Gorgeous work Mark. I greatly enjoyed looking at your photos.

I also noticed that the TriPlanar tonearm has the counterweight underslung the right way, as was being discussed last month.

Your client must be ecstatic.

cheers

Grant

Hi Grant, thanks for your kind comment. The client, as often happens, has become a good friend and I talk to him regularly. This build was some 4 1/2 years ago and he continues to rave about the sound as recently as last week! It gives me great joy to have brought him closer to the music he loves so much.

A note to Andy, the Counterweight Shaft is "under slung" just as it was designed by TriPlanar. This is a great design feature, and std on all TriPlanars, and not something I've done during the build.

I've added a couple of shots of the Drive End with and without Teres Drive for those interested.

Cheers, Mark.

Aah, OK - thanks, Mark.

As I mentioned, I thought it was normal - as that's how Duc arranged the 'Univector'!  :)

The tip of the upward-pointing spike which is the UP point (inside the black housing), is at the mid-line of the c'weight stub.

WRT the Triplanar:

It seems to me that it would be worth getting heavier c'weights - so they could be placed nearer the pivot point, for the chosen cart and its VTF (to reduce inertia)?

I bought this Kenwood 500 with a Grace 707 tonearm.

The Plinth and cover are in very good condition and have been well looked after.

The Grace arm had issues and at the end of the day I thought didn't really suit the Kenwood aesthetic.

So I had the ACOS GST 1 tonearm fitted and havent looked back.

Interestingly the height spacer on the arm comes from an old Alpha part......

I think for an old girl she looks great and plays quite nicely.

Hi SirJester, good work on the TT.

May I ask where you acquired the tonearm as I am looking for these to find the additional counterweight at the end (to replace my jury rigged counterweight).

Cheers

Thanks KRSDarwin,

I think you have the upmarket version of the arm that has the height adjuster which would be a handy little feature.

My arm was a gumtree purchase but unfortunately it didn't come with the additional weight.  Probably as rare as hens teeth.

I wonder whether it would be worthwhile looking into getting one machined?

Hi Shahrin,

I am using a Garrott Brothers K1 cartridge. I find the cartridge is robust, tracks well and I get a very enjoyable sound.

I replaced the headshell that came with the TT with the Jelco because I was going for an older, solid, wood look.

Cheers

Is it just the photo or is the cartridge "leaning" to the outside of the record?

Hi Kevin.
Yes its certainly a very nice looking headshell. And heavy !
When i ordered my Jelco, the seller in UK enquired what cartridge i was going to use.
He recommended the HS 30 on account of the DL103 that i intended to use.
So the DL103 sits in the HS30 and i use an  old ortofon MC15 mkII super in the standard HS25 headshell.
Too bad Jelco have pulled out of the arm making business
Cheers

noice.  I do like the look of the Music Hall decks.  But is that a speckled paint finish? or artistically arranged dust ?

Dust obviously! Will be giving it a good clean in the next few days.
