Samsung 50" Plasma Ps50q91hdx

Recommended Posts

I paid $2900 for the Q7 and they gave a straight swap.

Cool, I placed my order too, just waiting for stock. To be honest, I'm still not sure I made the right decision over the 46" m81 - but we shall see. And with the money I save I can buy an xbox360, a few games, a draft-n wireless router and still ahve som change in the pocket!

I hate xbox360.....they fail too much. Ive had 4 replacements since 22nd March and they are all stuffed.

PS3 looks awesome on it. specially blu ray.

I saw the 46 m81 @ jb and it did look really good, I couldnt compare though as they arent next to each other and had something else running on it.

Is it worth getting any extra warranty? And how much would that tend to set me back?

eek, I hope it doesn't sh|t itself on me... I prefer the xbox over the ps3 for a variety of reasons - mainly price and i want to use it as a media player

The blacks on this tv are great. Im just watching Open Season on blu ray, wish the Region A worked would have cost me $20 cheaper.

Its that great it looks like its in 3d. Its lighter, one thing it doesnt have handles at the back of the TV so when taking out of the box it gets all fingers prints over it and its hard to grab out of the box.

Sometimes when it goes to a black screen the previous image still seems to be there. Like watching the Casino Royale trailer on the PS3.

I have no idea what the HDMI - CEC is and when i scan with the PS3 in HDMI it does nothing.

The Q9 looks better than the Q7. My GF is really impressed with it.

Normal TV looks very similar to the Q7, there are a few extra features on this one.

I don't want to start a war on this, but what would be the best option in the current range of 50's. I'm leaning towards the Q950" or possibly the new Pana 70series 50". There's a lot of pana lovers around but I think the picture was just as good and no better then the Samsung. Pioneer is too pricey and to be honest I'm rather unimpressed with it. I think it's way overhyped. (Run's & hides) :D

Any other opinions would be appreciated.

From my post on the 1080P LCD thread:

With Samsung's HDMI-CEC interface, once you connect 3 various componenets via HDMI (Projector, STB and Bluray for example) the Samsung TV remote will control all 3 devices without needing a learning remote.

All Samsung's new display panels (R81, M81 and Q9 plasmas) have this feature.

Pretty cool IMO.

For the price you cant go past the Q9.

However, I did find a little fault with it. If you have the brightness 50 or above when you change channel the name of the channel flashes. Also saw a promo on channel 10 that done the same with a black screen with white writing. It sort of flashes for a few seconds and fixes itself.

I had a play around and pin pointed it to the brightness. Doesnt matter if its on Normal or Dynamic.

Do you have Dynamic Contrast on (it's under Detailed Settings)? I think this could be the cause of your flashes, as it is adjusting the contrast depending on what is being shown. Dynamic Contrast can make it difficult (if not impossible) to properly calibrate contrast on the TV. Luckily, it can be turned off, but I've set it on medium and left the main Contrast setting on 45 for now.

Cheers,

morkli.

I would just go out and ask. JB have them listed on the floor for $3300, so its possible. They come with 2 yrs anyway.

I had a look @ Open Season & Happy Feet on blu ray.......wow specially with that Movie Plus on, it looks so 3d.

Very, very nice tv. They had the 42inch setup next to the panasonic and pioneer and it just looks so much better. They had $2100 on the 42inch. Awesome price for 42inch with HD tuner.

The only difference i could see with the 46inch 1080p lcd was the brightness, it was very bright but they prob just had settings straight out of the box. For $2900 for the Q9 is great for me.

morkli the Dynamic contract is set to high, Its ok with the brightness @ 45 anyway. So i will just leave it like that.

I am buying my 4 at $3000 inc 5yr extended warranty. Originally it was just 2 screens but all my mates are jumping on board so I keep calling up increasing my order. I dont have a scanner so cant scan the docket.

I saw these Samsungs at JB Hi Fi yesterday, Chermside (north Brisbane). The sales guy said they had stock out the back, so I'm not sure why there are delays for people to get stock, unless JB's secured them first as they have them advertised in their latest catalogue. With 3 HDMI and HD tuner, and the plasma looks great as well, you can't beat it in the current market, with advertised price alone cheaper than LG and Pana. I don't know how many HDMI inputs the new Pana's will have, but I don't think it will be three (will there?). 2 year warranty on the Samsung as well.

Look for Pana and LG to drop the price on their range in a week or two to compete with the Samsungs!

I wondered what that HDMI-CEC feature was, thanks for clearing that up, very handy.

Does anyone know if Samsung have cleaned up the problems their past plasma models had, ie they were crap (image burn etc).

I can't decide between the 42" and the 50", given that both will be bigger than my current 32" LCD. Just a few questions... My viewing distance atm is about 2-2.5metres, I have a SD Mediastar PVR, HDMI supported DVD player and PS2. What would the PQ be like for these devices and given the viewing distance, what would be the best option? Would 50 be too big?

I'm in the same boat.. 42" or 50"! Hmmm. I'll have it connected to my HTPC to handle all things TV and PC related and eventually a PS3. I'm at the same rough distance - 2 - 3 metres.

Have you got the Q9 50" Pallamallawa? If so, where from and how much? (If you don't mind me asking)

Really, the PQ is awesome from 2m away? What kind of devices, connections and settings do you use?

Yep the pic quality is awesome.

I use:

PS3 for Blu Ray via HDMI - 1080i setting

Xbox360 Via Component - 720p setting

LG DVD Player Via HDMI on 1080i. I dont put it on 720p as it seems to flicker at the top and bottom of the screen.

I sit around 2m away. I had the Q7 and the Q9 shites all over it. Now im seeing prices of $3800 for the new 46M 1080p, Im sort of wishing i got that. Not sure of how much of a difference it makes having the higher res. I would have had to pay an extra $1000 to get the 46" LCD. For now this is awesome. In 2 yrs time I'll move to a 1080p LCD.

The price is awesome for what you get. (That's one of my deciding factors towards a purchase of the Q9). I can't justify paying more than 3k for a TV though.. As nice as the 46" LCD model is, its still a bit pricey for me.

BTW: What makes the Q9 "shite" over the Q7 in your opinion?
