eFJay
ConsoleMan, I have the TH50PX600a and I am able to access menu 1 and have the same problem as you in that it changes to channel 31 inside the service menu. However, I can't seem to change it to channel 99 inside this menu. Hitting 99 won't work or channel up / down. How did you do yours ?. Hint, hold down the Index button before you press the -/V button.... Best to be on analogue 99 before you attempt to access the menus. e. Keep pressing green button and watch throuh the options. you will reach one point where you cannot go further (ie. the same display though you press green button) In either service menu you can use the red button once to get to the appropriate menu items (if just checking hours). Save that little green buttons life a little longer

Try checking that channel 99 has SKIP set to OFF (analogue tv -> menu -> setup -> tuning menu -> programme edit). You should then be able to move from ch31 to ch99 using the channel up / down button while in the service menu.
consoleMan
Could somebody please publish the original factory values in service menu 1 for 50" PX600a? I have accessed the service menu 1 on my set. I have not changed anything as far as I can tell, but the picture has changed since - interestingly the red push is gone, and the colours are more natural than before, and the image seems sharper. Very strange. Now, I just want to verify if any of the values there have indeed been altered in any way. Thanks. Service menu 1 settings: - Panel Type 2 = 50HD - Test Pattern Access (didn't go into this) - Sub Contrast = 604 - Video Gain 2 = 195 - All-drive = 252 - R-drive = 252 - G-drive = 248 - B-drive = 181 - All-cutoff = 128 - R-cutoff = 128 - G-cutoff = 128 - B-cutoff = 128 - Sub Bright = 2063 - PWRCTL = 235 - CEC Check = off - SD AutoCheck Access (didn't go into this) - EQ 120Hz = -1 - EQ 200Hz = -1 - EQ 500Hz = 0 - EQ 1.2kHz = 0 - EQ 3kHz = -1 - EQ 7.5kHz = 0 - EQ 12Hz = -
Pat_Mc_Crotch
Hey consoleman - thanks. I inadvertantly changed some of my settings trying to get into bloody service menu 2!! Got in there eventually and I'm up to 185 hrs. A question. You guys have mentioned persianimmortals settings for DVI and HDMI, but what are the optimal picture settings for watching free to air TV using the inbuilt digital tuner? TIA. I am not at the TV right now, will check it tonight, but I recall my settings being somewhat diffrent, even when I saw them for the first time, which brings a question: are the factory settings exactly the same on all sets? or is there perhaps some automatic calibration procedure, which balances the colours automatically (maybe within the software itself) to suit the individual unit and to accommodate the production tolerances? Perhaps I have changed something without even noticing it. Quite likely. Thank you. (sorry for a the late reply, I had a problem accessing the net in the last 3 days.) galimatias
- Test Pattern Access (didn't go into this) If you access this with the yellow/blue buttons, you can browse through a series of the test pattern screens, incl. what seem to be a screen washer. (There is also a screen there, which appears to show the current white balance temperature. What's its value on your set?) consoleMan, it seems that the settings you have posted are for the analog input only. I discovered that the analog and the SD/HD digital inputs have different sets of parameters. Would it be possible for you to post the default settings for the digital SD/HD channels as well? To access the digital tuner service menu settings, follow the same steps as before, except that you should start off in a desired DVB SD/HD channel (instead of changing it to analog 99). Thanks a million.

Thanks a million. Thanks for the test pattern info - that's something I haven't explored yet. I'm still using run-in settings, so my white balance temperature would probably misleading at this point. I went back into the service menu starting off with it set to a HD channel via the DVB (not analogue). It appears that the service menu options and values are the same as when accessing the service menu via an analogue channel Which parameters are different ? Have you tried the DVI->HDMI (HD STB) settings on the 1st page of this thread ? I was somewhat under the impression that the inbuilt digital tuner would output a picture of similiar quality to a STB connected via HDMI, but as I don't have any knowledge of the internal circuitry I'm just guessing. Still running at low settings here until a few more hours are racked up so haven't done any tweaking yet.

That's a good point - I've not tried it. I'm approaching 200 hours so I think it should be safe to start tweaking.
Haydo68
Hey Guys, I'm new to here and thought i'd post the calibration settings from http://www.plasmatvbuyingguide.com/plasmat...00u-review.html converted to the Australian equivalent. I assumed that Picture, Brightness, Color, and Sharpness were out of +-30. Consequently, the following was found: Contrast 55 increments Brightness 40 increments Color 30 increments Sharpness 1 increment Temperature Warm Picture Mode Standard Now, these settings from plasma buying guide are circulating US forum boards as a good standard. However, I could be wrong with the conversion to our Australian model (if indeed they are not +-30). Tell me what you guys think. Regards.

consoleMan
No problem consoleMan. Those settings are pretty good on my tv. Just wondering what everyone else thinks? Unfortunately I won't be ramping up my settings for a little while longer - I had a new set delivered yesterday replacing the original which had some screen imperfections (2 identical lightish dots 1/2 the size of a 5 cent piece approx. 7cm in from the right, 11cm down from the top and the other 7cm in from the right, 11cm up from the bottom - only visible on light backgrounds, there since day 1 when the set was 1st turned on). uforia
So if my plasma was brand new and not yet 200 hours runin, what settins should I use? Ppl say nothing above 50%, would I apply the above settings but just ensure nothing over 50%? Also is it safe to run a DVD on loopback nonstop to get the hours up quicker? Don't really wanna wait a month or two to clock up 200hours of normal viewing at lower settings
Haydo68
Hey Uforia, You shouldn't have too much trouble after 100 hours with plasmas these days. You could just use the 7 loop during the daytime. Movies which are 2.35:1 do not fill up the entire widescreen - so, using these over and over isn't a good idea for run-in. Anything that fills the entire screen is a good option. The settings I posted shouldn't be too harsh - except for the contrast.

dlpnut1503560389
To those that are not aware, one of the forum members emailed Pana and asked about the run in period on these new plasmas, the answer from Pana is NO run in period required, already done in the factory. So I don't think too much should be read into the 100 or 200 hrs of running these plasmas in. But it is after all your tv so you can do what you want with it as far as running it in that is.
