To ensure domestic harmony (an enjoyable and important part of this passion) most components have to be neatly out of sight. With the very great assistance of @hedalfa we re-cabled and reconfigured the system on Wednesday night.

My current system!         Recorded handheld on my iphone with inbuilt microphone...so take it with a big dose of salt.

What do you think of the DirectStream so far?

Very good but not as great a difference over my Mytek Brooklyn DAC+ than I thought it might be. I feel the Brooklyn DAC+ was more precise and maybe the DirectStream heads back towards a slightly more analogue sound.

I am now only using my Oppo BDP-105AU as a transport and I do believe the DirectStream brings out more in my CDs.

Morning Folks.

I've somehow tripped the protection mode in the Denon, blowing the fuse in the Energy 10.2 sub.  I'm not sure what happened, it was late on Friday night, under herbal influence, and I wasn't paying close attention.

Both auto electricians in town were closed for Easter...  and WW is not the easiest place to obtain most things, on the spot.  So, I've ordered a few of the fuses required from ebay.

I was enjoying the JBL 2 ways & Energy sub...  and intended on keeping that set up for a couple of weeks, at least.

I've now switched to the Mission 782's...  a smaller 3 way, floorstander, with side firing bass.

These are impressive speakers, very musical and sound wonderful with Vocals & Jazz.

Make sure you try them with the woofers facing to centre.

Thanks Winno.

When I first picked them up I did have them facing inwards...  but, it wasn't for long, and the room was full of speakers.  I've changed them for this set up and they have a lot more room to breathe.

I'm not sure if there's a recommended direction for them...  and I will change back in a few days for comparison.

Cheers mate.

Yep definitely.
My Audio Physic’s have side firing woofers and the bass depth and imaging is a lot better when facing in.

That’s what I found with the 782s as well. The shop I used to work at used to demo them woofers out until I showed them what woofers in could do.

Nice speakers.
As Steve/Winno says they work best with the side firing woofers on the inner side.
I've got a pair of Mission 766 with the same feature. Definitely better results with the woofers on the inside. I think the manual even says so.

Thanks guys.

I've been swapping gear in and out for a few months, and recently decided to remove all other speakers from the room ( well, most of them ), and settle on different combinations for a couple of weeks, at least, to get a better idea of each set up...  also, to be able to give some more input on this wonderful forum.

After reading the last few posts, I'm sure the Missions will be firing inwards again, early tomorrow morning.

Regards.

Ant.

How are you finding those M9ED speakers? There doesn’t seem to be a lot of information about them.

yes, quite rare and far between.

but they do get congregated in a bunch in some places

that was the sacd authoring centre, previously based in colorado, before they shift into the same facilities that houses Paul McGowan's PS Audio. Only in my dreams - to be able to tear down all the walls in my apartment to have a room as large as this to allow my 3 pairs of Sony SS-M9EDs to be setup in a full-fledge 5.1 multi-channel configuration.

but my living room only can accommodate 2 pairs. (the other pair is in the bedroom shown in the previous post)

Herbie Hancock also owns 5 pcs of these sony pryramids...

Paul McGowan recently posted some of his videos with these speakers in the frame

after his recent success with the sonoma (Warwick) model one and aperio headphones, Dan Anagnos is working on the true follow up to the SS-M9ED, which will be a passive, fully time-aligned design.

I have only just put it down on the floor tonight, but I think so - only played a few tracks so far -

not sure what I should be looking for?

Maybe the bass is a little tighter? and vocals not bouncing around so much maybe?

Only played about 5 tracks so far, so not really sure............

I would argue it should be made from natural fibre.

Doesn't matter an improvement on having nothing ..............and a bargain at $70 - so was worth taking a chance on without a big investment. Have been looking for weeks and this fit the bill for now.

Have made a few changes since I last posted. The Luxman arrived today so just getting acclimatized. Will need to work on a less invasive stand as ever since I added the subs it's a bit crowded on that side of the room. Sounds good though.

Busy week. This is my first time in weeks i can crank up the tunes when no one is home.

Notorious B.I.G playing today. East coast hip hop cranked up loud enough to annoy the neighbours.

Just swapped the Copland CSA29 out and B1k / ACA pre power in to my main system.

Just 8 watts of class A, plenty to drive the Lenehan LK1 speakers, sounding quite nice.

It was just to try it out, will be re arranging cables as soon as I can even think of turning it off.
