Kogan Lcd Tv's

Recommended Posts

Recieved an email from Kogan.com.au saying the latest shipment of LCD's has been 'delayed' but the items will be arriving soon, and will be dispsatched asap.

Has anyone else out there who's waiting for their spanking new panel to arrive, received one of these?

I've sent an email to the address listed on their website asking if the 'guarantee' of pre-christmas delivery still stands, but am yet to see a reply land in the in-box ... :D

edit: just recieved a response from Kogan - delivery is still happening before christmas ... good new, but I'll wait and see if it actually happens

I ordered my Kogan 32" LCD TV about a week ago (for $910 inc. postage) after reading the discussions on the forum - I am also awaiting the dubious 'pre-christmas delivery'

I'm not too fussed if I get it before xmas because:

1) I Will be away from the house at a family xmas party.

2) There will be one less shiny thing for the infamous "xmas burglars" to steal when I am at the aforementioned event.

However, I will busy myself with writing a review (with pictures) to post up on these forums and on my blog. I'm really interested to see how the set works with my Xbox 360, and to compare it to my mates new 32" Samsung and Hitachi sets.

It can't be worse than my awesome 32" widescreen CRT; When I watch shows that have shots of space in them, the stars 'bleed' white light onto the black green background! That seriously kills my Star Wars buzz.

Since I'm in no way a videophile I can't offer a professional review of the set, but I can at least give a decent impression (With Pictures!) so everyone can see how these things perform. Especially with games like "Gears of war", which looks fairly decent in SD on my CRT, but just screams to be played in 720P.

Unlike Evil_Emu above, I am fussed about my 'pre-christmas' delivery, as the panel is a present for someone

No doubt that's why they were advertised with a delivery guarantee, to attract christmas present buyers.

Well done to the kogan crew for keeping purchasers in the loop regarding the delayed delivery, but if the panel isn't here on Friday, I will not be happy.

Either way, I'll give my 2 cents worth on the forum, once I've had a chance to see the panel up and running - I bought the 19" widescreen for my mother's bedroom.

Hi all,

The container was received and unpacked this morning (photographic evidence can be seen at: http://www.kogan.com.au/temp/20061220-KoganDelivery.jpg )

Also, we have just received confirmation from TOLL Priority that every single TV was successfully dispatched today.

Over 90% of customers will receive their TV by Christmas (ie. this Friday) but there is a chance that some people who live in more remote areas might not.

You will receive a TOLL Priority tracking number shortly.

Have a safe and enjoyable festive season,

Kogan

Mine arrived at 2:00pm today. SO impressed right now. am currently typing in this post on the 32" screen in fact! and it actually looks really good. It came with all nescessary cables right out of the box (Thus rendering my trip to Officeworks earlier today redundant!)

Here is a link to a shot of it being used in my blog. I'll stick my proper impressions up shortly

Hey there, I got a tracking number a few days ago... Didn't actually get it for ages because my stupid junk mail filter intercepted it and hid it in a pile of 200 other spam messages! I came this close to deleting it!

The tracking number was sent from noreply@toll.com.au or something on Wednesday, to let me know that the pickup had been booked. It was then picked up at 10:04AM yesterday morning and delivered safe and sound at 2:04 PM in the arvo.

Just phoned Toll to see where my package is. Was informed that the item is still in transit, and was "extreemly unlikley" that it will be delivered today ...

Mr kogan, expect a very angry email coming your way this afternoon if the item does not arrive, as per your guaranteed pre-christmas delivery ... BTW I am in a Capital City, not a remote area ... :D

Hi David,

I have had one since the Friday before Xmas... and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. It is very well suited for gaming (Xbox 360) and using the computer on. I have had may jealous reactions from friends who have more expensive Hitachi and Samsung 32" sets, which don't look anywhere near as nice when I'm playing my Xbox or PC through them. Gears of war alone looked so nice in HD that it warranted another play through. I'm sitting here playing games and typing emails on it with both sun doors open 3 feet away, in an all-white room and the screen is more than bright enough to see in the blazing light.

One thing the Ebay listing doesn't seem to mention is the fact that it comes with almost all the required component/VGA cables, and that it has a 3.5mm stereo audio-in jack (with male/male cable included of course) so you can get your computer running on it right away. I had my laptop up and playing HD media through the set 2 minutes after sticking it on the table!

Threw down some 720p HD quicktime trailers, and some HD porn my friend fenagled, and both look absolutely stellar!

An ineresting thing I noticed was that when we hooked up my friends Wii (via composite cables - urgh!) the inherent fuzziness from the scaling of the LCD's image made it look really nice!

The User interface is extremely easy to navigate, and switching between inputs/menus couldn't be easier.

The sound through the included speakers is better than a cheapo TV, but I have heard better. The Bottom speakers are fully detachable and the set came with a wall mount kit. This set begs to be used with a decent surround sound set (which I do not have)

The viewing angle is awesome, by the time you notice too much colour distortion, you'd be sitting on such an angle that you couldn't see the picture anyway!

I'm really not too sure what else to say about the set. I would be happy with it if I would have paid $2500, and it cost me $910 delivered.

How about I take some more photo's and stick them here?

Give me about 10 minutes to stick them up...

Mr Kogan,

I have just sent you an email to sales@kogan.com.au after repeated attempts to contact you via phone only to be informed that 'sorry, this voicemail is full'.

I purchased one of your 32" lcd's on ebay, received it last week and have just unwrapped it and tried to connect up but this thing will not power up.

I'm hoping you stand by your warranty more than your '2 hour business hours guaranteed response'.

Any others watching this, stand by for an update.

Kogan, pls contact me asap.....

Cheers

Can somebody comment on the sound quality of the Kogan 32"?

I want a TV that has decent sound. I havent heard a modern TV with sound that can compare with my

1988 Toshiba 59cm CRT(made in Japan).

Also how does the Kogan compare with

a) AIKO from Big W and

 AVATEC (this has awesome sound, philips panel with SRS sound)

?

Hey, the sound quality of the speakers on the TV is nothing extraordinary. The bass is a bit fuzzy and they don't have much "oomph". They aren't terribly clear, and they set defaults to "surround" mode which gives the music and sound effects in DVD's a "wide" sound, but makes vocals very muddy and hard to hear. Turning this off improves the sound considerably in my opinion.

Speakers:

Pros:

-Can be detached

-Nice looking

-OK sounding

Cons:

-Will make you want to buy a dedicated surround sound system/ stereo for TV watching

-Surround sound mode always defaults to "On" making voice sound very muddy - If you like "Talkies".

Haven't seen the Avatec, but my set looks much better than the Aiko in Big W. Couldn't be happier... Then again, the A/V sources in big W don't look like much chop. Maybe they're just good sets plugged into a rubbish source?

Hi,

Ive been following this topic and I was wondering how the people who have actually bought from this seller went with regard to comunication with Mr Kogan?

Ive phoned three times-message bank was full, eventally got thru(left message) -and emailed.

No response in six days.

I appreciate Christmas/New Year is an awkward time, but two hour response time advertised on the E-bay website is looking a little shaky Mr Kogan.

What I would like to know is...

When will the 32" & 46" panels become available again, and are you going to offer something in between?

Thanks

Dan

Yep, the claims on his eBay store are overstated. The "guaranteed" pre-christmas delivery caught me out - my screen didn't arrive until well after christmas - and I live in an eastern states capital city.

Given the screen was supposed to be a christmas present, this guarantee is worthless  - just hope nothing goes wrong with the screen so i don't have to rely on the 2 hour response mentioned above!

The main problem I've had with contacting them on the proper Kogan sales address is that when I sent them an email, replies came from a 3rd party email (a Gmail address if my memory serves me correctly) which gets intercepted by my junk mail filter. As with the tracking number, I came within a hairs breadth of deleting it!

Strangely enough, this isn't the first time I've had a company do this... the large clothing Label "Dangerfield" emailed me back the other day from a personal Yahoo address! What the heck?!

hey all, im looking at getting one of the kogan 19" widescreen lcd's and i was just wondering if there is any bleed-out at the edges of the screen (i think thats the right term) for example with my mums viewsonic lcd its not always noticeable but when the screen is dark it seems to be really light around the edges. Do the Kogan's suffer from this problem? Any other info. would be helpful too. Thanks

Here's my two cents worth, as a happy owner of a 46" Kogan LCD.

I think the unit is great (and I work with HD Video) - not too fussed about the sound, as I have sound going through an entirely separate system.

Would like to point out the 'Noise Reduction' feature he's got on these sets - works a treat, without too much 'lag', inherent in this sort of image processing. Makes crappy DV-shot NTSC produced DVDs look a lot better.

In my direct on-the-phone dealings with Mr Kogan, I found him straight-forward and genuine. I'd say that any problems with delivery that some posters here may be having are due to the fact that it is only one guy running the show (sure, with some helpers, but really - you're not dealing with a big corporation here).

Knowing this, I made the choice to take the plunge into the unknown, and bought the 46' LCD. With the saving I made on the cost, I was prepared to take a certain amount of the 'to-ing and fro-ing' that comes with dealing with a small, start-up business. Sure, everything went smoothly in my case (well, I did need to email 3 times for the warranty info and receipt to be sent!), but I did save about $1500+.

I'd wish Russell all the best, and hope he keeps delivering technology and service he can be proud of.

(Now I'm hanging for an 'appleTV' unit to plug HDMI into it...thus letting me see my productions the way they're meant to be!)

KdC

(PS: anyone who thinks I may be Kogans' payroll, can visit me at www.makinnoize.com. I just think if someone is trying to 'shake up the system', they could be allowed a certain small amount of slack - of course, within reasonable limits.)
