EXPIRED: Holton Zero Five Zero Introductory Offer!

Recommended Posts

I love the design of the 0-5-0, the use of only one transistor pair (so far I've loved every amp I have heard that used just one pair per channel, they just sound so light on their feet, very musically nimble) and the fact that what many people would call a small number of watts is backed up by a huge capacitor bank.  As many of us know, it isn't necessarily the number of watts that count but what you can back those watts up with.

Personally I'd love to see a Zero-Five-Zero (the 50wpc version with the 80,000uF option) with a volume control.  Would that be possible Anthony?

It wouldn't be a true integrated, with only one input, but it would be close enough for my purposes.

@Cafad If fact it would be very possible to just add a volume control to the 0-5-0 amp, it could be done externally in its own case or in a future updated release.

I will give this some more thought. :)

Anyone else like to chime in on possible features for a Holton Integrated Amplifier? :)

Hi Anthony.

Obviously, I am not Cafad but I would dearly love to see( and buy ) a Holton integrated. I reckon 100 WPC in a minimalist design would be great. Just 2 line inputs and a phono stage, with one set of speaker terminals and remote control of volume.

If this were to be available when my finances recover( sometime next year ),I would be an almost certain starter:) ( I really did regret needing to sell my 050 ):(

Edit: if it makes things more possible, I personally would be OK with not having a phono stage, since my other amp has a very good one

Hi @rantan

Thanks for the feedback mate, Sorry to hear also you had to pass on the 050 Amp to someone else, I hope things improve for you soon... :)

All of these suggestions are excellent and very possible.

Hi @Cafad

What kind of features, power output, etc would you like to see in a Holton Integrated amplifier?

If I may, 100 watts output, balanced in, 3 ish RCA in, remote, love the clean look so no display, just knobs, and maybe a little led dot on the volume so you know where it's at. All for $1995 would be ideal!

And if you could fit it all in to the chassis of the zero five zero, that would be a result!

Dear Anthony,

What a beauty. Stefan told me about a new bookshelf sised amp from Holton.

Is this special offer stil standing? Specialy the 100 watt 80.000µF edition?

In that case it has to make a long trip. I've to find out about customs etc.

Waiting for your respons.

With kind regards,

René

Also, out of curiosity, what pre-amp did you use while developing the zero five zero?

How about.....two balanced inputs, three RCA inputs, one fixed line output (for external headphone amp), at least 100w per channel at 8 ohms, doubling down into 4 ohms and again into 2 ohms, with usable output into really low impedences (< 1ohm) for those of us with electrostatics?

Hi @Cardiiiii

I used a Cambridge Audio DAC Magic Plus, its nice as it has balanced output's which suit the 050 amp very nicely.

Not the best DAC in the world in terms of sound quality but not bad either.

Hi @JukKluk2

Nice features for sure, and for the most part all possible. would make the 050 a lot more expensive however, perhaps a special edition version?

The integrated version case would need to be some what higher. Perhaps around 150mm, would look quite good I think. So it would measure 300m wide x 200mm deep and 150mm high. :)

You might be surprised, but the 050 amp 100 watt version is already very capable of driving ESLs. :)

Hi @Renoir

Thanks, I can supply you a 050 100 watt version, but sadly the 050 special is no longer available.

Send me a PM and we can talk some more. :)

Or 4-5 months! Just in time for Christmas!

I would also echo the suggestion of just one input, a high quality volume control - altho I personally would prefer a deeper case rather than extra height! (30x30?)

I'm keen too, but why wait for Christmas!

*As long as SWMBO doesn't find out. Perhaps optional front plates to match each SNAer's current amplification could be made......at extra cost of course. The plates could be listed as "camouflage" in the accessories menu.

      Hello everyone,
Good day can any one recommend a good budget power conditioner.

      Thank you.

Item: Plinius SA201 Stereo Power Amplifier
      Location: Canberra, ACT
      Price: $1200
      Item Condition: Used
Reason for selling: Have upgraded my power amplifier to mono blocks and need to save space, and keep the peace at home.
Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only
Extra Info: For sale is my well cared for Plinius SA201 stereo power amplifier in the silver finish. I have been the first owner since circa 2006. I can't see any noticeable scratches or marks, so the curvaceous casework has stood up well over time. But alas I have felt the need to upgrade after many years good service, and when the opportunity arose I purchased a pair of mono blocks.

This amp is rated at 225 watts per channel into 8 ohms. Both channels driven from 20Hz to 20kHz at less than 0.2% total harmonic distortion.
Current Output: 40A short duration per module. Fuse protected.
Hum and Noise: 90dB  below rated output 20Hz to 20kHz unweighted.
      Gain: 32dB.
      Input Impedance: 47k ohms
      Dimensions: Height 170mm, Width 445mm, Depth 453mm, Weight 25kg

Here's one review to give a general feel for the amp:
      https://www.dagogo.com/plinius-tautoro-preamplifier-sa-201-stereo-power-amplifier-review/

I've been using this amp with PS Audio products - the Directstream player, DAC and the BHK preamp.

You could describe the sounds as smooth and coherent. Spatial performance is excellent with an expansive soundstage. There is plenty of detail, presented in  natural fashion without being in your face.

I have the original Plinius double-box packaging for transportation. The amp weighs 25kg so local pickup is preferred.

Item: NAD C 275BEE Stereo Power Amplifier - does not include Integrated in picture, see my other sale
      Location: Williamstown VIC 3016
      Price: $600
      Item Condition: Perfect
Reason for selling: Looking at upgrading to NAD Master Series
Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only
Extra Info: This stereo amplifier is a proverbial iron fist in a velvet glove.

If you can never have enough power, match this brilliant power amp with the matching integrated, and switch them both to bridged mode, sit back and revel in the awesome scale and control that this amp has. This amp has performance that simply must be heard to be fully appreciated.

This integrated has lots of trickle down technology from the NAD Masters Series M3 Amplifier. These include application of Bjørn Erik Edvardsen’s Distortion Canceling Circuit in the output stage and BEE Clamp in the power supply, with distortion and noise reduced down to unprecedented levels.

The C275BEE is the same Power Amplifier circuitry as used in the C375BEE Integrated Stereo Amplifier and can be connected to form a truly prodigious combination. As a two-channel amplifier, the possibilities are numerous. Experience room-filling sound with impressive musical detail and transparency. The NAD C275BEE features a sophisticated design and beefy construction to bring out the best in all your music from the lowest, wall-shaking pedal notes of a pipe organ to the delicate reverberation of a solo acoustic guitar.

What HiFi loved this amp: "If you're looking for a powerful but subtle amplifier, then the NAD C275BEE power amp, paired with the matching C165BEE preamp does the trick"... "A likeable brute of an amplifier. For those who want plenty of sonic muscle without having to sacrifice subtlety too much.

      https://nadelectronics.com/product/c-275bee-stereo-power-amplifier/

This amp will drive just about any load down to 2ohm, and can hit 800w at 8ohm in bridged mode.

      2 x 150W Continuous Power into 4 Ohms and 8 Ohms
      250W, 410W, 600W IHF Dynamic power into 8, 4 and 2 Ohms, respectively
      PowerDrive™ circuit
      Holmgren Toroidal Power transformer
      All discrete circuitry
      Class A Voltage Stages
      Distortion Canceling Circuit
      BEE Anti-saturation Clamp
      Copper bus bars
Short signal path from input to output
      All sockets Gold-plated
      Soft Clipping™

This amp has run beautifully without a hitch, and works incredible well with the matching C 375BEE integrated that I'm selling - the power amp in the integrated is meant to be the same as this standalone power amp.

I have a box that I received the amp in, so it will be packed well, but I don't have the original packaging.

Having one last crack at moving this on. I think this is a great amp for the asking price.

I bought this power amplifier from the forums in 2017. Its main use is HT duties, as well as spinning 10 hours or so of vinyl each week. The amp has performed flawlessly and presents as warm and emotive, ie. the Exposure house sound. The amp is rated at 100w / channel into 8 Ohms, and has the capability to run as a mono amp, as well as the option to biwire.

Note: the amp only takes banana plugs.

Cosmetically, there are minor blemishes and some light scratches on the top of the unit.

I have the original box, and happy to post.
