New PANASONIC plasmas, how much you pay?

Recommended Posts

I easily got rid of all the marks (which were quite bad) using the supplied cleaning cloth after heavy breathing on the mark hahahahaha

See.... I always thought there was a reason why they made porno movies. :o:lol:

Are all the Pana plasma screens supposed to have a protective film around outside black frame when you unpack them? I got a pz 50 800a in mid dec. only to find that it had rectangle rub marks at the bottom corners of the surround that appear to be made from rubbing on the polystyrene packing. Complained to retailer and panasonic and the retailer replaced. Went to pick up today (250km round trip!) and opened up box at retailers only to find same problem again. Panasonic support stated that all screens should have the protector. Ended up bringing home original screen, now awaiting third time lucky plasma to turn up. If it wasn't such an outstanding tv I would have told them to jam it and buy something else. Has anyone else had this problem?

I went through three (that's right three!) 50PZ800A back in Nov-Dec with the same problem everytime (marks on the bezel). In all cases, the marks appeared to be caused by rubbing from the plastic packaging. I was fed up after the third TV and got my money back. Wouldn't be surprised the TVs go back to the warehouse and end up with the next unlucky customer. I am now looking towards the SAMSUNG LCD's.

So a few little rub marks are more important than a better PQ

I took delivery of a TH-50PZ800A in recent times and there are 4 strips of protective tape on the corners at the front of the TV, and I would assume these would match up with where the packaging would meet the actual TV. So, I guess Panasonic are listening to some of the complaints.

Unfortunately, being a sad egg I still haven't taken the tape off so I shall make a point of removing it tonight to ensure there are no marks

What is important to me is to get what I pay for. If I was purchasing a second hand or shop floor item, then I would accept such defects. When paying hard earned cash for such an item I would expect the TV to come out of the box in pristine condition. I gave them three goes to get it right and they couldn't.

Regarding PQ, that is down to the individual. FWIW, the 9 series Samsungs aren't bad in that regard.

+1 for get what you pay for. If I had purchased a brand new car I would expect it in new condition. Gets down to poor packaging on Panasonic's behalf.

Further off the price topic (but continuing with defects) - my new th-42pz800a has a couple of dead subpixels. (One pixel has dead green and blue, another pixel has dead green.) Anyone taken a good close look at their units and checked? EG, I made myself up an SD card with five 1920x1080 JPGs on it: Black (0,0,0), Red (255,0,0), Green (0,255,0), Blue (0,0,255) and White (255,255,255) .. put it in the TV and ran slideshow.

I'm not sure whether I qualify for replacement, or can be bothered.. curious to know what people have found and done.

Hi Guys,

i am sure this has been asked but i cant find it

any one done a side by side with a pz800 and a pz850?

is the 850 worth the extra cash?

i am bout to buy a 50pz800a but if the 50pz850a is worth the $300 more then i will go it

i am in QLD Mackay and from what i can see thebarginhunter seems best on price, anyone found any better currently?

There were some US reviews early on and they reckon the PQ on the 800 was better than the 850, but I think they were getting down to splitting hairs. My Brother picked up the 850 and it is a lovely screen

why don't you buy it from one of the internet base sellers, they just use an internet store to expand their sales channel, at the end of the day the sets all come from the same place? will save you a bucket I imagine..

but I would be +1 for the PZ800A, the 80A looks old and cheap IMO

Finally bought a new TV from The Good Guys today after months of hesitation.

Got a 42PX80A for $1200 cash + $129 for additional 2 yr. warranty.

Harvey Normans best cash price was $1500 (ticketed for $1699) and Bing Lee's best cash price was $1485 (ticketed for $1899).

Haven't set it up yet, will have a play around with it tonight.

That's a pretty good price fro the PX80 considering all the talk of price rises. Well done!

Yeah, we were happy with the price...

Had a bit of a play, audio isn't anything special (I knew that was one of the weaker points though, will sort out audio at a later date).

Out of the box settings look reasonable running on rabbit ears until TV is in place (7HD), still looks reasonable at ~2.5-3M. Will have to have a read and check out some run in settings/optimal picture settings and everything else I need to know (our first flat panel TV) :D.

I'll have to grab a HD animated movie and hook up the PC via HDMI and see how it looks too.

Overall stoked with the unit thus far, and glad I bought it after months of indecision.

One last thing, if anyone answers before I read the manual, is there a signal quality/strength display somewhere? I assumed it would be on the "i" screen...

Cheers.

Going to buy a 58" Pana next week.

Had prices from $5400 to $5700. Was told if I had got in 2 weeks ago I could have had one for $4800. Stupid price rise.

Anyone else been looking for a 58" lately. If so how are you going with your prices?

i just bought a

50PZ800A with delivery and 2years extended warranty for $2999 at goodguys Mackay,

i am pretty happy with the price as delivery would have been $100+ to where i live and the warranty was only $200 and i think thats not too bad.

considering most places are chaging new prices already and its a local dealer rather than online i am happy,

could i have gotten it any cheaper at other stores?

Doesn't really matter unless the place you bought it from has a 14 day price match policy.

You've got it now, so get it home and enjoy it. Any savings you could have made by possibly buying it cheaper elsewhere, are quickly forgotten when it's up and running B)

That's exactly what i am doing today! Sit in front of my new 50" Pana in the Air Conditioning and watch the cricket in HD for the first time! :)

Picked up the 50PZ80A yesterday from Domayne for $2387 + $269 for 4 years extended warranty. Thought this was a pretty good deal. Been looking at prices for a couple of weeks and haven't seen it this low for this model.

So far very happy with it! Just need to get myself a Blue Ray! :D

I asked about the 58" in the new model that's out in August and he said around the $7500-8000 mark.

My wife is letting me get one now so I am jumping in cause if I wait something will come up that won't allow me to get it.

Besides if you wait for new things you will be waiting forever as you never stay ahead of technology.

Now to convince her of a new Yamaha 3900 amp and new subwoofer and I'm done. HT finished (well until something new comes out)

Hey mate,

I'm in WA where did you get the quote for $5400?

Thanks.

David.

Hey mate, $5400 from Paul from Betta Elec in Rockingham and $5449 from Yoshi from Rick Hart in Vic Park.

I went with Rick Hart for the fact it's closer to transport companies as I have to get it delivered to me 1200km away and he was good enough to fax me a quote and was pretty good to deal with. No other store I rang could go close (mind you I was doing it all by phone).

Ah the cheapest I've heard was $5699 from Harvey Norman today. It was the ticketed price. I was ready to pull the trigger but decided to go check out Rick Hart. They said that they'd match it. I tried to get them to chuck in the extended warranty but they wouldn't budge. We ended up saving $600 on the fridges we purchased but I felt I might be able to get it cheaper elsewhere.

As far as I can remember it costs them bugger all for the warranty and that they make good gross profit on them.

I'm going to hit JB's up tomorrow but I'll try to chase up on the leads you've been so kind to pass on.

Cheers!

David.
