7 Hd Now 1080i!

Recommended Posts

Anybody know the Email addr. of seven (re engineering etc?). Can't find it on the web - I thought I might email them about what is happening in Brisbane (Perth & Adelaide). Just to let them know they are under scrutiny if nothing else

BTW in Bris, it's loop as normal with the fuzzy harbour bridge, the fuzzy Melbourne fly over. the artifacts around the horizon at Phuket or wherever - And that chick (coxwain in the rowing boat) is she just a head on a stick or what? I honestly cannot see how her body could actually fit into the front of that rowboat!!

I've already sent an email and left a phone message with 7 Perth earlier this morning so hopefully I'll get a reply soon which I will post here.

The loop looks a lot better than it did, and as for Sophie... well, she looks SEN BLOODY SATIONAL in all her 1080i glory!!

Since the HD loop is 25fps, it can be viewed in 1080p on the better TV sets with 2:2 pulldown detection and computers decoders with weave mode. Even better

Same applies with most US HD programming.

Hmmm. If they try to use this to justify 576p I will not be happy. Surely a normal network would say "aha, this looks great but we should increase the bitrate". To anyone at Seven listening, look at the praise this is getting and keep the changes. It looks as good as any HD content now.

praise aint gonna help unless people can hear it

Even if they have to keep this bitrate, the difference it staggering.

To the comment about telling them, surely someone is actually able to read what everyone is saying here. If I were a network engineer, I would be reading these sorts of message boards - I assume they are too.

i am sure all the techy people read here but its the boardroom mob in big companies that pull the strings, and i bet half of them would not know the difference so it cant hurt to tell um. i just called to say i liked it, if a few more people did the same and they used the same method for calculating the ratings it would at least get a message accross

All they need to do to up the bit rate is can the bloody VPG

All channels from 7 still have the same bitrate from when the guard interval was 1/8, now that it's 1/16, there's an extra 2MBps of bandwidth.

watchign the HD loop they got going - no audio coming out the plasma speakers !

also picture is a tad grainy plus can see solarisation/banding around on the blue - skys. I hope they are feeding it enough bandwidth, the broadcast has enough bit rate to to 1920x1080i any jsutice.

it is great to see ch7 join the HD fold though with 1920x1080i !

It's in 5.1 so you won't get audio on your plasma. Pretty sure it's also in 1440x1080i

I have something cool lol... Tonight on Desperate Housewives is Episode 7, Bang. I have PNG screencaps from a 40mbit 720p feed from america.

Someone should record Desperate Housewives in 1080i from SEVEN, and I can provide screencaps from ABC's satellite link. 60fps 40mbit MPEG2- fun!

Actually to make it easy for the recorder, here are the screencaps:

I am sure you can't find a better source than that:)

Be interesting to see what SEVEN do tonight - someone better post some screenies

According to DBA News:

Seven Network Test of 1080i in Sydney and Melbourne Markets

(19 March 2007)

The Seven Network has provided the notice to Digital Broadcasting Australia of its intent to test a change to its high definition digital television service transmitted in the Sydney and Melbourne markets.

The Seven Network notice is as follows:

"From Sunday the 18th of March the Seven Network is testing the use of the 1080i HD transmission format in Sydney and Melbourne markets. The test will continue for one week. At the conclusion of the week of testing the Seven Network will carefully consider the results of the test with regard to transmission format and bandwidth utilisation."

So on the 25th of March, Seven will decide whether or not to keep 1080i and to expand it to all their markets.

EDIT: Here is the URL (http://www.dba.org.au/index.asp?sectionID=...mp;display=news).

EDIT: Digitalj has already mentioned the article on the previous page (http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?s=&...st&p=620524).

I just knew it! I just KNEW it!

We just bought a 50" Panasonic plasma (1366 x 768) and have finally gone high definition for our telly - and loving it.

I knew that 7 was 576p, so I was stunned to see just how good Lost etc. looked. I mean, it looked brilliant. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I put it down to lack of vertical filtering, higher bit rate, any number of not-quite-satisfactory-sounding reasons I could think of as to why 576p should look as good as 1080i. Of course, I should have trusted my eyes!

This is GREAT NEWS

I also just emailed Channel 7 to thank them, and plead with them not to revert to 576p. I can't believe that they would spend the money on a 1080i chain from camera to home display only to not use it for some perverse reason. I think it's here to stay. Thank the makers!

You should still get some audio through the plasma speakers, or am I missing something here??

(Actually I can't seem to get the 5.1 on 7 to go through to my Denon AVR, even though other channel's 5.1 works perfectly... that's a whole different thread....)

Lost was on Thursday night. I think you will find it was still 576p at that stage...
