we can purchase as a group.

The catalogue was there for only a few days. It was as if they posted it early and then pulled it down. I just happened to stumble on it one night. Any way it was in there for $5499.

Saw Hitachi P50X01 the new 50" 1080P plasma yesterday at HN Chatswood. What a mess! I'm an avid Hitachi man currently 42" 1024 x1024 Bought when it was the best on the market. I want to UP to 50" and 1080P. This set was sitting among the 50" LCD's and it looked Sooo dismal. The sales guy had tried to match the brightness, sharpness and color to the displayed LCD's..Contrast and Brightness was UP to almost full. and the pic still looked really bad.. There is hopefully something terribly wrong with their setup because I have ultimate faith in this set and will pursue until I see it calibrated properly in a showroom... WE all know that LCD is generally BRIGHTER..and us Plasma people like a photographic pic, but this was truly bad, Enough to male one consider the new Samsung 53" 1080P LCD. A radical move ..like from film to digital photography...I appreciate any thoughts or experiences on the Hitachi

Dont pass on the Hitachi P50X01 just yet..I'm not..I'll wait till HN calibrate properly..Also the Clive P guys at Belrose say they've seen it and its great..They'll have it in 2 weeks they think. If Hitachi reps saw the HN Chatswood installation they'd withdraw the representation...It cant possible look so bad... keep me informed please of any good looking demos of this set.

I was very tempted to buy this one today at Harvey Norman in the Supacentre Moore Park.

Here is the spec sheet from Hitachi AU - P50X01AU Spec Sheet

Picture looked very nice with the demo video but dim compared to the LCDs all around. The dimness was extremely obvious when playing the same video loop as the other sets in the store.

Price was awesome, cash getting to around 4600.

Even still I am close to buying, I'd just like to get some feedback on testing it with content similar to what I would be viewing at home, which is digital FTA and Fox digital, not Blu-Ray yet :)

Also, guys in Harvey Norman Bondi Junction barely knew how to operate the thing and the best they could get on it was a crappy image from an internal antenna. Not sure how those guys manage to sell tv's because they have been next to useless every time I've been there.

That really is interesting. They had it surrounded with big LCDs at Chatswood too..made it look DULL.. I'm kinda convinced it SHOULD be better than what I've seen. You should only compare it with other Plasmas..LCD is a whole big variation on viewing..LCD and Plasma can't be compared. The Hitachi Plasma is worth sticking with. The specs are great..It should be better than any other current 1080p Plasma.. Try and see it out of the LCD field..Please let me know what you decide. and if youm buy and what happens at home. I would buy one now at the price you've got..But I JUST want to make sure...after the bad HN experience. I'll probably end up with it though

hey guys just got back from hn caringbar tried to have a look at this set again they only had blue ray running and the sales idiot said there was no airiel that would reach so couldnt see sd or hd tv blue ray looked ok but it was next to a pana 65'' running blue ray and it was knowwhere near as good. both sales idiots i have talked to have been very dissapointed as am i . I wanted to buy this panal like today.sales guy said wait till the pana gets here he confirmed rrp $4999 for 50'' $7999 for 58'' they are setting up a true hd plasma display so they will all be side by side because he said samsung and pio will be here around the same time he said maybe 4 weeks. i think i might have to wait because so far am not convinced with the hitachi it has everything i want i just dont know about the pq bummer. If anyoneelse can shed some light on our frustration that would be great.cheers

I saw the unit today at HN Brookvale.

Looked a class above the pany and any other similar plasma to say the least. however it was on a Hitachi loop so very hard to tell. At 5499 going below that and fully made in Japan , looks like an absolute winner. Have not seen the new pio thou, but leaves pany, samsung, LG for DEAD.

I certainly don't try to measure LCR vs plasma brightness in a showroom or any other room. LCD wins every day. What we are looking at is depth of contrast and epth of field which plasma wins hand sd won. BTW I won both so I am not bias one way or the other.

If they've ordered 900 their buyer must have faith in the model. Despite the terrible demos so far. So where do you stand now re the Hitachi and the forthcoming 50" Panasonics Plasma and Pioneer Plamas that are due in a few weeks. Do you still consider the Hitachi P50X01 the better pic.? I value your opinion on this. Staying with Plasma of course (50") and not considering LCD. . . that's a whole new consideration. Do you also believe the new Panas and Pions will be price competitive

The Hitachi new P50X01? You sure. They said they didn't have it yet. If so are you saying it was MUCH Better than any other 50" Plasma on the floor? By the way Clive Peters at Belrose have the best audition layout for good screens..Not the Hitachi 10180P just yet but coming in a week. But if you want to see the variations between Plasma and LCD CP is the place. You can preview a bank of BIG Plasma and immediately next to it a bank of BIG LCD's all running the same program. But keep me up to date on the Hitachi please..I'm favouring it so far.even though I haven't seen a good installation in store yet.

The Hitachi P50X01 Is on single display at HN Manly Vale..It looked very impressive. when fed from the Hitachi closed loop which comes I presume from a specific Hard Disc in the store. .However they do not have an arial connected so we cant see what it does with HD Broadcast or even SD or even HD or Blueray discs. Do they not know that we need to see 'off air' pictures as well as the ultimate DVD? when they've set it up properly we'll have to go back..meanwhile Clive Peters Belrose will proabaly be installed. The sales guy at HN steered me to the Panasonic 50" whcih retails about $10,000. When I asked why it should be twice the cost of the Hitachi he explained that the Hitachi is NOT real Progressive scan. He says it is an ASIS interlaced panel..But he also explained that there is NO differenc between the two systems because the Hitachi UPSCALES everything and looks as good as a real 1080P. What a confusion.!!!
