Why is lcd better than plasma?

Recommended Posts

I know lcd is supposed to have better picture quality than plasma, but i was in jb hifi today and i could not work out why. Generally, i thought the plasmas had a smoother, higher contrast, closer to crt look, whilst all the lcd's looked very 'digital' and blocky.

Can someone explain to me the advantages lcd has over plasma?

who told you lcd has a better picture than plasma.

lcds I've seen - eg the sharp does not do blacks and contrast or movement very well with live material. Looks a lot better with the sharp demos that they play. LCDs still have a bit of a way to come. They seem to be leading the stakes for picture resolution vs screen size but thats all.

The blocks are pretty simple. All the shops I have seen feed their lcds with low resolution SD broadcasts, usually the inbuilt analog tunner. Because of its extra resolution, it will highlight the faults with SD broadcasts.

To get a lcd to perform, u need to feed it a HD signal from a progressive upscaling dvd player or a HD STB.

Having said that, the blacks on this generation LCDs aint as good as plasma, nor is the CR. Im thinking the next generation may match it however.

The main focus on lcds is that certain brands have release true HD panels of 1920 x 1080 resolution. This looks prettys stunning

As someone on the AVS forum most eloquently put it...

"LCD's are the speed hump on the road to the next generation of display"
