Abc Problems

Recommended Posts

Haven't checked it out for a while but is the SFN working yet? I used to get ABC on 37 from Newcastle until they stuffed the SFN on the Central Coast - is 37 working yet? (In areas where you also get Newcastle)?

ABC Gosford not working at Woy Woy. I've just about given up watching the ABC as the analogue reception here is not that great with quite a lot of interference.

Believe the problem is still months away from being corrected.

Hi again,

No, ABC from Gosford is not transmitting, or transmitting at very low power - we have seen it up on odd occasions, no doubt during some testing period or other, at various locations where pointed at gosford, including Tascott, Woy Woy, Green Point, Gosford & East gosford, but these are rare & have not lasted.

As I understand the situation with ABC Gosford, they are transmitting at 100W which is their authorised power, the same as all the other Gosford digital translators.

Because of a lack of the proper timing equipment at Gosford, ABC Newcastle is interfering with the Gosford signal. This affects mainly those whose antenna is facing north and who were receiving good reception of ABC Newcastle prior to the Central Coast SFN starting transmission. It will also affect those with a south facing antenna who are probably receiving ABC Newcastle through the rear of their antenna.

Conversely, those with an east or west facing antenna to Gosford may be receiving ABC Gosford with varied success depending on their location.

I stand to be corrected by one of the antenna experts.

Bobstar, David,

The missing equipment at Gosford and Bouddi is a satellite dish and receiver that ABC will take their signal from.

Once this is installed, it will allow them to adjust the timing to mirror Newcastle and hence allow the SFN to work correctly. The initial advice was that planning permission was not received prior to all CC translators started up in Feb. One can only assume that it is a role of local councils to give this approval. Note that the Wyong translator has this approval and the dish was installed in Feb.

We can also assume that the provider for the ABC will eventually get around to install this dish when they get time as they are probably very busy installing DTV around the rest of the country and have to reschedule staff for this install.

Hi Guys,

Yep can only add to the debate we just switched a guy over to Bouddi to get his full Digital channels . He was facing North towards Gosford so was getting the SFN problems as been described he was also loosing NBN and Prime for the same reason. This was the first time we have seen NBN and Prime affected by the SFN but at this stage he have no idea how.
