Harte light from IKEA

Recommended Posts

I have just set up an IKEA Harte light for my TT and am very happy with the result @Hergest mentioned the light here some months ago.

I suspect it is marketed as a bed book light

it is constructed from a single tube a little thicker than a pencil with:

1 a triangular shape base

2 a 55cm vertical length that can be shaped to a wide variety of positions

3 the last 12cm  contain  a set of bright white led lights

4 the light is powered from a USB charger (not supplied ) or your computer

4.1 the light is very bright and shines forward making it easy to see TT tonearms and head shells

5 the cable has an on off switch about 30cm from the base

5.1 total cable length is approx  1.8 meters

6 comes in a variety of colours

7 cost $20

@jamesg11 saw it in position today he might care to comment

Did I? Well if I did I'm glad it agrees with you. As for myself, I don't remember, I must have been really drunk at the time. Either that or listening to Dark Side Of The Moon.

I've had one of these for around 2 years. They used to come with a USB power "wall wart" which was noisy. I replaced mine with an Apple charger

@djb

I had the same idea a few weeks ago when my daughter dragged me into IKEA and purchased a black in colour unit

I like the strip light design the best as other lights had spot a light

Just like you my application is for the turntable

I've mentioned more than once, as has@johna He was the one who brought up the noisy power supply.

Also mentioned it when The Martian came out as they had a few in the main building in the movie

A lovely light - a simple, effective, reliable, out-of-the-box, unobtrusive and elegant solution.

In fact it meets none of @djb's usual criteria.

Take hope, change is indeed possible.

In the ineluctable djb tt setup, there is a definite requirement for a clamp type arrangement to anchor the lamp base.

Suggestions?

Otherwise, buddyev's above positivity may well be dashed ... smote ...

with a return to arm flipping & cartridge crunching ....

What colour light does it (the one the OP mentioned) put out?   I don't like the bluish colour that lots of LED lights have.  In fact I don't like what used to be called "cool white" in fluoro tubes either, I like a warm white, more similar to incandescent bulbs.

Pity it can't take photos ! The light that is ... there's a new product opportunity for IKEA, the e-light it takes photos abd provides instant Facebook updates on what ever it might shine upon :D

ive been using a garden variety of the "Harte" it is white colour coordinated with my Rega TT :D

few have reported the "hash" it's psu injects ;)

Not a silly idea, actually, Al. i went to get my identity confirmed at the post office yesterday (don't ask — bureaucracy) and they used a scanner to copy and transmit my passport and drivers licence to the land titles office — it was configured like the the Harte and not much bigger.

@Hergest will be delighted to hear this I attributed your mention to him and he seemed confused claimed he had the DTs
