scanman
I have read plenty about ideal viewing distance for panels but is there an ideal viewing height. I have seen a lot of panels mounted quite high in relation to the viewer. I have a 505 arriving tomorrow (wall mount) and I am debating over the ideal height with a viewing distance of about 3.6m, any suggestions, my current viwing height on a 434 is about 1m which is a bit low for a big panel. There are many - differing - recommendations, but you're best off trying out different heights. Now if you cant go moving the panel around, make up a similar sized piece of cardboard or the like, and set/stick it up at various heights to give an idea of what is comfortable. Looking slightly down is OK in some types of sofas, while E-Z-chairs/LayZeeBoys/etc, where you can lie back ap bit, lend themselves to looking slightly upwards. My situation is complicated by room layout, so I have had to put the screen (110" pj screen) quite high ... just below the ceiling. Luckily, that seems to be a really good height for me, and I can watch without any problems! (well, apart from the light reflecting up onto the white ceiling )
Ryan1503559697
Not that i would personaly know but i remember hearing once that the bottom of a plasma(wall mounted)should be in line with your eyes as if its to high you will have to tilt your neck back which will be uncomfortable. Cheers Ryan

Great tip Santa..exactly what we did. May also be determined by what the wall mount is being screwed into?
Peter D
We felt the the more common plasma stands are too low (usually 450 - 600mm). We found one that was around 700-750 which placed the bottom of the picture around 800-900. Don't remember exact figures.
DigitalObserver
google is pretty quiet on this question but one report states Quote: "Q: What about viewing height? Does that matter? A: For optimum viewing, your eyes should be level with the middle of the screen when you're seated in your normal viewing position. This is especially important for a "big-screen" rear-projection TV since its picture will look its brightest at this level. The cabinets of larger rear-projection TVs are designed to position the screen at the optimum height. For direct-view TVs (and tabletop rear-projection models) we carry a wide selection of TV stands to support your TV and raise it to the correct viewing height." This seems to make sense that the manufactrurers are telling us something via: "The cabinets of larger rear-projection TVs are designed to position the screen at the optimum height". Site is: site reference Hope this is of help.
scanman
Thanks for all your thoughts; we ended up mounting it at eye level whilst sitting on the lounge. The Pioneer installer (Sam) was very patient as we went through a few different heights, the end result is a great looking 505 hanging on the wall and a very comfortable viewing position. The 434 was reluctantly handed back with 700hrs on the clock (meter).
