Hergest
Thanks for the photos Shane, really enjoying them. REgarding the Audio Note room, I'm used to seeing their speakers against a wall or corner, I think this is the first time I've seen them out in the room. Do they still 'work' in this configuration? As in, are they at their best or lacking?
metal beat
@guru LOL. 6 moons couldn't afford me!! I am over here in HK with plenty of spare time on my hands. Typing this by the pool I think when you don't work in the industry you have a little more enthusiasm seeing all the pretty toys. Poor old Ed, Alan and Marc are all " working " and I use thst word sparingly . Rusty, Stump and I are just chillin. @Hergest yes, they worked fine. What you can't see is the AN speakers are close to the side walls. They were only playing Asian musak so hard to get any real read thou. Administrator Marc Posted August 12, 2017 Administrator Share Posted August 12, 2017 I also spotted the AN speakers out of the usual positions. It's one of the rooms I actually managed to sit in the sweet spot for, and I must say even with the tried and tested Tin Pan Alley playing, they were sounding sublime. Which AN speakers are they @guru? Not as exotic as some of the things on display here, but I'm yet to hear an AN room anywhere in the world that has not impressed me. Glad you enjoyed them Marc, they are AN-E SEC Signatures, Alnico magnets and external x-overs. The speakers are the least costly item in that system so may not be exotic but won't leave you any change out of $750k. cheers.

metal beat
I went back to the show on Sunday morning and thankfully at that time it was not that crowded. I was able to visit some new rooms that I did not see on Friday. the Genesis Speakers sounded excellent - 3d image was good, mainly due to the rear firing drivers no doubt. The small Penaudio speakers sounded sweet and floated nicely - quite impressed
metal beat
The Air tight room was very good and the Air tight amps drove the Karma speakers very well. We even got to meet Mr Air Tight - Miura-san Serbian turntable that uses Kuzma tonearms Miura-san - the man in person a lovely gentleman. One may think these are Maarten speakers - but they are not. A new design from an Italian speaker company - I still can't read the name of it - sounded pretty good, looked a million bucks. The EAR/Chario room sounded extremely good considering the music was being played with a Clearaudio Concept turntable new Alexia 2 Edited August 14, 2017 by metal beat
metal beat
Unfortunately this Vienna acoustics based system was worse of show - Vienna speakers sound good, so it must have been the crappy streaming they were using as a source - Can't believe they continued to play the system the way it sounded - flat, boomy with recessed vocals and zero musicality. This was opposite in being good sound from streaming. The Sugden / harbeth room sucked as well - dark sounding with little real musical detail. This miniature SME was pretty cool. I have no interest in headphones, but these Sony's piqued my interest The Lumin Vivid room was pretty good, however a lower treble sheen seems to irritate somewhat. The Estellon room sounded a lot better today compared to Friday This under 10K project table was providing the front end for the massive Avalon speakers - just goes to show you do not need a 30K plus table for superb sound.
metal beat
Best sound at the show? For me - The large Avalon system and the Albedo speaker based system. The Penaudio systems was best small speaker based system.

And how far back do you need to sit in order for the driver components to integrate, I understand the desire as Cessaro always take very large rooms at audio shows and generally don't provide seating so nearly always heard standing up, obviously not in this case however. Are they trying to place themselves as the new successor to the original western electric/ altec voice of the theatre or is this a crossover into high quality sound reinforcement audio? CESSARO VOICE OF THEATRE II HORN SPEAKERS The western electric/ altec look is very appealing to the Asian market.I ended up with 3X good listening sessions with the last one after talking with the music director was given the sweet spot 5 rows from the back aisle seat before the next group of people came in.In this seat you had the full stereo effect that only Horns can give. Effortless natural sound that would satisfy every seat in the room.I was interested in a audiophiles comment that with all the hype they were not over impressive ? That comes down to personal choice where the Horns will not sound like Top Line Wilson Audio Gryphon Fischer Fischer or Magico.Speaking of Magico Speakers they were my favorite sound from the HI-end group.

Thanks James. I had to choose my timew as after 11:30 am each day it was pretty hard to get many close shots. The large Steinheim speakers in the large Jadis room did nothing for me. Dry sounding and not very dynamic especially micro dynamics. Yvette sounded a lot better on the 3rd day., but behind the Albedo and Avalon speakers. Like many turntables in HK, they seemed to be more for show than playing. I never heard the Kronos playing. The styling leaves me cold to be honest - reminds of some nerdy meccano look. It was good to meet sna crew @Marc, @Stump, @rusty48, and catch up with @DEQX and @kramered Bought nothing audio oriented, but did invest in the HK economy by drinking and eating far too much, helped a lot by the sna crew Edited August 17, 2017 by metal beat 1
