SAMSUNG 61”, 56", 50” & 46", HD 3 Panel LCD RPTVs.

For the X-box, I use the advanced AV definition cable thingy you cna get from any X-box retailer.

That allows you to plug S-video directly into AV port4 on the side of the TV.

I use left/right RCA plugs for sound some times, or optic cable to the back of the amp if I want 5.1 sound.

Awesome picture - so much better than the standard AV pack - gives u different options in your menu in the X-box too.

Oh yeah - my TV says Version 1 as well

I just saw this TV at HiFi Supermarket in Ringwood and I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. It was hooked up to a DVD player and it just didnt look as sharp as I thought it would.

Could this be due to the setup of the TV or the cables they were using (normal red, white, yellow cables)?

Large displays demand better input.

Displays like the Samsung and LG are so clear that they show up the 'ordinary' signals that some devices put out.

Using a progressive scan DVD player will significantly improve the picture, as will using an HTPC (Home Theatre PC) with it's high quality VGA/DVI output.

Standard DVD signals are OK for smaller displays but don't cut it for hires displays. Displays that are are so clear that they show up the faults which other displays conceal because they simply can't "render" the detail.

To make thing worse, dealers often daisy chain the one signal through many sets, and often use composite video. 'Shame on them' for not letting these superb displays strutt their stuff.

The GoodGuys in Brighton [long way from Adelaide, I know] have the LG & Samsung side by side in store which made it easy to compare the Ch9 loop.

To my eyes, the Samsung showed slightly more detail than the LG in some scenes [ie detail on the sandstone wall] but that might just be the instore source & setup. The LG also has a glossy reflective surface, which interfered with the picture under the strong fluoroscent lighting, while the Samsung has a matt surface which worked much better in the store lighting.

Yep I checkout both and I decided on the Samsung because it has more inputs, the screen is not reflective like the LG also normal TV looks better through the Samsung and HD looks better on the Samsung as well.

Also the Samsung has a lot more features then the LG.

What ever you choose all that matters is that you are happy with it whether it be the Samsung or the LG.

:P

Thanks for your info.

They did have the LG and Samsung side by side and the LG was daisey chained through 2 TV's showing the Ch 9 HD loop....and it looked better than the samsung.

The samsung was connected to a fairly cheap DVD player and was only using the crappy red, white and yellow cables. Also the samsung looked like they hadnt setup the colour and contrast and all that stuff properly.

Before Ill buy ill make sure to see it setup in perfect

Yeah at the Hi-Fi Supermarket opposite Highpoint in Melbourne - they were side by side. Reasons I went Samsung:

1. Size - samsung bigger

2. Inputs - much more with samsung - 4 AV 2 components, PC, DVI

3. TV - Samsung has built in TV (not that I use it)

4. Finish - matt finnish looks better

5. Stand - the stand allows me to put stuff in - centre speaker,x-box, DVD, VCR, foxtel box

6. Got it for a good price

7. Just looked better

Hi Nev,

I went down to the Good Guys on South Road.....is that the one you were talking about??

They only had the LG there  turned off aswell??

I didn't get a chance to talk to any of the sales ppl because i was in a rush and they were all busy so i will ring them tomorrow and find out the story.

But i am starting to lean towards the Samsung because of the built in tuner and more inputs.......also the overscan prob of the LG.

I just gotta find one so i can see it for myself..lol.

cheers.

I'm thinking of getting a universal remote because at the moment I have about 5 different remotes. (One for the STB, DVD Player etc etc.)

So is any one using a universal remote with the Samsung?

Also does any one have any recommendations for a good universal remote?

Dilligaf yeah I can not figure that Samsung remote out, I’m going to ring Samsung tomorrow and ask them how to make it work as a Universal remote.

Or maybe it only works with other Samsung products…
