Acer At3220b

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Been researching these forums for some time and have found lots of useful info. Now I've registered and this is my first post.

I'm looking to purchase my first lcd tv and want to buy something priced mid range. I'm looking at the new range of Acer lcd's, in particular the AT3220B. I won't be doing any gaming - just want to use it as a tv. In the meantime I have a couple of standard def stb (of which I'll use one).

I've done a google search and found pricing info, but no reviews (I guess it's a fairly new model). And I've found info on the AT3201W on these forums, which overall seems like a good unit from what I've read.

So overall, what's the general concensus on Acer? And, more importantly, does anyone know anything about these new models? They're selling for between $1,350 and $1,599 which seems like a reasonable price for a 32inch.

Would appreciate any opinions or information.

Thanks

Don't know much about the new models, but I have an Acer DTV 37". It's pretty good, great picture and looks nice once you rip off the speakers.. I would buy another Acer LCD.... well, I would if the misses would let me. They seem to be a reasonable brand, at a reasonable price. Much better than the other Chinese brands anyways.

Cheers,

Chris.

I've got an AT3201W and must say I'm more than happy.

Signal sources most used are:

Fox digital. (The digital artifacts on some channels will annoy the crap out of you).

Or a Sony HD900 for HD FTA. Picture quality is excellent (Component much better than DVI, component is has a lot more adjustability than DVI in the set up menu).

Removeable speakers and swivel base are a bonus.

I paid about $1800 about 15 months ago, and am yet to suffer any buyer remorse.

Beware Flat panel displays are a drug....... Once you've had one you want a bigger one!!!!!!!!!

I liked the sound of this model the AT3220B as it was advertised on the TVSN website. Unfortunately I called ACER Product Information and they informed me that it only accepts PAL colour format. Even in AV mode its PAL only. I Import a lot of NTSC DVD's so the Acer got crossed off my list. Regrettably. Im now looking at a DSE 69cm 27". - im posting the specs in a new forum. Sorry im new here so i dont know if i can link it to this post.

I've got a question regarding the above comment, I was hoping someone here might be able to help me with. So as I understand, this TV only accepts the PAL colour system which means you cant play NTSC DVD's. What about xvid/dvix files that have been encoded in America? Would this TV be able to play those, or does the colour system only apply to DVD's?

Also, the response time is classified as 8ms (g/g) is this the same as 16ms (b/:blink: in which case its pretty slow?

I've just seen it advertised for $999 and at the price I'm very interested. However I watch a lot of downloaded tv shows/ movies and if I cant play those it wont be much good to me.

Thanks.

Viewsonic Mod. N3260w response time 8ms which is twice as quick as 16ms, handles secam, pal & ntsc. Price under $1100 go to www.staticice.com for best deals. These display panels have loads of features check out the Viewsonic web site. You will need a setop box or a computer with a capture card for digital as these displays only have an analogue tuner.

Is this right?

I've got an LG DV7711P dvd player that plays NTSC dvds fine on my very old Panasonic 21 inch TV.

If I get a new Acer AT3220B LCD TV will I be able to play NTSC dvds?

This is an urgent question as an OfficeWorks sale starts on Thursday 22 March 2007 with the Acer AT3220B for $799 after cashback.

Please I would love to know if only being PAL is a problem?

I too am wondering about this issue.

The 3 year warranty on this set makes it very appealing. (I am also considering the 81 cm Aiko LCD for $898 from BigW, but I think that only has 1 year warranty.)

I downloaded the specs from the Acer website and noticed the following section:

Analog TV system

TV Color system: PAL

Sound system: B/G/K/D/I/L

Stereo system: FM-FM

Subtitle: TeleText B System 100 page

Analog TV Tuner quantity: 1

MAYBE this suggests that the PAL specification only applies to the analog TV tuner? As such, perhaps there is nothing to stop you playing an NTSC source (e.g. DVD, DivX) through one of the various video inputs on the Acer TV?

I did a bit of searching on the forum, and some people suggest the real issue is actually whether the TV can handle input from 30 fps sources as well as 25 fps.

Here are some links you might want to read:

Hi guys, i'm also in the market for a cheap 32 inch lcd screen (mainly to watch Tv, play xbox 360 and maybe use as a PC monitor).

As with alot of ppl here the Acer selling at Office Works caught my eye. Another 32 inch LCD that I was looking at was the View Sonic N3260W which is selling for about $1000.

Has any one else been considering the viewsonic or had an experience with it?

Also surfing the web i wasnt able to find any reviews for the Acer AT320B, but i did come across this review on Cnet of the Acer AT2720B which I think is the 27 inch model in the same series (correct me if i'm wrong) and thought it might be a good guide for ppl thinking of getting the 32 inch one (i'm really not sure how similar they will be but it may help)

Acer review >>

I've also listed a review of the viewsonic N3260W as well, also at Cnet.

View Sonic review >>

What do you guys think?

Any feed back would be great! thanks!

Yes, I have definitely considered the Viewsonic. Don't know too much about it though, I must confess.

I found one post on DTV Forum which says that the Viewsonic is an older generation panel than the Aiko:

http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtop...mp;#entry586284

I have a friend who has a 22 inch Viewsonic widescreen monitor. He says it has always had some noticeable backlight bleed. Of course, that may be of no relevance whatsoever to this particular 32 inch Viewsonic TV, it may be a different panel altogether. (Although isn't backlight bleed more related to build quality of the panel housing, rather than the actual panel itself? Not sure.)

Hi guys I bought the ACER 3220B this morning for $749

So far so good.

2 things:

-It is quite loud (only when it has a signal so maybe it is fans on the video processing circiuts?).

-Also i think when i swithed from tv to av it is not remembering the aspect ratio setting that i had left the av on.

Anyway these things don't bother me but thought I'd mention them for you.

So far have only connected DVD player ( only via RCA  ) and also watched free to air through the analogue tuner (in the tv).

screen settings out of the box were:

brightness 46

contrast 47

color 57

sharpness 4

Then for no real reason i changed them to 50,50,50,4....

Wondering if anyone has some good values for the tv (although I'm guessing every tv is different anyway)

So far very happy :D

cheers

Stockel - where did you pick it up for $ 749?

Cheers

Hi 'boofhead'

Sorry I should tell the full story,

Price was $799 on sale after cash back, however I also got 5% off because my missus works at Target which bought it down to $749 (the five percent was taken from the before cash back price which was a bonus).

By the way as mentioned previously this was at Officeworks.

Man I wish I had an HD signal to feed the thing ...... hopefully i can con a mate to bring over his xbox 360...

Cheers

Oh also those screen settings I quoted earlier are actually specific to the display mode you select i.e. game, movie etc.

At the moment have it on 'user' for my custom settings, I am assuming the tv will remember them.

Also you can edit the preset display settings which i did by accident and I am not sure whether they would go back to default after switching back on, I assume they would.

Hi Stockel

Does the Acer do good blacks in your opinion? (In particular, how do they look in a darkened room?)

The blacks on my current LCD look pretty bad, in my opinion. Maybe I need to bite the bullet and get a Plasma instead... but they are so big and heavy :-(

Ok just picked this up. Was concerned about the PAL thing but I just made sure I could take it back if there were any issues. Well I like it a lot and I'm pretty sure they guy that said it didn't display NTSC just didn't know up from down.

I connected my japanese PS3 over hdmi and composite too to test, it played american versions of Resistance, Motorstorm and VF5 aswell as an asian Version of Gundam Musou. I also played american bluray versions of Casino Royale and The Departed. Proof enough for me.

Have yet to test my laptop on it sorry, need a bigger VGA cable.

Highly recommend this TV!

Hi mate,

The blacks look fine to me, sorry I am unable to see it in a dark room though until it gets dark... sorry.

Thing is this is the first LCD I have bought and also I am yet to see it running next to another screen, but to me the picture looks great (and I haven't even hooked up anything in HD yet). Sorry I couldn't give you a better response maybe someone else can though.

Also I think someone else answered your question in regards to PAL NTSC etc.

Cheers
