Only thing I noted is that the spindle seemed to move out from the motor drive so will do some adjusting of the bearing holder height to see if I can stop this.

@tesla13BMW - giving this further thought, be sure that the shaft is level, by adjusting bearing plate height.

Or even have the bearing end a touch higher.

Hi Owen

I was going to do some adjusting but found the motor alternated its direction of rotation with each turn on / off cycle.  So if I have it rotating clockwise when looking from the bearing side it is naturally pushing back toward the motor.  I've had no further issue.

Cheers, Chris.

This looks like a good place in Aus to purchase Triton x-100 LR, $45.00 for 500ml http://www.ssapl.com.au/product-group/2969/category/392 still very expensive. Waiting to hear back from these guys that Owen uses Triton X 100, $49.85 for 1 L, http://www.conservationsupplies.co.nz/product/triton-x100-cle01/ regarding postage to Australia, will keep you all updated :thumb:

Total cost for 1L Triton X including postage to Aus. is  NZ $64.65 so it`s great value and Jeanette was excellent to deal with I hope this helps   :love

Does anyone have a suggestion for a filter that will attach to the tap on the ultrasonic tank everyones using?

Doesn't need to pump, just something simple for draining the cleaning solution back into the bottle after use.

Thanks in advance!

coffee filter paper in a funnel should work a treat :thumb:

Ha I was thinking that! are the coffee filters fine enough to filter everything out though?

maybe something like this https://www.bunnings.com.au/stefani-chrome-on-tap-water-purifying-system_p5091498

Not sure it'd fit, or that there'd be enough pressure to force the water through though.. comes out at a dribble..

Not sure on the actual specific particle size that they will trap, but very finely ground espresso grounds are mighty fine, and they seem to trap those. Could always double or triple the layers of paper.

Either way, it would be a pretty cheep and simple exercise to test it.  It will however be a slow process, as the fluid would only drip thru.

I really wouldn't bother with filtering after use. Just discard and replace. Unless using an alcohol component, the cost of the water and surfactant really is minimal, considering the amount of lps cleaned per batch.

I do see a possible benefit from filtering during use but not convinced yet.

A bit more info:

Fluid mix:

For starters, I'm using a water + Triton X-100 detergent/surfactant concentrate.  (I haven't checked if this is avail downunder, mine came from USA via a pal).

Drying:

So far, in our low 20's C summer weather, using a water + detergent/surfactant mix, then air-drying is fast. (20-30 min?)

Plain water doesn't film over the vinyl & takes much longer to dry. .I have a vacuum RCM but have not bothered using it for drying after US cleaning.

Right now, I'm using just carbon-filtered (drinking) water.

Static:

Vinyl is a poor conductor but water is a good conductor, so simply rinsing will reduce static. Wiping a record, is not such a good thing, if you want to avoid static-electricity.  And I believe that it is good to use a non-ionic, neutral pH detergent for starters, to avoid residual static charge.

(There is also a theory that a thin residual film of detergent left on the vinyl, after cleaning, aids groove tracing - I have to say it certainly sounds that way, signif more dynamic range, more energy..... )

I've been doing 15 minutes too, i use 40º and upwards though. A few records that were in a poor condition have improved with a 30 minute session.

Hi @scuzzii - because of partial immersion & rotation, I consider 15 mins an absolute minimum.

(See my May 4 post.)

If you've got patience, give it 20 mins or even more.

Drying - The surfactant means rapid air drying. But vacuum drying is excellent, if you have a conventional RCM to hand (with clean nozzle/brushes of course). I will experiment with a water rinse beforehand too - I'm not paranoid about water purity, regular carbon-filtered drinking water works fine for me.

Your comments & feedback welcome.

US clean followed by RCM with Melody Mate heavily diluted for the US cleaner then a small amount on the Nitty Gritty RCM trough and the results are excellent....

temp set at 35oC but does jump up when the US cleaner is in operation though..

Triton X-100:

That's the best price so far, over Oz way.

Hopefully importing is hassle-free, it's only detergent ;)
