New Sony V300 Is In Store Now!

Recommended Posts

Just bought one V300 40" yesterday in Brisbane VIDEO PRO, they gave me a pretty good deal for the display unit, $1900 (includes 5 years extended warranty), bought it on the spot, but they don't sell set top box anymore... looking for one... anyone know where in Brisbane can find one? they claimed that sony has discontinued their DSTHD500, and read lots of reviews about it, all giving very negative comments.

They are reduced to selling display models already?

It doesn't seem the DSTHD500 is discontinued on the Sony website, but then again the Sony 3LCD's are still shown.

I noticed some posts in the thread for the 700a where people more or less say the video quality of the V300 is appalling. Is this the case? Is the video quality on-par with something like the V2000?

I've seen the V300 as well as the 700a on display in stores and they both looked good to me. But that's obviously different to having them at home and tweaking to perfection.

I'd like to get the D300a with its 24p support, but if it really is coming out in mid-September to October, I might go with the V300.

Each too their own I suppose. I notice that it is in the thread about the Pana's, so you'll get quite a few pana fan-boys in there.

I'm very happy with the quality of my V300, I think it is brilliant. I was looking at the Pana's in Harvey Norman today and they have excellent picture quality as well. I would say they were on a par.

I looked at both the V300 and V2000 at the Perth Sony store last Friday. The V300, to be honest, was disappointing. It was playing a Disney animated movie. The background during the scene was very blocky and patchy. I dont know if the source was a down-scaled BR DVD or something else.

The V2000 looked absolutely stunning. Though, it was showing a slow moving Sony demo video and was in a different room (so this makes it hard to compare to the V300)

I'm trying to decide whether to get the 40" V300, 32" V2000 or the 32" Pana 700A. All are about the same price.

I wish Sony would stop making such ugly TV's. Black is the new black.

Not sure how a display could show blockiness unless it was source related. Macro blocking is a producty of poor encoding/low bit rate.

The picture quality is stunning.

As it's a 10bit, DRC 2.5 bravia engine I'm not sure how it could look anything other than great unless poorly set up to begin with.

I'm not quite sure how they are ugly, I find the colour quite nice. Certainly better than a silver colour, and it isn't shiny like the majority of TVs out there now. The Samsung's just look terrible.

I've not noticed any blockyness on good source material myself. I had a Blu-ray copy of Casino Royale running yesterday and the picture quality was stunning.

Of course, I already own the TV so this could just be me defending my purchase :) but I think it is as good as any 1366x768 panel on the market and better than most. And, as I use a HTPC with 4 in-bulit tuners, the lack of digital tuner is a bonus (makes it that much cheaper).

Trying to decide between the Sony 32V300 and the Panasonic 32LXD700A. Not that concerned with the looks of the set, as I don't mind either, but more interested in PQ. Already have SD STB hooked up through old clunker Sony 68cm CRT, but getting sick of the dinosaur, and itchy feet with the new flat panels coming down so much in price. Already have 42 inch HD Panasonic plasma in lounge, but this is only a second set and has size constraints with where I'm looking to put it, so 32" LCD is the way to go.

So, my question is, to owners of the Sony, how does it go with fast moving material (ie sport, movies, etc). The main reason I'm even considering the extra dough for the Panasonic (about $600 more than the Sony, albeit with digital tuner) is that I've read about how well the Panasonic handles fast moving content, but haven't heard anything about the Sony. And I've seen LCD's that do handle fast moving content poorly, and having to live with this would absolutely drive me nuts  So, anyone got any feedback?

G'day all,

After reading through all the info on these forums I have my heart set on a 40" Sony V300 to replace my 81cm AWA LCD TV.

I am in Newcastle and all the retailers I have contacted either said that they had not heard of them or that they don't have any info and that they are not going to be available for another month or so.

Has anyone been able to source these in the Newcastle area, and if so what price were they?

The reason for the upgrade is that I have just purchased a PS3 for my hi def gaming/movie needs and the AWA seems to struggle as I am getting sparklies no matter what cable I use. I am currently using a Belkin Pure AV HDMI-DVI cable and it is bearable, but the sparklies are still there. My other AWA (66cm) just gives me a blank screen from the PS3 (I think this is due to HDCP compliance issues)... its all very frustrating.

Cheers, and hooray for my first post!! :D

I'm really keen on one of these sets, I just don't know why there isn't more fuss about them.

A 40" with good resolution, great brand and dirt cheap. Why would you buy something like a 42" Viera / Q91 over one of these?

Is there any major downside to one of these over the above mentioned Plasmas?

I'll be using it with my XBOX (Media Center) and Foxtel.

Will I also need an up-scaling DVD player? Does the Xbox 360 upscale DVDs?

went and saw the 32" today. great picture.

guy said 8ms response time was good enough for sport.

guy at DJ said that LCD's are shocking for sport and that 8ms isnt good enough. Who to believe?

Can't see any reason not to get one of these Bravia TV's. Only other options in the price range are a Panasonic 42" Viera or a Samsung Q91/C91 which are lower resolution and more costly.

Anyone found a Harvey Norman in Melbourne with these? Hopefully they negotiate a bit

Ask the sales drone if that's all LCD's or just those they don't sell.

He's full of crap.

If anyone who went ahead with the purchase can comment on FOXTEL & Sports / Fast moving action on this LCD... that would be great.

Also any other niggles that may exist.

Otherwise I am grabbing one this weekend if I can find one.

So which chains in Melbourne have the 40" ones been found out? I was going to get the D300a, but I may just get this model.

I'd be interested to know that as well. The only place I've actually seen them is Sony Central in the City before they had the 20% off sale and cleared all their stock. I've been to multiple JB Hifi's, Dick Smith Powerhouses and Harvey Normans and not seen a sign of these.

I asked a salesperson at Myer Melbourne store and he said they weren't getting anymore in since people want inbuilt digital tuners. The Sony place in Melbourne central reckoned they'd have more stock by this weekend, but haven't been in to check. Will probably do a ring around Sony stockists Sunday.

The dse.com.au site, which seems to be a good indicator of when new models are arriving, is also showing this as a clearance (end of line) product. My hope is that the d300As are coming sooner rather than later...

I ended up picking up the 40" V300. I've waited long enough for a TV so I just bit the bullet. I'm really happy with it so far. It's definitely amazing value 40" for $1700 + $150 5 year warranty. You really can't go wrong. This is for my bedroom but will be my main display. I was considering going with the 32" but I'm glad I didn't. I think 40" is exactly the right size.

I would have liked the 24p capability of the D300, but given it's probably still a few weeks away and will likely cost a lot more I decided it wasn't worth it.

If you're having trouble finding them definitely check out Dick Smith Powerhouse. The site tells you which stores have them in stock.

The guy told me that the new models are coming in about a month but Sony want the V300s (which have been discontinued already) and the old X series cleared first.

Again, great picture (with SD and HD) and great value.

Great thread! Thankyou to all who've contributed.

I'll be purchasing the 40" for a neighbour next weekend and am looking at either this panel or the 46" for myself asap.

Any recommendations for a seller in Canberra ?

They don't have a 46" in the V series.
