Bravia X To Launch Soon?

Recommended Posts

OK - went down to Sony Central Today and got the goss.

New S Series - 26 & 32" ealry September. 40" will be a week behind

V Series - Sorry not until 10-14th October.

X Series the sames, but the 52" will be November !

They said they will have them first but they checked online stock availability with Sony as these are the dates they came up with.

I was pretty keen on getting another V40 but wanted to look at in light on the new Hd intergrates V40. But now there's a twist. Which makes the dicision harder. they had an offer to buy the V40 and a home theatre and you get the james bond DVD box collection gratis.

Now this is tempting as they offered the V40 for $3500, and I would need a small DVD system for this TV, they have a basic one for $500. So for $4K I get myself a V40, 5.1 DVd system and the Bond Box set. I already have a Sony Hd box sitting idle from when I upgraded to the Sony PVR, so in essence at $4K I have everything I need and a bunch of new DVD's.

Oh the wallet is scratching in my pocket ! I paid over $5K for my firxt V40 about 10 months ago. Oh the pain.

This is a big misconception. Doesnt Sony Use Samsung Panels. Or, Should we be asking "doesnt samsung use Sony Panels ?????"

This has been posted on this forum so many times. NOW HERE IS THE TRUTH.

This is the facts - and you can confirm by reading press releases from both Sony and Samsungs Global corporate sites.

Sony and Samsung entered into a joint venture to produce LCD sheets to be used in LCD TV's. This is a Joint Venture.

ITS NAME IS S-LCD, not Sony, Nor Samsung, So Sony does not use Samsung Panels, and Samsung does not use Sony Panels. THEY BOTH USE S-LCD Panels.

The Raw Panels are produced - And, they are actually produced to differing Spec as requested by either of the two Joint Venture Partners. They are not the same.

Once Produced raw sheets are sent to Japan in the Case of Sony, to to Somewhere in Korea for Samsung.

At that Stage each brand goes about enginerring and building their own TV's, with their own proprietary electronics and engines driving the things.

The Sony is a Sony. And the Samsng is a Samsung. Regardless of the RAW LCD panel used inside.

Hey Lets call a Porsche a Bosch because, don't they use Bosch's ABS system ???

Here endeth the lesson !

LMT, I don't think people read previous posts they just read the last couple. I've posted numerous times that the panels are a sony-samsung joint venture and not made by one or the other but it goes over some peoples head.

Your right about all previous models of bravias these were made in korea. However all new bravia models will be made in sony factories in japan.

Previous (ie current) Bravias are made in Japan, only the panel is made in Korea. The tvs are stamped 'Made in Japan'.

Can anyone verify if the Bravia X's can display 1080p without overscanning?

Is there a gaming mode to bypass overscan if its normally used for hdtv input so that every pixel sent from the PS3 will be displayed as intended?

can anyone find any information on the above?

God, the X series doesn't look like this does it?

http://www.sony-europe.com/res/attachment/...40104311056.jpg

(warning - massive size picture)

That's one fugly looking TV.

No the X series I saw at the sony expo didn't look like that. One of the models has an interchangable bezel that can be purchased separately and in different colours, I think the picture is of that model just with an ugly bezel.

But wouldn't one of the interchangable bezels come in black? I think it would.

It wasnt one of the colors listed by the SONEX guy.. I think the solid black bezel is a different model which costs more.

HAHAHA

That picture IS massive. I spent ages waiting for it to load before I realized I was looking at just the upper left white background of the picture.

If I had a Bravia X @ 1920x1080 I wouldn't have this problem. (I'm browsing on a V40 @ 1360x768)

I've sent Sony an email on this... I'll post a reply if I get one.

Well, they did have the black ones on display at the sony expo. If it costs a couple hundred dollars more so what, that can be haggled down to zero.

Ok, so let me get this straight...

They sell their new top-of-the-range TV with a ugly as sin bezel....But, give you the option to buy a black one (that any person with taste would want) and charge you a premium for it!!!

Gee, thanks Sony.

Must say I disagree, this is a pretty decent looking set, and will also do well in the WAF stakes.

Here's on interesting preview of the new Bravias. Apologies if this has been spotted before.

http://www.idiottoys.com/2006/03/sonys-bra...es-lcd-tvs.html

Are these guys on drugs??

That was the worst review (have they even seen the tv in the flesh) that I have ever read.

Do computer magazines EVER see the AV products that they review? Because they say the most daft things and review quality as loads of features and the lowest RRP.

The new S series is a standard Sharp/Panasonic equilivant, probably better. (except 1xHDMI only)

The V Series is easily a current Samsung beater.

The X competes (whether it wins pic quality or not) directly with the Pioneer PDP-5000 @ $15000. And the difference is there is stock of the Sony coming, whereas the Pioneer will be hidden in small specialist AV stores and allocated at 20 tvs per Australia per month MAX.

Sony will blow the competition away until new Samsung and Sharp panels become available. The officially have no competition in LCD right now.

So true. It's just laziness by people who obviously don't enjoy their job IMO.

Some people are very easily impressed too. e.g the guys on the avs forum podcast. Virtually every product they review they declare as being 'really cool'

I suspect it is not meant to be taken seriously. Light amusement during an ad break on the telly, that's all it is.

Might be funny, but don't review products you haven't seen. It's bad for everyone, not least of which their own reputation. Sorry, that assumes they care in regards to their own rep.

I don't disagree with what you are saying but I would not get too upset over it. I'd suggest that 99% of people that read it would not take it seriously (and that's after reading only the first paragraph) and the remainder would probably never buy an expensive widescreen TV anyway.
