Which model? How old? Any mods?

Wednesday listening.

Looks very cosy, bet you are enjoying that lovely full bodied sound.  Very classy collection.

This eve, dragged out the old Stats, just for their treble, mated so well with the mid and bass horns, very smitten 🥰 didn’t wanna stop listening.

Those look spectacular. Do you have a build thread I can’t find? What’s up with them?

Like your tower. Better than a tweeter - a full range. I don’t think tweeters reproduce the original music but more reproduce what the microphone heard.

My father’s system today...

IMG_1208.jpg

IMG_1205.jpg

IMG_1206.jpg

Sources are Cambridge Audio DVD player and Apple TV.
Processing is a Marantz SR6005 receiver.
This outputs main left/right to a custom made 2 box valve pre which was made in Tassie.
The speakers are 6.5’ hybrid ribbons/dual 6.5” mids . The woofers are 2 x dual 8” dipole transmission line enclosures.
Power amplification for the mains is DC battery powered with active cross overs. The Marantz powers the centre and rears (Aurum Cantus Leisure IISE).
A couple of spare Redgum power amps will be swapped in to power centre and rears shortly.
The centre and sub are garage sale specials. They’ll do for now.

The room is 12m x 5m and the system sounds absolutely fabulous.

You should be proud of your Dad, a lovely system, love dipole sound personally.

Nice large room to play with,  maybe one note, convince him to drag the speakers well off the back wall and am sure he will be much amazed.
Just came from members house and sorted his ESLs that way incl removal of unnessary resistors etc. my ribbons needed at least 1.2 m away from rear wall to sing.

Enjoy V

We’re definitely biased (or too far in to be the judge of these things), but I think the panels look neat!

I think they do as well. I would be happy to leave them up all the time but the missus has other ideas. 😞

I do indeed have a pair of those ... but at present I'm mulling over the sad need to downsize, and I'm thinking of saying goodbye to them - at present I'm listening to my pair of AudioNirvana Classic 10s in custom built transmission lines - and I'm liking what I'm hearing ...

I’m really more interested in the shoes but I’ll ask about the speakers. Tell me about them. DIY?

Originally I bought the Audio Nirvanas for OB use
... in open baffle they were remarkably clear and revealing, but with absolutely no bass - and the rising midrange that such "full range" drivers tend to have was very marked
... So I bunged them into smallish diy sealed boxes where they sounded very good indeed, but still needed separate bass ("sub") help.

I was going to diy a pair of transmission lines, but I decided it was beyond my diminishing capabilities
- so I contacted Alfred at Adelaide Speakers, talked it over, and he was happy to build the boxes for me.
I brought them home, bunged in the drivers, and am very pleased with the result
... they sound "Hi Fi", very "fast" and pretty.  I'm happy with them.

In the pic you'll see that they are on wheels - they are on little trolleys so I could move out the Altecs and move in the Ans - the wheels aren't necessarily a permanent feature - merely a mobility aid (purchased from my favourite HiFi and Art supply shop = Bunnings)

listening to some tunes with the room swung around the other way. Everything is not in it’s final position or cabled up.
