Loewe 100hz Tv Recall

Recommended Posts

On the note of heavy metals not being allowed in the EU anymore... you can thank a little bird called "RoHS" - reduction of hazardous materials.

Basically it's the whole "lead/cadmium/mecury/etc-free" stance that the EU has taken. It's driving up the cost of goods manufacturing considerably, and thus to retain the low prices consumers demand; manufacturers have had to take shortcuts on the quality.

Blame ze stupid EU!!

Anyway... back O.T..... I just called about my Xelos, it's affected so they put me in touch with the nearest service centre, and they are sending a technician out on thursday morning (earliest i am available)

I wouldnt expect such service and support from the likes of LG, Sony, etc.

Has anyone had their TV repaired after filling in the web form to register their TV sets? I have had no response from Loewe or their agent after 6 weeks.
The registration is misleading and used only by Loewe Germany. The only part relevant to Oz is the check of the serial number. You will need to call International Dynamics directly.

You should ring this hotline number 1800 661 922.

Have your Serial Number & Article Number ready (should be on receipt or back of set)

They will confirm if your set is affected & tell you who to ring.

Then I waited for 3 weeks for the Service Tech to come out.

My set turned out to be OK.

Is that in reference to my post or has something else been deleted? If it's in reference to my post, is it a criminal offence around these parts to say if you received good after sales service from an industry supplier?

I think there was a porn spam post after yours yesterday ....

My Xelos was affected. Rang Service centre on Wednesday and tech was out at 9:00am following Friday. Problem fixed within 15 minutes with soldering iron - unbelievable. Whole process was extremely painless. After reading some of the comments, guess I have been lucky. Elapse time from finding out that my set was affected to problem solved was 4 days.

The picture is back to looking awesome, even with 16,000 hours of duty.

Can anyone tell me how to access that stats panel through the menu. The tech that checked out my Planus got the screen up showing the hours used etc, after he left I tried to check it again I could not find where to get that info???

Worked it out ... access the service menu by pressing the service button on the front panel of the TV (indicated by circle/arrow looking thing above the relevant button) this will activate an on-screen menu, use the remote to select "Service" then press the M key on the remote while "Service" is selected, you need to be quick, might take two gos.

Then be careful not to stuff around with any of the settings once you're in the service menu unless you know what you're doing. B)

Well over the past 3 weeks I've had 3 unsuccessful attempts at getting the fault fixed with 'Digibel'. Because I live just a little out of town it's too much trouble by the end of the day so he cancels. I've raced home early from work on each attempt and it's damn frustrating. Is their anyone else in Canberra that can fix the recall fault???

Had my circa 2001 Xelos looked at last week by a technician and my wife said (I wasnt home at the time) that he opened the set up and placed what looked like a rubber boot over something and said it was supposed to stop sparks from coming out...

All sounds a bit weird..I thought there was to be soldering involved...

May give 'em a call tomorrow and see what was actually done.

Anyhow, the week before my DGTEC 2000A of the same vintage died... the power was switched off at the main switchboard without switching off at the appliance first and the STB didn't want to come back on.

I know they have a bad rep over the years but mine has been great...cost me something like $700 back then, and as I was happy with it I went out and bought a DGTEC DG-HD7710 yesterday for $99 from J.B HiFi.

So far so good.....

Oh and my old Zelos still out performs anything i have seen elsewhere...crt, plasma or lcd....

As a second set i bought a Schaub Lorenz VMD3200PH about 6 m onths ago for $1999 and whilst it is acceptable, it is nowhere near as good as the Zelos...

My Dad's Loewe Aconda stopped working last week. My mum told me she is going to toss it out because my Dad just died and she never liked it - nearly 100kgs. I'm spewing because my dad paid nearly ten grand for it and it's the best TV picture I've ever seen.

Now I'm trying to work out if it's one of the recalled models, but I'm back in Sydney and she's 5 hrs up the coast.

Are the Loewe Acondas circa 2000 affected?

Guys,

It turns out that my set is one of the effected sets and I have just found out that there was a recall of the set. 2 years ago I took my TV in for repairs as it was flickering now and then and the authorised repairer said it was due to dry joints because of overheating. I paid $180 for the repair, should I be entitled to a refund as it is a manufacturing issue?

Hi jrtm

Most of the sets affected by the recall (including mine) were already working quite OK - the recall was a cautionary act on the part of Loewe. I'm not a legal expert, so I don't know if the recall would be classed as a repair. The Loewe "recall repairer" came to my house - it was a simple small job that took a few minutes.

It seems your TV required repairs in the true sense of the word (mine didn't). Dry joints are a known problem (according to my Loewe repairer yesterday).

Nevertheless, dig out your receipt - see what it states, and check the date. Perhaps a call to Loewe may be worthwhile. But I really doubt that after 2 years anyone is going to be able to state your repair problem was an integral part of the recall, and give you any sort of refund.

The recall was quite widely publicized - as a Loewe owner, it's a pity you weren't aware of it at the time.
