Curious
Boy Curious; All I could afford then was a onkyo tx sr 674 I'm a bit reactive when it comes to spending money, if I like it I find a way to buy it (would rather borrow cash and repay it than miss out) Bad habit I know...but then when I die I won't have any regrets...want to go to my final resting place knowing I did everything in my power to buy as many toys as I could Cheers, Curious

Johnson4
Finally a successor to my AVP-A1! I've been waiting for this unit for soooo many years now. Brilliant to hear it's HDMI 1.3 too. Cost worries me though. Carlton AV has got the pre/pro slated at $26,000!! I think I paid $4,000 for my AVP-A1... I'm going to have a hard time convincing the wife that we need a new processor instead of a new car... As for the looks, I love it! I'm so glad they kept the old champagne gold finish, and the power button matches my DVD-5000. Lovely stuff all 'round. Keep us up-to-date, you retail gurus... franin
Good find Johnson4,The both are going to retail for $26000 not bad. What i can't believe is how carlton av has it with a price and audio products group who is the distrubutor for Denon has nothing on it. Guaranteed you can buy them separately if you don't need the poweramp. I reckon it will hit the streets at about the $50-60k HKD price mark. I don't really need one, I just WANT one!! No, my present amp configuration is probably better than the new Denon, so the new pre-pro might be on my shopping list. I know the new Denon pre-pro doesn't have a DVDO chip in it for the HDMI v1.3 and video processing, but I don't know which chip it does have. So until I can find out more about its video side I will hold off on buying a new VP50. I have no doubts about its audio pedigree, it will be audiophile reference quality. What I'd really like is for Denon to build a high-end universal player with analogue audio outputs, then there would be no need to retire my Halo C2 AV controller. So my present thinking is to WAIT and buy nothing until this thing hits the streets.
JoshH
I know this is a bit off topic.. but did anyone else notice at the bottom of this link Go to the Bottom There is a very cool device for HDMI to fix it with a screw connector like a DVI - BLOODY GOOD IDEA. I hope this becomes standardized. Im sick of these dam things falling out after installs. On Topic - Nice looking Pre-Power - the power is very retro indeed. Nice to see the balanced connections. I dont think I could pony up $7000 Euros for a Denon - Id rather a Theta for that sort of money - but dang.. it does look the goods!

Denon has always been in advance in there technology, especially there flagship models.I've noticed like in mine I have never problems playing the latest audio formats or recieving the 1080p/24 video through the denon at all.I think the pre-amp will be a definete good buy, but there power amp, they have there own distict sound(could have changed). You basically like it or not. Johnson4
Sorry guys... I can't help but drool. I *must* have that preamp. Can we get a group discount? So here's a question: can you use both the balanced and unbalanced connections at the same time? I have two ME amps with balanced inputs, and one Denon amp with unbalanced only. (I recall hearing something about ground loop issues...)
Johnson4
Just looking carefully at the back of the pre-amp... why do they always put the component inputs so close together? I have some cables with man-sized plugs... squeezing them onto snack-sized posts always gives me grief. I reckon they should drop the composite inputs (even the s-video). As if anyone buying this unit would still be using composite cables...

Spero D.
The Preamp is going to be released in the US for $7000US in August = $8750 Australia. I have a feeling the Preamp here will be $13,999 since APA usually double the US RRP here in Australia i.e AVR-4306 $1999US = $3999 here in Australia. Just a guess. JoshH
I have a feeling the Preamp here will be $13,999 Ouch - that will put it firmly in the 'very nice' but 'too expensive' box for most ppl. Especially for those who need the power amp as well.
