HD STB Shoot out

Well!!! the way people were taking about this box I thought it had DVI/HDMI output?

cheers laurie

Hey laurie, like glenncol said in his post, it's every bit as good as the DVI from the Teac, but without the inherent problems of the Teac.

As per the DVI vs. Component thread, this is one case where a well implemented Component is equal to a DVI/HDMI output.

And when was the last time a $500 piece of home electronics had a stainless steel case. This thing is feels like a specialist piece of electronics device built by a quality engineering shop, not some mass-produced Korean/Chinese shyte.

Seconded. The unit feels and looks very industrial-strength.

Just found out that the Good Guys at Castle Hill have a truck load of them in stock. The advertised price is $849 and got $50 off on the phone. I know still expensive but I mentioned that elsewhere it can be had for $500 mark, still waiting for the callback, his boys are looking into it.

I'll keep you posted.

hey all. please forgive my ignorance but whats the compisite AV input for?

moochy

Not having one I assume you can feed an external signal e.g. vcr/dvd and have one set of wires to the display which then means it must upconvert to component I stand to be corrected by either Glenn or Foghorn17!

cheers laurie

Sorry I haven't been around tonight folks, but I've started enjoying watching the footy again thanks to the AUSID... and tonight's state of origin game was a pearler (if you're from NSW).

I believe that laurie is correct the Composite input is for another tuner e.g. VCR, STB etc. and is used as the AUX input for the PIP function. I'm not sure whether it upscales or not as I haven't tried it yet.

EDIT: Just confirmed by reading the manual on page 13 that the composite input is indeed for VCR/DVD input, as are the 2 RCA Audio inputs. However, it still doesn't say whether it upscales.

Checked it late last night it does not appear to upconvert

Edit post

But does appear to clean up the composite signal

imagine a whole ausid range of source equipment that small and commercial looking!

Then it will not work properly! sometimes design features causes problems! JMHO e.g the shielding in this product MUST be excellent would it be if it was made out of plastic!

cheers laurie

Hey glenncol, Just out of curiosity - How does the PQ of the AUSID box compare with the J35?

I will be able to answer this shortly

I have not bothered to grab a J35 as yet but the re-release is due now at the end of june so i will grab one then.

Honestly until i do the side by side my plan is running the AUSID as everyday TV and the J35 just for PVR use

Mate you never know your luck but can tell you there is no difference between the AUSID component or the Teac DVI but hey with that being said imagine what a AUSID DVI would look like

glen I tell you if ever the dvi port on my plasma gets gobbled by something else I sure hope theres something like this around that does true justice to component connection. Now why can't the likes of toppy get their component working as gorgeously as the audid has ?
